Favorite sport / physical activity?

Postby JediSonic » Wed Oct 29, 2003 1:46 pm

I haven't done a lot of sports in the last year (except for Tai-Kwon-Do which I don't do anymore) but last month I bought myself a skateboard with ABEC 5 bearings brand new for $25!!

I just got home from the skatepark, where I had a real blast! I asked this guy what the most important thing was when doing a "drop in", which is where you stand on the back end of your board with wheels over the edge of a slope (in this case like 5 feet higher than the ground), and then lean forward and balance yourself out as you go in at Xtreme speeds! He then went on to offer me lots of advice, demonstrate it, and most importantly, forced me to try until I got it! After I messed it up like 5 times (it's hard because you start off with your board mostly vertical going down and have to banlance it out as the curve levels out), we went to the 2-foot tall drop in, and I made it, so then we did the 3 1/2 footer, and I made so then we went back to the first one and I did it and it was SWEET!

So anyway, I just thought I'd ask how many of you guys like sports, and what are you favorite ones, and how many are true, 100% computer nerds like I'm going to be this winter? (until the skatepark thaws out  )

To play? I love soccer, though I rarely if ever get the chance to play it. I like to run, I like biking and hiking. I used to be a swimmer, but I don't do that anymore, except for fun. I'll play most sports--I like basketball, football, and volleyball. I don't play baseball or softball, though.

Sure I like sports. Hmmm. It's soccer. Good sport it is. I would play volleyball; I used to play Baseball, but I quit a few years back.

I walk every morning 3 miles 6 days out of the week. I don't do it on Sunday mornings (too hectic). Now if they would only come out with a 3 mile brisker at the Summer Olympic Games.

I LOVE soccer! In high school, I played center half, only the most fun position on the field! My second sports passion is basketball. I played center and forward. *sniffs* I also used to run track, and I played softball for a few years. Right now I'm doing karate/kickboxing. If it counts, I've also been doing a lot of DDR lately.

I like weight lifting also. I don't usually have time (or membership) to make it over to the gym, but me and my friends have weights. I bench 135, not much, but I'm not exactly built for benching, lol. Among other things, hockey, snowboarding, break dancing is great fun :thumb: and that's about all the physical activity I do.

Oooh, I used to skate - Jedisonic, what kinda board is it? That was a REALLY good price, btw. I payed $100 for my setup. I had the most awesome deck - a Bam Margera Element (The purple one) It lasted FOREVER, too. Elements rock. They're nice and light, which is good for ramps.
WTG, Jedisonic - skating is the best. Have you learned to ollie yet?

No, i haven't learned to ollie yet! It's so hard! I swear, I look at people at the skatepark who have been doing this for years and it's like the have jet engines shooting out the bottoms of their boards! Well, I've done all the research and advice getting possible, or so it would seem; I guess I'll get it eventually. When ever it gets depressing that I can't do it, I just think about the fact that all the kids in my neighborhood took a year to learn it

As for my board, it's just a "Kryptonics: logo series", nothing special but I figure if I was to grease those ABEC 5 bearings, I could probably get some pretty wacked out speed  Yeah, it was an awesome price; I spent over 2 hours shopping to find the best deal on something that wouldn't considered a sluggish kiddie board (have you SEEN the spongebob ones??:forehead: ) Yes, it definitely helps to live in the largest city in the state, when shopping!

Yeah - don't worry if you can't ollie yet. It took me three or four months. It's the hardest trick to get, anyway - at least for me.
Kryptonics aren't bad - wayyyy better than world industries. Lol, of course in MY opinion, the spongebob one would be better than a world industries.
Oooh, yeah, you're gonna get some speed with those... I just got luckys, cuz I blew all my money on the deck! ^_^
Lol, you have alot of skate shops in Omaha?! I guess you're probably one up on me - I live in rural Georgia. I had to drive for an hour and a half to get to my nearest skateshop. We didn't have a skatepark, either. I had to do street. It still rocked, though

No, I actually got the board at "Sports Authority". I didn't know Kryptonics was a serious skateboard company, I figured if I was gettin it for $25, it must have been a spin-off brand. lol Those skateshops charge waaayyy too much to have a celebrity or popular company's name on your deck..

Actually, I'm not in much mood for typing right now; my finger hurts. I was going down a hill topspeed about 20 minutes ago when the board hit some rough pavement and went out from under me. So I did the closest thing I've ever done to a cartwheel, but I kinda crushed the side of my left hand against the pavement so my little finger still hurts a bit. :shady:
