I've heard of the game and I've seen it played. I don't get it either but it's somewhat fun to watch. Maybe people just like the weirdness of it. It's not quite the typical "hero" game since you're are playing as a character who's father got angry, destroyed the stars in the sky and left you to fix the problem. Plus, maybe people find it fun to see how much junk in the landscape that they can roll into a ball.

I think it's so popular due to the sheer psychotic strangeness of it. My brother beat the game a while back and I have to admit that it was pretty fun to watch him on the final level. I mean, you start out smaller than a mouse and at the end your picking up entire Islands! I'm not too interested in playing it but it can be pretty sweet at times.

I haven't played it but the art style and soundtrack are gold.
Evidently, it's not for everyone.

It really is one of those games you're either going to love or hate. I thought the soundtrack was the best part of the game. YOU ARE SMART is one of the greatest songs ever.

For me, it's just the fun of rolling up random things into a ball. I remember on level 3, I got angry at the cats because they'd always run into me and make me drop stuff...but it was so awesome when the ball got big enough that I got to run over the cats! Running over people is fun too...and yes, in the last level, you're about as big as a pineapple when you start...but at the end, you can roll up skyscrapers and entire islands.

The storyline is lacking, obviously, but what do you expect? It's one of those games that doesn't need much story, it's mindless fun.

For the record, I had no clue you didn't like Katamari Damacy in the other thread. I merely mentioned it because it is a $20 that (to me) was very much worth buying.

It's easily a classic game that oozes replay value, if nothing else. It's simply fun rolling up randomness into a ball.

Hmm... I played a demo, but that probably doesn't do the game justice. I'll buy the game some time, if I manage to find it.

Yep, it should be that cheap to get the sequel, too. I think the sequel's title is "I Love Katamari," and it will feature multiplayer. I can't wait for more!

probably GameStop or EBGames. I saw it in our EBGames just the other day and it's only like 20 dollars.

My friend got it for 14 dollars. It has PS1 graphics or worse. At least its fun though.

From what I've heard, only 1-5% of all KD players actually come out not liking it. And when I say KD player, I mean people who actually finished more than one level and not just sit there and watch other people play it. (I personally think an accurate review can't be given unless the reviewer actually finished the game at least once)

And though I have a thing for uber weird/stupid stuff, I'm mainly a FPS and survival horror gamer--but I love KD to death and will be eagerly waiting the sequel.

Oh, it did, didn't it? I never played 2P, so when the game sites kept heralding the new multiplayer, I was like, okay, that's nice. I still plan to play it single-player, so that aspect doesn't even matter to me.

Yeah, the graphics blocky, but they're supposed to be. And frankly, I like it. It has style, and is not like any other game I've ever seen. Very fun, but a little short. The controls seem frustratingly bad at first, but they work if you stick with it.

One of the nice things about this game is that, if you have young children, you can play it around them. Of course, they'll probably end up playing it too, but it didn't have any majorly "inappropriate" parts that I could see.

Ahahaha! I haven't played this yet, but I'll probably buy it. Like many have said, it's the plain freaky weirdness of it that makes it appealing! I love wierd things like this.

Two words: It's addictive

NO matter how stupid it sounds, one can't help but want to roll more people and things and get bigger along with the music...
Maybe it has some other message that some are above in wavelength

Stupidity is addictive. Sounds like today`s television. Well, after I finish up all the games I`m borrowing from him, I`m gonna borrow KD from my friend and not look at it from the same perspective I saw it as before.
