Wow, that's a very pretty picture, Mave! :jump:

I'm sorry you're feeling so despairing, anxious, fearful and generally angstsy. :( I know He will comfort you. Hey, look down at the verse in my sig! V

You are always in my prayers.

If you like, let's play some Literati. XDDDDD

Anyways, great little pic and I love how the darkness, the depression, and the angst came through. It's very well done. May I ask, who are those two characters? Man, you killed off another character - didn't you? :shady:

;)

YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Yeah I'm glad you guys like the angsty pic! Chloe, I haven't really decided on the character designs but most of the guys will be named after angels in the Bible. <.< >.>;;; The guy in the picture will carry the name Michael or Mik for short. That's about all I'm going to say, apart from that fact that no, I didn't kill any main characters in this one. It's far better to torture them instead, thus the angsty and dark theme. >X3333333

Speaking of angst, I've been seriously swamped with the writing of my thesis and papers. Everytime I work on my thesis, it gives me a headache. T__T

There wasn't an exception tonight either and I'm going to stay up all night to write the rough draft of my thesis. But before I worked on that, I decided to clear my mind by drawing first. A minor update, once again...it's just one pic. I wanted to experiment with some paintbrushing styles that I've seen other artists do, which involves much blending and shading. It didn't turn out the way I was hoping it would but it's a decent attempt at least. I can't link you guys to the artist I'm trying to imitate since she does a bit of shonen-ai. :eh:

Anyway, do let me know if you like this type of line art coloring or not. I wish I could find a decent tutorial on this method of coloring instead of having to learn from scratch!

Argh....my head hurts! >_<;;;

I did think of Aya when I first saw the thumbnail… He looks great, though! (Better than Aya, who is a little irritating. XD) The coloring looks really nice, too, whatever you’re complaining about. ^_~

Ooh, and that angsty pic is really beautiful too. I love the gray-scale contrasts—very effective and lovely. :thumb: Great work as always!

Mave! What I liked about that picture was the lips and shading. The colouring is just so detailed than before. (but I like both styles.)

I just finally got PhotoShop, and... it's hard. So I admire you like that too.

Real life (?) Hyde portrait

Postby Mave » Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:00 am

Oh wow...I haven't posted for quite a while.

Thanks everyone! *bows profusely to everyone*

(~>o<)~ Please accept my latest offering: My first attempt at drawing my favourite Jrocker, Hyde of Laruku.

It took me 2-3 hours to complete it and I used the photo next to it as the reference. I dulled the upper lip of the original scan since Kei-chan told me it would help Hyde not to look so old in this piece. But he still looks darn OLD to me. I don't feel satisfied! =(>_<)= Dangit! I guess it'll have to come with practice. Poor Hyde.... but you do kinda naturally have panda eyes.

Oo, cool!

I think that you totally nailed the facial expression. And the hand looks really good, I wouldn't guess it was rushed. And last but not least, I absolutely love the hair, it's so wispy and real looking ^_^

Well, I haven't visited your thread even longer than you, Mave. :sweat: I can't believe I didn't comment on the pic prior to the Hyde piccy. *hehe* It was very good. I thought it was Kim when I first saw it. ^__^;;

I just have to say :wow!: wow... :wow!: wow...

I think you captured Hyde's age quite well. He is older, isn't he? I mean, in the photo he has gray hair. Or, am I just seeing things? :P

Anyway, great job mi compadre! :thumb:

Yes the Hyde picture was really good. I don't think you made him look to old at all. It had some very nice shading also.

Have you tried drawing people from real life? Drawing from pictures is good but you learn the most when you draw from life.

Sketches of a lazy but enthusiatic artist

Postby Mave » Sun Jun 19, 2005 5:31 pm

Response to That Dude: I rarely draw ppl from real life and only refer to photos. If I want to do well in real-life sketches, I'll definitely have to practise what you recommend. *nods nods*

*****************************************

Wahahahahaha I'm BACK!!!

After slaving and sweating over grad school for the last two months, I'm almost free! Well, free enough to draw stuff without feeling guilty about my thesis or any form of work. Yes, today marks one of the best days I've had this year.

However, yours truly was lazy at the same time. teehee All I could do was rough sketches. I wasn't really in the mood to color anything so..........eh yeah pls pardon my mess. XDDDD

The first 2 sketches are motion-oriented and I was experimenting with body angles.

Pic #1) There is no logic where the lady wears high heels while jumping in mid-air. Oh whatever.

Pic #2) I guess the second one is a ninja doing some gymnastic move on a err...whatdoyoucallit horse-gym thingy (?). XDD

Considering that we can only have 3 attachments per post.......

Pic #3) I blame it on Lacus Clyne (Gundam Seed). Have I ever mentioned how cute and adorable she is? (<--- Mave rarely find any bishoujos cute enough worth mentioning) I just had to do the kawaii big-eyes smiling celebrity pose. ^__^;

Pic #4) Hmm....strange one. I usually like to draw characters accompanied by animals. My typical choices are dolphins and horses (since they're easy to draw for me). Well, I thought...why not draw an animal that instills fear? I love spiders. I don't scream and run when I see one. I generally look at them, talk to them and move them out of the way gently if their current position bugs me. I think they're very pretty and fascinating creatures. Hmm....I think I can say the same for the snake. Anyway, the guy was meant to look somewhat eerie. I suppose he's good friends with the huge spider? hehehe

Pls feel free to post constructive criticisms (well except for the fact that they're meant to be messy sketches  )

Question for everyone: If I were to pick one of the four sketches to color, which one should I do?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
   MAVE IS BACK!! YAAAAAAY

Those pictures look absolutely great Mave! I have no problems with them (except maybe for the last... I dont like spiders ;) ) Anyway, if I had to choose one to colour it would be either the first or third one (the girls). THey look very energetic, and it seems that bright circus-like colours would be a good choice; or for the third one perhaps more pale and dream-like. :thumb:

I would like to see the spider one colored. I hate spiders, but that one is done so creepy and well, I'd like to see it colored. Plus, the guy is definitely a bishie-type.

Mave, are you in a circus mood?

Anyway, these are great for little "messy" sketches. Great as always! :thumb:

Real spiders frighten me, but for some reason, I really love that sketch with the spider in it. I definitely want to see if it you color it! That would be my choice. ;)

Whoa, it's cool to see the stuff you don't post on deviantART. I especially like those gothic pictures a few pages back; the girls' faces are so pretty! Keep up the great work. ^__^

BTW, Mave, have you ever thought of experimenting with a more painterly/realism coloring style? I think with your mastery of anatomy and perspective it would have a really cool effect. I still love your cel-style, though!
