an interesting anime theory...

I've been thinking...
about some of my favorite animes inspirations.
I noticed something when I watched t.v. land.
the "ordinary guy meets beautiful girl which later reveals her power" anime genre comes from some classics like bewitched and I dream of geanie. so I came to terms that this genre is inspired by american entertainment.

your cut on this guys...

oh and I almost forgot to mention that a topic similar to mine at animerica magazine, they have an article about the history of shoujo.

I don't know that that's an american thing. I mean, didn't Shakespeare have a couple of plays with the same theme? and he was way before America.

I don't know - I once read about how there are really only 7 or 8 different stories, or major plot lines - and endless variations on those. And if you think about it, it's true. Take away all the details, and you have the same few stories over and over again. It was an interesting article...
Not many people know this, but I happen to be famous.

Where would "Serial Experiments Lain" fall into that? Especially since none of the fans can agree what it's actually about...

Tenchi Muyo was inspired slightly by I Dream of Jeanie, that's the only anime I've ever heard of that's inspired by American TV.
