Silent Hill Japan is Different?

Just got my import copy of SH1.... and I'm surprised to find that they apparently changed some stuff around in the US version..... Most notable is that the knife-wielding demons are non-existent. They are replaced by some much more menacing slightly larger creatures who have tons of razor sharp claws extending from their arms. I'm really interested now to see what other changes have been made.... *goes back to playing*

If I recall correctly, I heard for Silent Hill 2 the bosses were toned down a bit for the American version. Offensive material or something. I'm not sure. Anyways, I guess the same happened to the original.

Yeah, it's interesting all right. Those monsters seem to be the only ones changed so far... I've yet to tackle the hospital, I'll do that later tonight. So far those monsters are the only ones changed..... even their grunts are completely different. I've also noticed points where monsters may have been in different locations than the US. The alleyway in the opening scene might have been bloodier than the US, but I don't really feel like digging out and hooking up my US hardware/game to check at the moment.

I like the new monster type much better than the US one though.... they are more menacing; I'm not really sure what compelled the change in the US version though.

In the US version they edited the opening intro to the original RE, and the RE2 for gamecube has the Licker Scene GONE... That's just wrong, as gamers we must Riot.

The scene where the licker falls from the ceiling is a MUST.


When I switch my copy of Biohazard 2 to US Version mode, the game is actually slightly harder. Zombies are placed in more inconvenient spots where you have to shoot them where you could originally just dodge them.

Yeah there's a report in PSM that American Versions of Japanese games are WAY harder.

Easy mode has been taken out in Resident Evil Games, DevilMayCry games, and many many more. It is thoguht that the japanese think Americans like hard games?


From what I notice, many of the games from the Famicom till the Playstation era, games were often changed in America to be easier. Examples: the real Super Mario 2 never originally made it to America until it's debut on the Super Nintendo as 'The Lost Levels'. The EASYTYPE version of FF4 was released in America instead of the original. Actraiser was a lot harder and the level designs were completely different..... ect.

However, I'm noticing everything from the Playstation era on on to be a mixed bag. Games are now either made easier in America or harder in Japan. There are quite a few changes as well. *btw the knife monsters DID finally make an appearance in SH1... but they were only the invisible versions found at the very end of the game*

EDIT: In Biohazard 2, the US version is the game's Arrange Mode, and it's apparently supposed to be the hardest mode in the game.

the PC version of Resident Evil 1 is has the uncut version of the intro, and is also supposed to have more blood during the game. I've never played the playstation version though so I don't know if it;s really true.
