Cookies

Postby CobaltAngel » Mon Feb 23, 2004 12:18 pm

hehe, I got this in an e-mail, thought it was cute...

[font=Arial][size=84]> The woman arrived
> At an airport one night
> With several long hours
> Before her flight.

> She hunted for a book
> In the airport shop,
> Bought a bag of cookies
> And found a place to drop.

> She was engrossed in her book
> But happened to see,
> That the man sitting beside her,
> As bold as could be,
> Grabbed a cookie or two
> >From the bag in between,
> Which she tried to ignore
> To avoid a scene.

> So she munched the cookies
> And watched the clock,
> As the gutsy cookie thief
> Diminished her stock.

> She was getting more irritated
> As the minutes ticked by,
> Thinking, "If I wasn't so nice,
> I would blacken his eye."

> With each cookie she took,
> He took one too,
> When only one was left,
> She wondered what he would do.

> With a smile on his face
> And a nervous laugh,
> He took the last cookie
> And broke it in half.

> He offered her half,
> As he ate the other,
> She snatched it from him
> And thought... ooh, brother!

> This guy has some nerve
> And he's also rude,
> Why he didn't even show
> Any gratitude!

> She had never known
> When she had been so galled,
> And sighed with relief
> When her flight was called.

> She gathered her belongings
> And headed to the gate,
> Refusing to look back
> At the thieving ingrate.

> She boarded the plane,
> And sank in her seat,
> Then she sought her book,
> Which was almost complete.

> As she reached in her baggage,
> She gasped with surprise,
> There was her bag of cookies,
> In front of her eyes.

> If mine are here,
> She moaned in despair,
> The others were his,
> And he tried to share.

> Too late to apologize,
> She realized with grief,
> That she was the rude one,
> The ingrate, the thief!

thats funny and cute. I've had that happen to me, a littl ebit different though. For some odd reason, I pictured the guy looking like Spike from Cowboy Bebop.

wait, she ate the cookies too, which wasn't hers?

Yeah, I also thought there would be some religious significance to the story, but it is good despite that.

Did I say there was no religious significance to the story? What I meant was, "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things" (Romans 2:1).

The story is a nice illustration of that principle. :)

Douglas Adams used this in So Long and Thanks for all the Fish. Be interesting to see which came first.

Funny thing is-- for a second, I expected that too.

I saw the end coming, but it was cute anyways. *awwwww*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I had heard this story before, but not as a poem. That's really cute, and it's a lot more fun to read.

Thanks, Coby.

Like the majority of you, I thouhg taht it would be Jesus as well. When I got to te end i remembered that I heard it before, and I think it was in So Long and Thanks for all the fish.

I read it in one of Douglas Adam's books too, which has me wondering if it really happened to him. Eh, regardless, it's a funny story ^_^
