fund raiser
I attend a very small church (I think we have about 200 members tops) and this summer we are sending a team of 25 people down to the Dominican Republic to build homes for handicapped kids. Osaka and I will be part of that team. Well, this Saturday we're having a big rummage sale at our church where we'll be doing all kinds of stuff- we have a professional massage therapist who will be doing massages for $1.00 a minute, we'll be doing glamour shots for little kids, face painting, bake sale, pretty much the works. Please pray that we will raise a lot of money through this effort. It basically breaks down to the fact that we need to raise $1,000 each ($25,000 total) and that's a lot of money for such a small church to come up with. So please pray that this rummage sale will be a success!

Um, about membership-- I'd say we have a hundred members tops. Maybe one hundred and twenty five on Christmas and Easter.
But anyways, we would really appreciate all prayer for this event. Many on the members on the team will only have the money if God provides in miraculously. This may be one of those opportunities for him to provide.

Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.
Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.
But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. I'll pray that God blesses your fundraiser and the church's trip.
Oh, and even at 100 members, that's not a small church compared to what I'm used to. In my region (mountains of Virginia), churches are extremely small for the most part. My church has around 50 members, and we fill up the sanctuary pretty regularly. Unfortunately, that also means that we have no real youth group, so I've missed out on a lot of church activities that other youngsters have had. Like this fundraiser... sounds like fun.

Update: To anybody anybody who prayed about this, thanx a lot! We raised roughly $2,000, which is pretty good considering the quality and quantity of what we had to sell (I thought it was just a load of junk, but apparently the saying holds true-- one man's trash is another man's treasure!)
