Court Date

Postby Yumie » Mon Apr 18, 2005 11:10 am

About two years ago, one of the college guys from my church-- I'm not sure I should use his name, so I'll call him "Bob"-- was attacked outside a cafe in a downtown area where a live. Some guys from a club up the street saw him, mistook his shaggy hair and gangly body to mean that he must be gay, and beat him severely for no other reason. As this was happening, two men from inside a home decor store next to the cafe saw the attack and ran outside, scaring the five men away. They then ran into the cafe where the friends of "Bob" were and shouted frantically that a guy outside had just been beaten up (the people in the cafe could not see what was going on outside because of he glare of the lights on the windows.) The friends ran outside just in time to see the liscence plate number as the guys drove away, and the 5 guys who attacked him were tracked down and arrested. By God's grace "Bob" recovered after a long period of hospitilization, and is back to normal life. However, today, two years later, they are having one of the first court trials. If you will, please pray that justice will come about through all of this. And pray that God will give the family and "Bob" peace as they are at court with the men. Honestly there was quite a period of time when no one was sure that "Bob" was going to survive, and it was a really hard experience for his family, friends, and the girl who is now his fiancee. Pray that they will trust God for whatever the outcome may be and that they will be able to forgive these guys for what they've done. Thanks ever so much!! :thumb:

Yeow! *Cringes in pain and anger* That is so heartless, beating someone almost to death because of an assumption that the person is gay or what have you. Thank God he's all right. I'll be praying that the trial is a fair one. Keep us informed.

Sorry to hear that happened. I will surely keep "bob" in my prayers and hope that justice is done. Let us know what happens.

Such ridiculous actions. I will definitely pray for your friend and for his attackers, that they may get their lives straight and find God's salvation.

I will pray for your friend. That is such a sad story. I hope that justice is served in the courts and that the judge is a righteous man who will not let such actions go unpunished. Even if this does not happen, I pray that God's will be done in this situation...for if they do not repent, God will repay them twofold for what they have done to His child.

Its a shame. Even if he was gay, it is not right to hurt or kill someone. Period! I may be aginst homosexuality, but killing or beating is just a big a sin! I'll pray for your friend and for the people who hurt him.
Praise the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might, for that is what we were created for.

Thanks guys. Mom is going to call his mom tonight hopefully to find out how it went yesterday. She meant to call yesterday night but had a women's Bible study at our house and got distracted. Please continue to pray for the jury and the judge as they make their decision. (I'm not sure if they are at a decision-making point yet or not, but everything they hear will weigh in in one way or another. So please pray for every step along the way!)

So mom called his mom today and this is how things went.

They showed up in court and only one of the three guys who actually attacked him showed up. One has been arrested on other charges or something and the other one told his attorney he just didn't want to come. For that guy, the judge basically said he'd better show up in the next couple of days or he WILL be arrested. Now, back to the first guy. Well, he pleaded guilty and requested parole. The judge asked him if he had anything he'd like to say to "Bob" and Bob's family, and he was like, "I didn't know what I was doing, I was just so drunk." Sure, so the guy is fully capable of thinking "Bob" was gay (which he admitted to himself), getting in some good punches, and heck, he was able to aim his foot pretty well at "Bob's" head when he was down (he was repeatedly kicked in the head)-- but no, all that was just him being drunk. I mean, Bob is a decently buff guy, and if he was just attacked by three staggering drunks he would have done quite well for himself, so the stories just aren't adding up. And parole would be so unjust, "Bob" had to give up a year of normal life not being able to drive and having to drop out of school, not to mention tens of thousands of dollars on rehab and medical bills, and this guy basically wants to walk free on the basis that he was drunk. That's just not right. Anyways, his sentence will be announced on May 25, so if you all could just pray for justice untill then, I would really appreciate it!!
