I thought that was one of the more interesting endings, in that what you did in the game actually effected all of history. But I have a question: what are the twelve endings? Are we counting the many variations on the basic ending as different?

I`m stuck on the robot factory. I`ve had the game for almost a week for the PS1 but I`m hooked to Star Ocean 3 which is an RPG with a battle system where you run around and slash your sword as you please and its not turn-based,although you have more freedom in Kingdom Hearts, but Star Ocean 3 is better (my opinion).

I`ve yet to play Chrono Cross. I heard its worse than the original. I still wanna play it.

what is good about a team of ayla chrono and robo? Just curious, i never used that formation

I usually always use a formation of Chrono Ayla and Frog, Ayla and Frog to use slurp kiss, and at times they can all use the delta attack, which is many times woppin 3000+ damage

Robo can heal by himself, without another character. That leaves Ayla to do physical attacks or Techs (which can do quite a bit of damage), and Crono will use the Rainbow or Luminaire. Also, if you don't need healing, Robo is capable of dealing considerable damage on his own.

I own Chrono Cross and I believe that it is a really good game. I think it has about 40 playable characters and no matter who is on your team they have been scripted into about every major scene in the game.

Not to mention the replay goodies are great fun. :cool:

No, Chrono trigger is a really good RPG. The bad graphics just ruin the whole feel to the game. The whole feel that you guys are praising because when you first played it those were good graphics (Not all of you)

I really think that people place too much value on graphics. So what if it's not "realistic"? Games just aren't typically realistic anyways. I mean, look at final fantasy VII: Advent Children. The Graphics in that film look amazing so far, but can you honestly call something that has a character who wields a sword that would weigh more than he does "realistic"? :rant:


Soory, this is one of those things that I really think is ruining the gaming industry as a whole, and driving up costs. The more graphically intense a game gets, the more time, and therefore, more money has to be spent on this aspect of the game, with less on gameplay, storyline and length. This is why new games just typically don't reach the same greatness of thier predisesors.

/sigh

at some point, the industry is going to have to come to a desicion: hyper realism, or cost effective fun to play games.

I think they should leave the graphics the way thay are now and stop trying to make them better. FF10 is fine, heck even i`d stay with FF8. I think they should stop trying to improve them now, but i`d like Crono Trigger with PS2 graphics alot better no offence.

I remember when we used to play for hours on a single screen game and think we were lucky, and we WERE. Yep, three lives and no continues, that's how it was! Heck, you were privileged if you had four colors in your character sprites!

Tell me about it! Why, back in the good old days, it took well over two hours or more of doing nothing but leveling up battling endless slimes just to be able to buy a stinking sword. And these young whipper-snappers are so spoiled, they think they are better than everyone else just because modern RPG's and other games spoil them to the brim. Where are the GOOD old days when you need them?

Let me just whip out my copy of the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES, and while i'm at it, see if I can actually beat Duck Tales and Low G-Man without losing a single life again...
Azier thinks he's old, at 18??? You got some years left to go, young one, before you can grab ahold of that cane...
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must carry this copy of Bionic Commando on my back, uphill, barefoot, in 12 feet of snow, both ways....

I don't mind nice graphics, but I also love old games like Chrono Trigger or FFVI. Anything at about Super Nintendo level works for me, though the graphics are a slight turn off earlier than that (but that isn't a huge detail: Super Mario 1 is still a very enjoyable game because it is well made).

Otherwise: heh, Cranky Kong.

Yeah, I know! I beat Ocarina of Time without losing a single life. My record for the original Zelda for NES is about...twenty-one, I think. I got maybe one game over in FFVII. Compare that with the three game overs I got in FF1 for NES in the first FIVE HOURS.

Kids today would probably whine that games back then were too hard. Well, I say the opposite! It is the games today that are too easy!

If games weren`t hard like FF1 than there would be no point to them I mean really theres no character developement or story. Needs Challenge...

Older games were more difficult because otherwise you would finish them almost immediately. If designers today wanted to make exceptionally hard games, they could still make them, I just think they value more advanced storyline and gameplay. We might ask for games to have a certain degree of challenge, but we wouldn't think a logistically impossible game was loads of fun.

Master Quest was HARD. Though, I didn't really get stuck until the Fire Temple.

I personally think that the difficulty in modern day games is actually better because it's more balanced than it used to be, making it painless for new genrations of gamers to join in. I only really gripe when the game is too easy (like Resident Evil 3 on Hard mode.... it was really about the same difficulty as RE1 on Beginner mode, or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where you are near invincible towards the end... ect.) or too difficult to the point of being close to impossible. (Battletoads.... ugh.)

I personally think that:

Most 2D games should be as challenging as possible. (Excluding RPGs)

RPGs should not be Easy, but not insanely difficult either. Specifically, players shouldn't have to spend too much time trying to level up in order to advance the story they are engrossed into: Games like Dragon Quest for the NES are forgiven as they have no real story anyways.

Action/Adventure games should have difficulty select. (The Normal default should be pretty challenging, but not extremely hard)


The thing that gets me about playing a game that's too easy is that I really don't feel a great sense of satisfaction when I beat the game.... sure, I won, but it was no sweat really. It's alot more rewarding being able to overcome something extremely challenging and make it to the end.

That is a good point. Balance is necessary here, as in many things. On the other hand, FFX didn't cause me any trouble, but for me the payoff was the storyline, not the difficulty. At the other end of the spectrum, once I finished Battletoads the two-bit ending just made me think "Forgive me, dear Lord, I just wasted so much of my life..."

I love Chrono Trigger... *look at avatar* It was the first RPG I ever played and it is the best ever made. None better. My favorite character was Magus *look at avatar*

I think it is one of those games that can be played over and the second or third time is even better because you see things little things that were easy to miss the first time around.

But I am curious...Magus was my favorite character...So I never played with out him...but is the kill Magus ending with Frog changing back to human really worth losing the dark lord of shadows?

I have to say Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite RPG's of all time. (I hated Chrono Cross though...) I'd like to get my hands on the PS version.

[Note that Magus was also my favorite characters.] Yes, if you are trying to get all endings. Otherwise, no it doesn't really balance, unless you are a huge Frog fan. But just because you get that ending doesn't mean you have to forfeit Magus.

The PS version isn't really worth it if you have the SNES version... it's plagued by heavy load times and mediocre sound. The anime cut scenes were okay, but they were out of sync with the game, and not really neccessary anyways.

EDIT: One thing I would personally like to see in RPG's would be a difficulty select though. (Normal Mode and Hard Mode for the advanced players) This is something I'm seriously thinking about inputing into my RPG's when I'm a game designer.

Yep, that`s what made Star ocean 3 a good play for me.

Master Quest was a remake of Ocarina of Time; it had the same plot and system, but the dungeons were reworked to make them harder.
