Money for grad school

Postby Rogie » Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:55 pm

Hey, guys, could you please pray regarding my current situation with grad school? I've been accepted to both the University of Tennessee and the University of Georgia, but I found out today that UGA doesn't give assistantships to first-year master's students. Now my only option is getting an assistantship at UT, before I have to worry about taking out student loans (which I'd rather not to do if I can get an assistantship). I guess I was a little too "cocky" in only applying to two places, but oh, well. Please pray that things work out with this and that God's will be done.

My big problem right now is being patient enough for God to move, for notification regarding the assistantship decision at UT, and to keep my faith strong in God. I appreciate your prayers, everyone!

First off Congrats for the acceptance.
Secondly, I will pray that everything works out according to God's will- wether you get assistance or have to take a loan. Continue to have faith and you'll be just fine. I'll be praying for ya bro.

I'll be praying for you rogie_san! And congratulations on getting in!

Sorry to hear about that, although I'm surprised that the schools would do that. Every university that I know of pays their students (e.g. while I do pay tuition, I'm also given a research stipend and a TAship). I'll keep you in my prayers.

What field are you studying by the way?
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Ohh....this is something I can relate to. >_<;;; I know grad students who have to fund themselves while selecting Option A:Thesis. It's crazy, I know. My department is suffering budget cuts and grad students are among the few who face the brunt of it all. I'll definitely pray for you!

Thanks for the prayers, everyone! I really appreciate it. Actually I'm feeling a lot better today, because while doing my Bible study last night, God led me to Matthew 6 and the passage to not worry, since God will always take care of everything. It's so simple that I forgot to even remember that until I read the passage again. As always, God will take care of me.

What's more is that I decided to show the passage to my dad today to let him know how God comforted me last night. My dad isn't saved, but he got really excited after reading the passage and started talking about the Lord, etc. If nothing else, all this has been a witness to my dad. He acts more like a Christian than I do sometimes, but he just hasn't made that commitment to the Lord. But thank the Lord for the effect the passage had on my dad, as well!

Oh, and I'm pursuing a master's in journalism/mass communication. I hope to ultimately get my Ph.D. so that I can teach college.

Thanks again for your prayers, guys, and I would appreciate continued prayers (including for my dad's salvation). Love you all! :thumb:

Another update, everyone! First, I must say:

WOOT!

I found out today that I'm receiving an assistantship to the University of Tennesee, which means that my entire tuition is covered while I'm in grad school! Praise the good Lord above!

And thanks for your prayers, everyone! I couldn't wait to tell y'all when I found out, since you people do mean a lot to me. :thumb: And, in relation to my other recent request for my mom, this has made her feel a lot better today, which is yet another blessing from God. And Dad's once again talking about God and how He answers prayer, so I think he's getting closer to salvation. So many blessings, and what a wonderful God!

Thanks again, everyone! :jump: I'll try to calm down now.

Wow that is great news, Roger! I wish you good luck and the best in grad school (don't let my constant whining about grad school discourage you, OK?) ^__^

Oh, don't worry, Mave! I'll probably be whining myself once I'm there! But I'll try to make the most of it all. And hey, we've all gotta rant and vent our emotions sometimes, not to mention depend upon others for prayer. And I do hope your and your friends' situation gets better (see my post in that thread :thumb: ). Thanks!
