I remember it from the one time that I watched it. As science fiction it was vaguely interesting, but I didn't become particularly involved with any of the characters. I found a few of the reaction shots of aliens vaguely amusing. For example, the countdown features a laughing skull and crossbones, which wouldn't make the slightest bit of sense to an alien intellect.

Ha ha ha, mom wouldn't let me watch in when it first came out, because those aliens were so "scary" (yeah scary as my pinky), so when I finally got to see it I think it lost some of its allure because I was older and I'd seen stuff like it before. But Will is so funny, I like about any movie he's in.

I've started to become quite impressed with Will Smith as an actor. He's got a great sense of timing and a great delivery. And that started with Independence Day.

I remember this flick being a fun movie. The first part that comes to mind is Will Smith punching a big alien in the face and saying "welcome to Earth"

That line Shatterheart mentioned was definitely the best line in the movie.

Pretty good overall, but I doubt that we could come up with a virus that could affect their systems if their technology was that advanced...they probably would've laughed it off.

Realism would ruin a lot of things though. I mean, as small as Will Smith was compared to that thing, do you think a punch would have hurt it? No it probably would have bit his head off...but that would have made all the children cry. ;)

It was a "fun" movie to watch. Let's face it, just about every sci-fi, fantasy, action movie you have to throw reality away while watching. ~_^

I enjoyed watching it with the whole family - it made the movie worth watching for the umpteenth time. ^_____^

Also, when I first watched the movie in the theatre, I recall how impressed I was when the aliens first appeared - the graphic effects of this movie truly captured the feeling of an immense space craft hovering over a city. It was breathtaking how they did these scenes back when it was first released.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

HAHA... This movie was pretty fun. Although, you really have to not let yourself look for plotholes, because there are quite a few in it.

I believe this is the origin of Movie Law #11: "The average laptop has the power to overwhelm the entire networks of incredibly advanced alien species."

Heh. You pretty much have to do that with any movie not based on real life.

Quite frankly, this is one of my favorite movies for a variety of reasons.

1. Large tallented cast. While no one in the cast is an incredibly famous actor (with the possible ecception of Will Smith) they all were good and entertaining actors.

2. Dramatic timing. It is a bit unrealistic, but I just love seeing airforce 1 flying out of DC in a big could of flames.

3. Seeing lots of stuff blow up! Face it, we all like seeing things explode. I know I do.

On a side note...

Nother random factoid for all us wierdos:

Bill Pullman was so convincing in his portrayal of the President of the United States that for some time people were convinced that he was the President. Or maybe the target audience of the movie was that stupid.

Thought you'd like to know. Bill Pullman has an awesomely awesome factor of 12. (On a scale of -3 to 8.45)

No, it's not great cinema, but it is thouroughly entertaining. I keep catching bits of it on tv over the last couple of weeks, and still find myself holding my breath when they fire off those last couple of missles. Very good suspension of reality.

The movie was entertaining but it is far from an excellent all-time great. But its tons of fun though.

PS: The virus they uploaded was in fact "Windows 95".

Yep, seeing things explode is one of the best things in life. That, and watching things get pushed off fifty-story buildings. They did that on Letterman once. They dropped an arcade machine and a 55-gallon trash can full of Superballs. It rocked.

*goes off to watch more things explode*

 Are you serious or am I just that gullible?

I've seen this movie through several times and I remember that I enjoyed it a lot. xD; But no specific scenes come to mind except for the one with Will Smith dragging the dead alien through the desert. o.O

Loved this movie and it was the movie that feature Will Smith rising in his "acting" career (even though he really didn't have one :P). I love good cheese flicks like this one and it certainlely had the special effects to capture my attention. Owned the VHS for a while and might get the DVD to justify how much of a collector I am. :)

This movie was great! I saw it in the cinema when I was younger and the special effects blew me away! Parts were scary, but most of it was a lot of fun. Since then I've seen it a 3 or 4 times. But the first time I saw it I cried when Will Smith and his girlfriend got married - pretty pathetic, eh?
