Snow

As I'm writing this, I'm watching my first snowfall of the season. I say "my first" because it's snowed in other towns around me, but this is the first one I've witnessed this year. So ... it has begun.

snow=good
ice=bad

I'm never going to see either where I am (unless it's artificial), my last snowfall that I saw was back in Feb. in Indiana.

You're getting snow already!? aw, lucky! hahah, snow is a beautiful thing isn't it? Well, maybe it's just cause I'm a total snowboarding winter freak. :lol: :thumb: I wished it would snow here, unusually warm weather for this time of the season here in MN.

It's so pretty to watch ... but not so lovely to drive in, I'm afraid. I was explaining to someone the other day that seeing a jack-o-lantern under 4 inches of snow is not rare at all.

Meanwhile, where I live, it is in the mid-90s.

Snow here... is exceptionally rare. Occasionally, the high desert mountains get a light dusting. I remember my neighborhood having snow flurries back in December of '99... but they melted as soon as they hit the ground.

One of my dreams in life is to eventually live somewhere where it snows. I'd love to live somewhere where there are actual seaons besides "dry cold" and "evil heat".

Heh now that is quite funny. One of my dreams in life it to live somewhere where it doesn't snow. Growing up in Wisconsin = I am sick of snow! And humidity... I hate that too. :P

I like snow. I hate cold. :P Around here, we don't get much of it except like Jan-Feb, around in there. And it's only enough to make the roads messy... -_-

I live in Texas so we hardly ever get any snow. It occasionally sleets or snows but it usually melts because the weather's too warm and it when it actually gets on the ground it usually resembles ice.
We did have a rather bad ice storm earlier this year.

I don't have to worry about such things here in Alabama. It may snow in the Northern part of the state every few years. The nice thing about snow around here is that if it even looks like it might snow then school will get canceled even when it doesn't snow. The weather in the SE seems to go in cycles. Years may go by without it snowing, but all of a sudden there happens to be a cold winter. Imagine that. I remember the snow when I lived in Maryland back in the early 90s with those two years with bad blizzards; 4' or more snow. I don't miss it any. It's just too frustrating trying to make snowballs with cheep gloves and the warm is good.

Heh. Snow.

I had my kiddy days follicking in the white stuff...

I had both cheap and decent gloves to make snowballs with...

I even got my times off from school when it was more than 3' of snow in Wash. D.C....

Making snow forts...

Blowing the snow forts away with "MegaDoozeys"...

Making snow/ice courses on hills for home-styled "Luge" events...

...ahh, those were the days...

*sigh*

Snow?! Oh, you're so lucky!!

I know it says Cali, but I'm just staying here for a few weeks - I've lived in Georgia for most of my life.

It snowed one time in Georgia - two WHOLE inches!! School was canceled for three days, and all the stores sold out of milk and bread. People refer to it as 'The blizzard of '92'. :lol:
I was only (counts quickly on fingers) five then, so I don't remember it. Lol, i bet all you northerners can't imagine that - I never remember seeing snow! One day I will, though - maybe I'll move up north, and have so much snow I'll be sick of it!! :jump: That would be nice...

We usually get more ice than actual snow here. >:[ Bleh. I hear this winter is supposed to be "bad", so that probably means...ice. -_-

It's not that it doesn't snow in Texas, it just doesn't snow in Houston. Probably because our temps are going from in the 40s (like right now just after dawn) to the mid 90s by afternoon. Yuck. Eh, snow's ok...I lived in Washington state for a while, and yeah, it was fun. But living in it would probalby not be so fun. *Maine members bow sagely*

It snowed a little bit when I was up in Lake Louise. They usually close some of the smaller roads there in mid-October. In Hamilton, we probably won't see snow until late November or December sometime, and we usually don't get a lot (usually). Part of this is because of Lake Ontario's presence, as well as the Niagara Escarpment.

Personally, I like the snow and the cold.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

That is really weird. Today was the hottest day we've had in a good while. I live near the ocean, so the water's heat capacity keeps things pretty temperate.

Down here in Florida I'm still running the air durring the day (would open up at night if I could get the bedroom window open :( )

It has been getting down to the mid-high 60's in the early morning when I start my chip-run....

Florida's too hot, but I don't think I'd want to live in PA again, not full time, I've gotten to be a bit of a wimp, and very cold weather tends to give me problems with my asthma (or whatever it is that gives me fits)..... I'm thinking maybe NC or somewhwere around there might be nice.

Could do with a good romp in the snow though, it's been since the mid-80's since I've done that.
