i'd like to lift up my city. i live about 10 minutes away (i live in the suburbs) from the city part of Dayton and its been really ghetto lately. lots of crime, and every other day you read about some kids in the city getting in fights and shooting or stabbing somebody and they die. this is getting real old, real fast. while the violence isnt random (meaning its against others they know, not random passerbys) and seems to only stay in the city - im still having a VERY VERY hard time feeling compassion for most of this, because ive seen alot of attitudes and other sweet stuff - and its like people are trying to turn this city into freakin' Chicago/New York/LA. i guess id also like to throw in that we've (the city Dayton) have already made it in the top ten most homicide/crime ratio in all the United States. my college is in the middle of the city, and im just wondering its just a matter of time till some lovelyness goes down there the church is trying their best, many have programs for city kids and for parents. their is a big outreach for the entire city, but it just doesnt seem to be hitting home with everybody, since this stuff is still happening.

i guess im losing hope over the issue, since i hear about this kinda stuff so frequently. please pray for my city; that people would stop this nonsense and get their lives in order. i really'd like for God to do a huge work here. this is a really nice place to live, but its been hard as of late. please pray for me as well, i might need to have my heart broke for these people if i'm gonna be of any use. thanks for the prayers guys.

I'll be praying too, enishi. I live about 1-2 hours away from Los Angeles, and even with that distance, things happen.

Even living in a small town in Virginia, away from any major city (the closest being either Roanoke or Knoxville, TN), hearing about things like this still pains my heart. However, it is good to bear such a burden of love for others who are less fortunate and who need God, because it brings us closer to the heart of Jesus. It's not pleasant, but it is in God's will for us, too.

Anyway, I'll pray for your city in particular tonight, enishi.

i know what you mean, my dad's store is within the ghetto... and sometimes i help there... there's a lot of drugs, crime, and stuff. Police cars constantly around the neighborhood, 9-1-1 calls. One guy who parked right outside my dad's store to buy something even had his window smashed by a brick. And someone else threw a brick at my dad's window (luckily it wasn't a glass window so it didn't shatter)
