The New PS2 / Advice for Fireproof

Postby Fireproof » Wed Mar 23, 2005 5:35 pm

I saved up for a couple of weeks and bought one today, and I'd like to show it off here.

Looks normal, huh?

Not quite.

Pretty cool, huh? This thing is MUCH smaller than I expected.

I don't have any games or memory cards, but my mom rented Front Mission 4 for me and I'm borrowing a memory card from a friend. After that, I plan to start getting some games. Any suggestions? I'm partial to RPGs, action games, and anyhitng that's value-priced, but nothing M rated please.

Well, if you're partial to RPG's, I suggest chrono trigger. (although this is a |PS1 game that requires a PS1 memory card.) I would also like to recomend Xenosaga EP 1.(|Although some find that it has slightly objectionable content for a christian) Unfortunately, I can't really recomend many PS2 games, because most of my favorites are either on Gamecube, Xbox, or some older console.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

lord of the rings: the third age, it's really good, the other lord of the rings games were more action, in same line as gauntlet, but this one is actual turn based combat, you have hp, you have ap (more like mp), you have sp (more like ap) and you have of course exp, can't really get into details about it now without giving a lot away, but it even has an evil mode where you can play as the enemies of middle earth, take down the good guys, and if you're successful in that level, you gain special weapons and stuff that you can then have transfered to your good guys for them to use,

as far as platform style games go (i dunno if you like those or not), please allow me to recommend ratchet and clank, since this'll be your first time with the duo, lemme recommend the first one, it's really good, it has good action, and it has its funny parts too, i really like those games, i haven't played any of Jak though, i'd heard that it was similar to it, but i can't say how much

hope you enjoy your new slimline ps2

Ico is arguably the most beautiful game ever created.

Just my $0.02.

Okay, I'd like to update here. Front Mission 4 is kind of boring. -.- I'm going to see if I can exchange it for another game, probably Dark Cloud 2. I've played Dark Cloud 1, and loved it, but how's the sequel?

Just a tad warning in which you probably already know... that thing has no fans so it will heat up easily. So keep it standing up and not in the sun or near warm objects. Just trying to make sure you get to keep your system and not let it explode ;)

BTW I saw one the other day and I do have to say it is awesom looking.

Fairly fun. Can get repetitive after a while. Supposed to be quite a bit better than the first (which I haven't played). Never got around to beating it. Overall, I would imagine you will enjoy it.

If the thing had no fans it would overheat and burn out in an hour. It has an internal fan look at the pic. The stuff about the new slim PS2 having overheating problems is a myth. My DVD player gets hotter than this thing does. As long as you don't stick it in an extremely cramped area you won't have a problem no matter where ya put it.

The only game I can recommend that fits your criteria, what with the rating restrictions and all, is Tekken 5. That's all I play on the PS2. Okay, Tekken in general, Tekken 5 is the best yet.
Take it like you gave it; what else matters in the end? To be honest, it's all a one-shot test; that leaves plenty of places to go wrong, but how will you ever know? There's a pointer, I will admit. Turn it on, listen to it, feel it burn.

I used to own the original Dark Cloud right after it came out. I sold it years ago but I remember it was pretty fun. At least the city building aspect was interesting but the dungeon crawlin got a little repetitive after awhile.

Huh. I'll embark on a quest to get DC2 after I beat the original. ^_^
