I love the banana. Anyways, has anyone here played any of the Star Ocean games?

I bought Star Ocean: Till the End Of Time due to a mistake and I LOOOOOOOVE the battle system. Very realistic. Anyways, I`ll never play the original because it`s only for SNES but i do plan to buy the second for PS1. What are the graphics and is it good?

the one for snes has pretty good graphics, think ff6. the psx one (so2) has somewhat grainy graphics but is still pretty good. they are both extremely fun though i want to smack claude around at times in so2.

Star Ocean the Second Story rocks my socks. ^_^ Excellent game, though I think I'd like to join desperado in the beating of Claude C. Kenny.

Yeah, I'm a Star Ocean fan.

I'm fairly close to beating Star Ocean 3. At this point in the game, most of the normal enemies seem to consist of former bosses which can prove to be annoying...

I am currently playing Star Ocean: To the end of Time. It is so fun! I love the graphics and anime look of it plus actually fighting is nice.

No, the graphics in Star Ocean: The Second Story technically aren't as good as Final Fantasy VIII.

They are however good enough for the game... The gameplay is good enough so that the graphics don't really matter.

SO3 is cool, unfortunately I never knew I had to save Roger Huxely from the theives (I didn't even know he was in the forest at the time) and therefore lost him as a character forever... I also guess he must have been killed as well!? All because I was too focused on the mission... why! why! I tried looking for him afterwards but there was just a house with noone there...

I never played FFVIII (they need a new numbering system) but I still think the graphics are number one. But did anyone else note that at the beggining of the game the main characters seemed like little brats?

God bless,

Oh, yeah...
For some reason, Roger S. Huxley is the only character you can actually miss entirely. Nel, Albel, and Peppita will all join you, at least temporarily, for plot-related reasons.
Although, of the four characters you have to choose from, Roger is technically my least favorite.
Actually, I would have prefered that all of the characters join the party permanantly. This system felt less coherant than the one in Star Ocean 2.

I'm not sure what you are refering to by "little brats." Are you refering to Final Fantasy VIII or Star Ocean 3?

For the period of time i had Roger, because i went into the house, I never used him because I didn`t know how to switch between characters.

Am I the only one aggrivated that you spend WAY too much time on the planet where Roger and Nel and Albel and all those people are?!

I mean, i know you leave the planet where most of Disc 1 takes place at the end of Disc 1. I hope you don`t go back there! i want to see new worlds. Do you go back or not?

So is SO2`s graphics like in between FF7 and 8?

Unfortunately the online stratagy guide says you go back :(... Yes I too never want to see this rock again because I actually forget that this was a space RPG for a while... It now seems more like an ancient rpg.

I'm not sure what you are refering to by "little brats." Are you refering to Final Fantasy VIII or Star Ocean 3?

Well I stated that I never played FFVIII, in the beggining. The main characters just got on my nerves at the beggining. Fayt seemed to have neither ethics, or ideals, and sofia might have been worse. But luckily Fayt gained a few after whipple...

Yes, you go back to Elicoor II on the second disk.

Well, they seemed like a typical RPG hero and heroine to me.

Star Ocean 2 is a bit hard to find. I bought it recently used without instructions for 20 or 25 dollars. It was well worth it though (thanks Kisa for the recommendation! ^___^). It's very replayable, with multiple endings, two different main characters to start as, and various characters you can recruit, and has an interesting battle system that took a little getting used to. I've beaten it with both main characters, now I'm at the end of the secret dungeon but haven't beaten the final boss of the dungeon yet. I bought the first volume of the Star Ocean anime recently, based on Star Ocean 2, and enjoyed it. It has stayed pretty close to the storyline of the game so far.

I have not played Till the End of Time yet, but I may buy it. Does it tie into the storyline of 2 at all (without revealing spoilers please)?

Stupid annyoing.......grrrrr...... Let me guess, on disk 2, while you`re escaping the stupid planet it crashes once again. The world is too small and you memorize the towns names and locations way too fast unlike FF10.

I wanna buy Star ocean: The Second Story but i figure I should try Grandia Xtreme first.

No. It takes place 400 years after the events of The Second Story. There are a few brief references to characters from the second one as, you might say, "cameo" mentions. But the stories do not tie into each other.

No, that's not right. You can actually go back to any place you have visited that wasn't destroyed/wrecked. At any rate, there are still some things that you will need to do on Elicoor II that tie into the main plot. But to say any more will involve major spoilers.

Oh so Star Ocean 3 and 2 are minorly tied unlike FF games. Is the 2nd and 1st tied? Even though i`ll never play the 1st unless it was released on the Ps1 without me knowing. And how many discs are on the 2nd one?

Ok, so there`s two disks in Second Story.

Thankyou MasterDias for telling me in a different forum.

In So3 , I`m stuck on Robin Wind. It`s actually the first boss in this game I`ve ever been stuck on.

There are three playable characters I don`t have that I know are possible to getat this point.

I need Roger whom i did meet in the house place and killed off his boss.
I need mirage, because a walkthru told me you can get her now and never told how.
Also, some other guy that I forgot the name of with gray hair.

Is it sad that I little boy with a feather is more complicated to fight then a huge dragon zombie or a gignatic Crystal Statue that`s alive?
I bet Robin Wind has absolutely nothing to do with the plot and they just stuck him in to tick you off.

Actually, I would have prefered that all of the characters join the party permanantly. This system felt less coherant than the one in Star Ocean 2.

Okay, here's the deal: You have room in your party for seven characters. FIVE are permanent and CANNOT be removed. They are: Fayt, Sophia, Cliff, Mirage, and Ardray, the grey haired guy you mentioned (sp?). The four optional characters are Roger, Nel, Albel, and Peppita.

Mirage joins...I can't remember, but I THINK it's after you go to Styx (the long arm of the...er, sorry, bad joke). I THINK. She'll join automatically, so don't worry about missing her. Ardray joins in two places. If you do the correct PAs on Disc One, he will be in the party until you leave Elicoor, and will return AFTER you finish the Shrine of Kaddan mission on Disc Two. If you didn't recruit him on Disc One, he joins BEFORE the Shrine of Kaddan mission on Disc Two. Either way, he joins automatically and cannot be missed, much like Mirage. If they're not in your party yet, it's not time.

Anyway, that means you must choose two of the other four characters to be in your party, and the other two are lost forever. One joins automatically at the beginning of Disc Two (Roger, Nel, or Albel) depending on the PAs you perform the before the War with Airyglyph (Nel is the default). Peppita can be recruited immediately after Moonbase, if you so choose. The remaining two of Roger, Albel, and Nel (whichever two did NOT join after Elicoor II) can be recruited by performing certain tasks upon your return to the planet.

Since you asked specifically about Roger, Tom, I'll tell you if you REALLY want his useless raccoon butt to be a permanent member. Upon your return to Elicoor, go to Surfiero and go to Roger's house. He'll ask to go on another adventure with you, and you can then recruit him permanently.

It takes place 400 years after the events of The Second Story. There are a few brief references to characters from the second one as, you might say, "cameo" mentions. But the stories do not tie into each other.

Which is a shame, I was hoping the mysterious beams of light at the end of Disc One were from Indalecio...sigh.

OH! Speaking of Indalecio...

WARNING: The following spoiler box contains the craptacular plot twist of SO3. Do NOT read unless you want the most interesting but worst part of the game ruined for you.
Were Indalecio and the Ten Wise Men actually part of the Executioners programmed by the Eternal Sphere's higher ups? They did seem pretty adamant about destroying/deleting the universe, and I find it hard to believe the programmers wouldn't have fixed such a "bug" unless it was actually something they created themselves.

I read a Star Ocean FAQ...the PA on Energy Nede where you release Filia as Indalecio's limiter...when you fight him and he fuses with Filia, he says, "I will erase you!" I wonder if he knew?

Anyway, after the "wonderful" (HUGE sarcasm) revelation that the universe is merely a video game, I had always wondered what the Wise Men were, exactly...whether they were regular Player Characters, or NPCs from the company designed to delete the program.
I bet Robin Wind has absolutely nothing to do with the plot and just stuck him in to tick you off.

If you think it's bad now, wait until one of the later dungeons. There's a battle where you fight three previous bosses at the same time. He's one of them.

And isn't what you said pretty much true of most RPG bosses? :P
