I Hate Steam

Postby Knives » Sun Mar 06, 2005 11:24 am

Gahh I hate steam. It makes games so freaking hard to play. Steam is one of the worst things that has ever happened in the gaming industry.

Sorry but I am really mad cause I cant get cs to work

Thats why steam is so hard to work with, its simply doenst like cheaters and takes every step to stop it.

I hate steam... I bought HL2 but can't play it, the only computer that had the internet was my slower P4 1.4 ghz with 64 mb of video card memory, it really stinks playing HL2 on and the eyes of everyone are white... really creepy, I'd really like to play it on my other comp though, 2.4 ghz, 256 mb video card 512 mb's of ram, I even bought a 56k modem for it just to try and upload steam, but upon buy that steam kept failing to connect to the steam network before it even began. And the upload took forever, even after I uploaded though I still hit a problem, now the computer asks me if I want to play in offline mode and then states "cannot connect to steam network" well duh... I said to play in offline mode, and if I'm connected to the internet it tells me that it can't connect to the steam networks again. I'm now looking for a h4c|< version to replace my legal one so I can actually play without using steam. By the way Fry's electronics refused to take back the software after I found out it didn't work, something about a deal between them and steam with software. However the h4c|< version probobly won't work anyways because I could never download a couple of gigabytes over my 56k modem. RATS!!!! death to steam.... die steam die... If anyone from STEAM is reading this I will never by a product with your name on it again, and it's your fault... :P

Ya guys better get used to it because this trend isn't gonna die anytime soon. Personally I've only had one problem with Steam. When I used to play CS 1.6 or whatever I got a new computer and wanted to put CS on my new one. It said my cd key was already in use even though I was logged in my old account and everything where my key was registered. I contacted customer service and they weren't much help. I didn't really care at the time because CS was getting really then anyway.

I haven't had a problem with it as far as Half Life 2 and CS Source goes though. Sure Steam has some bugs to work out but it can only get better and it already has.

I found no problems with it so far, and I definitely can't blame them for protecting themselves. Besides, Steam has got Codename: Gordon XD XD

Why don't they use the same method microsoft uses for it's servers where you can call over a telephone instead of requiring you to have the internet. Why should I have to shell out 27 dollars a month or risk having my game deleted, this is worse than an online game, I only have 56k I don't even want to play over the internet just over my LAN and on one player. Not to mention that STEAM runs ALL the time and starts up with the computer, after starting it takes up 40 percent of the system rescources (nasty) and is a pain to shut down (you have to use ctrl alt del).

Also if this is the trend of computer games I'm leaving the computer genre, at least console games don't require an internet fee every month for a single player game that's already paid for at the store. The only people who win from this are the cooperate jerks that made this game. For the fist time I find myself looking to kaazaa for a hack version of something I already own and paid for, going underground for something that rightfully belongs to me.

Hackers will always exsist and they will always find away around these sorta things, its just a matter of time. The only people who pay for it are the common folks like us who didn't do anything. My stand: Don't involve yourself with any cooperation that is reminiscent of the mafia. Either the people behind HL2 will change their tactics or they'll loose a larger percentage of their profits than they originally lost due to hackers and the like.

first of all, what are you talking about $27 a month? if there is such a few, then i must owe them alot :)

second, you dont have to have steam run when windows starts up
go into steam settings, and click the interface tab, then uncheck Run Steam when Windows starts.

and third, you can just rightclick the icon in the system tray and click exit, why alt ctrl del?

oic, but that money goes to earthlink lol, not valve
unless you only have internet for steam, then its kinda like your paying monthly for the game

also, there is a steam offline mode, i have never needed it, so i dont know much about it

Sorry, I was joking. I think its a software program that allows you to download your gme (Half-life 2) to your hardrive, for a price. People seem to be having problems with it. That's all I know.

Sorry about the joke!

lol no, steam is a game delivery service that gives you access to all valve products, game mods, it has a game server browser and also has a friends list (which still doesnt work lol)

Hey, I like Codename Gordon, the cutscenes are hilarious ]:) XD By stage 2 I've already learned to just speed through and run while I can XD

I think that since a majority of those that play HL would also play CS (which is multiplayer), Steam really is tailored for those with high speed connections. You just don't have a lot of PC gamers (especially multiplayer types) these days that still use dial-up.
