.ogm/ogg files

Ok, so I've downloaded some anime in .ogm file format. At first it wouldn't load, but I've finally got the .ogm files to run in WMP(newest version).

One problem. If I load the file, sound works fine as does subbing. But...if I skip ahead at ALL, the sound disappears. It's the oddest thing ever, LoL.

so yeah...I can explain more....but has anyone run into this problem before??

I used to have the same problem. What happend with me is that I didn't have all the necessary fitlers and decoders. Perhaps you may have the same problem as I did.
My suggestion is to goto http://www.anime-legion.net/.

In the "Download Section" they have a file called "A-L Filter Pack." It contains several filters, decoders etc... It's a good thing for all around coverage needs. This may help and if it doesn't, sorry.

Or sometimes it's a problem with the video file in general. If someone encoded wrongly, or used a different method, sometimes problems arise in during playback. I've had a few like that in the past, even some that played both the japanese and english track at the same time. It may not be your computer or confliction of codecs- just the video file in general. Heck it happens.

I'd stay away from codec packs, any fansub group that puts one out is just supplying the versions that they use for their releases. Installing the major codecs individually and using a superior media player is a better idea than trusting some 17 year old kid on the internet that knows how to zip up some files.


now these are just my recommendations as they're what I use but I've had no problems or slowdown on anything at all.
Media Player Classic, opensource media player with the look and comparable system usage of WMP 6.4; better functionality to run container files like .ogm (ogg vorbis) and .mkv (matroska).

DivX 5.2.1, a given to get even though not as many use it anymore.

XviD 1.03 - Koepi's binary, more commonly used opensource version of DivX.

ffdshow 2005-02-16, a multiuse codec that can do a number of other formats.

Matroska Pack lite, bare essentials needed to play anything matroska, use MPC to open .mkvs

Actually I got most of my codecs from Matroska recently to install all my codecs... they seem to have everything too. Though long time I ago, before I formatted my computer I used the anime-legion website to install a few things. They also provides links to the Xvid website, AC3Filter 1.01a RC5 and a few others. Tthe A-L pack seemed to run all my *ogg files just fine. It had all up to date codecs for Ogg/MKV files, so I couldn't complain. THough, like Sync said, I would also recommend installing both Xvid (european open source codec) and ffdshow.

Though, also I usually install from the original codecs individually. I was just pointing out that one site because not everyone knows every codec to get, and the AL pack had a good chunk of files needed to play Ogg/MVK files. Whichever *shrugs*

ALso like I said before, for some reason the codecs don't work or help, then it may just be a problem with the video file in general.

winamp works with them, but you'll need to get a pluigin for it and also let it enable it to use .ogg/.ogm files

Go to http://www.doom9.org and download the Gordian Knot codec pack. It has everything you need.

Oh yes, the Gordian Knot codec pack has much needed files. Though I don't remember if their pack contains the codecs of the ogg files. Although, Doom9.org do have the downloads for the Ogg codecs seperatly.

Personally, I wouldn't advise to use Winamp to play ogg files. I've had my problems with winamp playing them, plus I don't care much for their video layout.... And even if you do use it, you still would have to get the plug-ins.
