Missions Trip

Postby Ashley » Thu Dec 16, 2004 2:34 pm

Hey everyone!

I have some exciting news. I just finished my application for a missions trip to Baja, Mexico this summer (July-August 05) via Global Expeditions. We're going to be building homes for the poor. I'm really hopeful that this will work out; I've wanted to do a missions trip for a long time, and this is within my budget to plan for. I'm extremely excited!

However, the process is just beginning for me. I've applied, but I haven't been accepted yet. Even then, I have alot of paperwork, planning, and praying to do for this trip. I come before you now to ask that you please pray over this trip (even without me), and if it's the Lord's will that I be involved, that He would provide the ways and means. So if you guys could just remember me in prayer over the next few months, it'd be awesome. Thanks.

That's awesome! I know how much going on a mission trip means to you. I really hope you get accepted, it would be a great opportunity. I have faith, regardless if you get to go on this one or another, that you will be given the chance to be involved in a mission trip. Hopefully this will be the one. As of now you have the first step done, so you have a good start. Anyways, I will be praying for you in the mean time--both for being admitted and if you need it, financially. Keep us updated :P. Good Luck!

Friends of mine talk about the benefits of missions trips to no end. I'll certainly support you in this, with prayer and anything else I'm capable of. I hope all of this goes well for you.

Of course, I'll know you'll do a great job.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I'll happily pray for you. I hope everything works out.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Great news!

I got an email from GE, and while they apologized for the huge delay, I've been accepted! I'm waiting on the loads of paperwork I'll have to fill out, but step one is complete! I'm so excited about this I can't even begin to tell you. May the Lord find His vessel ready and willing for His purpose in Mexico.

I'm going to talk to my pastor about this tomorrow and see about getting the church's financial backing. So please continue to keep this in your prayers.

Ah; the delay explains why this thread has been gone for so long. I had thought plans had changed, but it appears that there is a far more positive outcome. Congratulations.

Hate to grave-dig on my own post, but SirThinks2Much's post on Cambodia reminded me to update mine. Lots of things to report! I may be flying out to San Diego early if they chose me as a mission advisor, which is basically like playing mother hen.

And through this trip I was invited to a missions confrence by my church. At the confrence, God was so gracious and awesome! He broke my heart, and reawakened to fire in me. If that were not sufficient enough, the Lord called me out for full time missions work. Right now I'm surveying bible colleges in the area and will, if the Lord wills, be transferring to a bible college or seminary in the fall, and hopefully within a few years be out in the field full time. I'm very, very excited about this! If you want to know more please feel free to PM me or check out my missions blog: http://www.hands-and-feet.blogspot.com

Praise the Lord, for He is so incredible. I can look back and see every instance in my life building up to this decision, and I cannot tell you how profoundly touched and moved I have been since that confrence. Again, our God is a GOOD GOD worthy of ALL our praise!! I can't wait to see what he does in Baja this summer. It will be totally awesome.

I know it's been months since this thread was posted on, but hey, I can gravedig my own thread, right?

Well, as of today I am officially scheduled for this trip. My plane tickets were bought this afternoon. To be honest, it's a huge relief because for a while, I did not know if I was going to be able to make it or not. However, God is good and my mother is a smart, firm woman who can use the phone. XD

I'm leaving on July 30 and returning August the 6. Your prayers for this week (and the following one as I prepare to move out) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much guys!

Good to hear everything worked out nicely. I'll pray everything goes well, and that this will be a great learning experience. Also I'll pray that this trip will help you grow closer to Christ and closer to the people . Whenever you get back in august, let us know how it went. So rock on and have a blast!

I guess the CAA is going to be running without you for a good while then? I wish you a safe and happy journey. I'm curious: is this with your church or with some other organization?

I've thought about going on a missions trip myself... preferably to Japan... but anywhere is good.... it's just that I don't have the neccessary time at the moment with my stackpile of studies to attempt such an endeaver. I want to keep the option open for the right time though.

Yes, but you kids better behave!

It's through Global Expeditions, a division of Teen Mania. I'm not really impressed with them...they've really pushed me around and lost a bunch of my paperwork. So I won't recommend them to anyone. Still, it was affordable.

Do you have a link anyways? (Or a list of links?)

If they aren't on hand, don't worry about it. I can do the research myself.

Actually Azier, I STRONGLY caution against you using them--today TWO WEEKS before I'm supposed to leave, I get a letter (not a phone call, a letter, the slowest form of communication) telling me they've lost nearly all my paperwork AND I owe them nearly double what I was supposed to pay. So I'm expected to raise several hundred dollars in two weeks, when I'm scheduled to be gone nearly all of that time. It's been a real stressful situation, and I would appreciate everyone's continued prayers for me and my family as we rely on the Lord for guidance.

But Azier, if you insist: www.globalexpeditions.com

Well guys, it doesn't look like I'm going to Mexico after all. Basically, they refuse to say "I'm sorry we miscommunicated to you" and refuse to give me a refund or to call off the 418 dollars I apparhently owe them. So, I'm canceling my trip. I won't get a refund, but that's ok. God is still Jehovah Jireh, my divine provider, and He knows my needs. So when He says "no", I say "no", even when it's going to cost me. I know all will work out, and I do want to thank those of you who prayed for me and this trip. I do appreciate it.
