Well the time is almost apon us and I for one am excited about this little console. Now that I've started this thread lets have ourself a little thread about Sonys new mech. What do you excepted..The games yer buying..Games ya wanna see on the PSP

Expectations & other cool stuff: Im excepting it to be great! And the wireless play I hear is gonna be apart of it makes me drool over the thought even more.

Games: Metal Gear Acid: A new way to play MG though the use of cards..click here for an interview with the product manager and here For screens. Although its not a games it seems Final fantasy 7: Advent Children will be a launch tile for the PSP which sealed my monies fate.

Just read that they sold out of the inital production in Japan already. I think it shall be a good fight between GBA, DS, and PSP. GBA already has a huge base, the DS is going to appeal to people looking for something completely different, and the PSP looks to push the ideas of what can be crammed into a handheld game. The big question is has the market expanded enough to support 3 hand helds? The home console market obviously has, going from one (NES), to two (SNES, Genesis then PS1 and N64) and now up to 3. Several times others have tried to get another portable out there, but none have survived for various reasons. By all accounts, the PSP is going to have the power, the marketing, and the games to survive, but are enoug people willing to crank out more cash for another system?

Of topic: My father met Alice Corpper

On topic: I think they will. With Sony begin more of a teen/mature gaming system I think Sony will have people buying handheld that never in a thousand years would buy something like the DS of Gameboy

And Volt..please lets stick to the topic of PSP I wasn't gonna say anything but this type of post leads to other off topic post. I pray Ihave not offened you in anyway.

The new "Gameboy" is codenamed Gameboy Evolution, and is likely going to be the successor to the DS. We know absolutely nothing about it. So-called rumors are actually derived from one person's wish list of features.

Well, I mean, battery life is going to be a concern. After all, unlike other portable systems, the PSP is going to have moving parts, which will certainly wear down the battery life quicker than usual. I don't know about the 70 minute thing...I had heard that the battery life was expected to be around 3 to 4 hours, personally...but I'm not sure where I heard that from.

I'm also more concerned with the moving parts in regard to the fact that the PSP is more or less designed to be a portable system...and if it's carried around constantly, would there be a danger of the parts being jarred too much to the point where they could fail more easily? Maybe I'm just worrying over nothing, and there isn't a risk of that...I don't know much about how game systems work...I just know I like to play them.

I could conceivably get a PSP, but my rule is I don't buy a system until it has at least 3 games for it I want, which is why I don't have an Xbox. I haven't seen any launch release titles that interest me, so I'm going to hold out on it for a while.

Volt wrote:no no, i'm not offended, it's just that psp reminds me of DS, them being in a feirce battle and all.

The thing is, PSP's battery life sucks, and there's nothing there to protect the screen, put the psp in your bookbag for a week and then pull it out, crap all over right? Unless you want to buy one of those "purses" for it and look wierd becuase you have to carry it because you can't possible fit it in your pocket. Or you'll have to keep it in your bookbag. While the DS folds, and safetly goes into your cargo pants pocket.

I don't Know, I'd rather design my own Handheld, Actually Carrying around my PSone with LCD screen is a lot funner.

But have you guys seen the UMD discs, nice idea, but the cases for them are almost the size of a DVD case, and that is NOT portable. They should make em n-gage style, only thinner, there's no need for such thick cases.

The umd is a good idea

From what I know there is something to protect the screen. although I agree with you that the DS has a better desgin to help hide the screen I stil like the style of the PSP.

And even so the pSP desing is somewhat easy..it in your pocket with the screen facing your leg.

Between the battery life, shoddy wiring (bad shoulder button, poor square button), and the UMD Disc with the laser thing = bad idea ( a good jolt could probably mess up the precision laser ).

And yeah, the screen getting scratched. I havent heard anything overtop of it to protect from scratches, but maybe it's applied to the screen. I dunno. We'll see.

Unless you are a die hard Sony fanboy, which I know many of you are, I would wait awhile to get the PSP. Wait and see if there are a lot of complaints about the system before you dunk 150 bucks into it and are unhappy.

Handheld gaming sucks. Thats my opinion. If I want to play video games, it will be on a tv. Not a crappy little screen. I could care less what games go to it. *shrug*

I have a friend who has a PSP and this is what he told me about it.

Incredibly fragile - It's NOT for children, drop it once and it's bust totally.

Not the best screen, twist the PSP a bit and the screen will almost pop out. The Discs it uses WILL fall out.

4hr battery... rather pathetic that, but theu do make it up by having a sortof Auto-Save function. You turn it off, when you turn it on again it's EXACTLY where you left it. Quite a useful function.

Ac!d.. is like playing Mario 64 with a Jump, stomp, and run card instead of actually doing it.

I'll give you this; it does look nice.. but it doesn't exactly hold the same interest that the PS2 and PSOne games would. Personally I am a DS person.. and will be for a while at least until I see what RPGs come out for the PSP.. As it stands right now.. DS is getting FFIII, Baiten Kaitos, Shin Megumi Tensei, and a Xenosaga. ^^

Not to mention the fact that it may get the DemaSked project to get it online. I hope that they put Advance Wars DS online >_>

...It sounds rather perfect for me...As for the drop comment..has he droped it?..Or is that a theory

AS for Trout Ninjas Comment...

This doesnt bother me one bit...if its fun its fun and I never really bought the Metal Gear games for gameplay (as much as I enjoy it) but for the story.

YEAH! You rock, Volt!

*Becomes serious again*

At any rate, I see ONE title I'm interested in for PSP...Dynasty Warriors...and to be honest, I'm only slightly interested in it. Mostly because I'm an RPG fanatic, and I don't see any RPGs in that list...besides, I think DS will probably be more RPG friendly.

I also think it's a BAD idea to charge console prices for handheld titles. That's a ripoff and a half. Who does Sony think they're going to get with those prices? People with money to burn? Sorry, but I'm NOT going to drop forty bucks for a game I can only play for four hours before I need to recharge the battery. That's retarded. I can play my Game Boy Advance for over twelve hours without recharging, and the games are only twenty bucks...thirty if you want them brand new and they're a hot title.

OK that was SO off topic, I pray you guys forgive me. Back to the PSP, I also saw those pictures about the square button, I read somewhere that it's false and the square button doens't really do that, but as for a few dead pixels and the UMD poping out, It's true. Then again almost ALL LCDs have at least 1 dead pixel, and that's the pixel in the middle of the screen, the first one to light up and last on to go out when the LCD is turned on and off.

Its those plot twist that keeps it from being.."Kill this guy ,Snake" Before you knock the story why dont you play MGS3 which has the best story yet....And if you don't like that one...Are you sure your my brother.

Back on Topic:

A dead pixel huh./..Id cant be helped now can it.

A for RPG freidleyness.....I'm quite confident that it'll have its share of RPGs....I mean SE has made RPG for PS2 ever since it came out.

Yah, volt, watch out knocking MG's story, especially after "Snake Eater"

I cried for a while at the end of that... That was the single best ending to any game I've ever played...

BTW, I understood MOST of the twists in MGS2, it's just that MGS2 was a middlepoint (to the "solid" series, though there were two games before solid)

I will grant you the latter half of your statement...but the first half is completely untrue. You can do FMV on a cartridge. Look at Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for proof of that. However, as I said, the latter half of your statement is true. That is probably the reason why KH is the only GBA game to have FMV, because putting FMV on a cartridge would eat away the memory something fierce.

Well, if DS cartridges can hold more than GBA cartridges (I don't know much about the systems, honestly), they should be able to do more FMV on DS than GBA.
