My Cousin and me

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Mon Jan 24, 2005 6:03 pm

okay. Im 15, got that. My cousin living with us is 35. She has a 5 year old son in daycare named Dennis. And MY Cousin is so annoying! I need help! Advice! Even Prayer. Today I was making a peanut butter jelly sandwhich. And As I was putting the jelly on the bread (there wasn't much jelly left) She tells me to use only a little. So dennis could have some tomorrow. I look in the container. there's hardly any left! Im like "why cant he just eat a ham sandwhich? We have a lot of ham" And of course, she goes "NO!" So Im like "fine whatever"

She goes into the pantry. And goes like "why arent you using this peanut butter? You started on this one!" (We have 2 containers for peanut butter) I said "I dont like creamy, i like the ones with peanuts in it"

She says "NO! You eat this one" Hows a growing boy supposed to eat???

Ill be honest, she bought it. But she buys it, then its like.. practically for the whole family. Plus I didn't know she bought it. She could of said it was just for her and for Dennis then I would of understand.

She also badmouths me in the car ride "NO! Youll break it". Gosh all I was doing was adjusting the things that blow out hot air towards me. But its her car, whatever.

She also calls me "dummy, and yadda yadda i dont remember but it annoyed me" going like "why you doing this? you are in highschool!" and badmouths me. And When I try to defend myself. She just says "be quiet! be quiet"

edit:(I may have gone overboard with her calling me dumb and stuff, she has said it before but it was practically rarely)

theres a difference from back-talking, and defending myself. I wasn't raising my voice. I was just calmly telling her that she was wrong on soem areas. But shes like "be quiet be quiet" it just annoys me so much!

it really annoys me. the thing is she isn't fluent in english, and im not fluent in korean. And suggestions on this? What to do? I don't hate her, but times she just annoys me! I just try to block her out at times. And it works. I should try that more

hit her in the head with a bible.

 kidding

My suggestion is either learn to live with her and ignore her to the best of your ability or try and talk to her or our parents

First of all, I'll pray for you Mr. SP and second talk to your parents. I don't care if she's a guest or whatever, no person has the right to call you "dumb" and various other names. That's just wrong and you need to bring this up to your mom and dad. I also thought Nia-chan brought up some very good points, other than the punching her part. XD

All in all, you need to respect your parents and this older woman. I'd say learning to get along and a lot of prayer will work wonders. Sometimes your attitude being adjusted to make up for someone who obviously has a bad attitude, will change your own perspective of them to the point that maybe they will even be changed a little.

I have some other observations, but you can pm me if you'd like to know what I think.

I hope it works out. ^____^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

First of all she's 35 and shouldb be more mature and not try to talk you down...and she lives in your parent's home. I don't think what kind of peanut butter you eat is a real big issue for her to call you "dumb" or whatever. Just tell her to get over small stuff like that.

Umm...no. Not really, no. You should respect her, however there comes a point where her opinion doesn't really matter. Eat whatever peanut butter you want. It is your peanut butter, isn't it?

Well, to be ABSOLUTELY sure, buy a can of peanut butter and put your name in it. ^_^ That would make it YOUR P.B. and no-one else's. XD

WAY off topic, but just so you know...

Thanks a lot, Mr. SP (sarcasm).

Now I have the "My Buddy" theme song stuck in my head. :shady:

And you probably don't get that, because I'm old.

I like creamy, so I have no idea what your problem is.

J/K

I've heard of "this sort of thing" happening when some one changes cultures. People generally develop a different personality for each different language/culture they exist in. It could be she's struggling to define her English personality and is having a hard time expressing herself in a language and culture that is so foreign to her. This could lead to frustration and bad tempers on her part. Trying to understand her situation will help you deal with her more annoying aspects. Talking about your feelings on the matter would help as well with both your cousin and your parents.

Of course, this assumes she isn’t intentionally being angry and disagreeable, which I pray is the case.
