rogie_san wrote:I experienced the same thing when I started college. I also commute, and after the first year, I was really bored with the whole thing. There was nothing to keep me connected to it besides my classes, and I was not making many friends beyond those from high school who had decided to attend the same college.
What really changed me, however, was when I joined the newspaper staff and got actively involved with it. I began to make friends, I got to know all kinds of people (including future teachers), and I just began to feel like I was really in college. I do nothing else but newspaper work and my classes to this day, but that one extracurricular activity got me motivated again. I'm now the editor of the paper, and I love going to school each day just because some of the time I'm there is spent working with the paper.
What I'm saying, therefore, is that you should try and find some extracurricular activity that interests you and that you can get involved in. You'll make friends, and if you really like it, you'll look forward to school just to do that activity for a little while. Colleges tend to have all kinds of different activities you can participate in that you never hear of unless you research it. A campus ministry is a good one to look for, and you'll find some Christian friends, no less! Ask around and find something, and I think you'll find yourself enjoying college much more.
I'll pray for you!

Stop commuting and live on campus.
Every commuter is like that basically. You're not going to make as many friends commuting to school every day than you could if you lived on campus (or even off campus).
I've seen it a lot here too, since my college is a big commuter school. The answer is simple really.

rogie_san wrote:The problem with that, Chichiri, is that some people cannot afford to live on campus, and/or it may not make sense to live on campus if you live within 30 minutes of the campus (I'm describing my situation there). So it's not quite that simple.

That's not always possible, though. Living on campus is an additional cost and some people just can't afford it (when I went to university, I lived at home and commuted a half hour each way). Also, there's no guarantee that being on campus will make things any better, just more probable.
I think the suggestion about finding a local fellowship is a good one. When I started going to Campus Crusade my senior year, I couldn't believe I hadn't gone there sooner. There were many commuter students there in the same boat.

Not a single freind. Alone in my room for hours on end, programing alone. On the othe hand... When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. I've got Lots of VideoGames to keep me entertained + now I can play online since we've got High speed cable internet.
Just look for soemthing to do, I know it's hard but God will find a buddy for you. Better to have 1 true freind than to have a million fake ones. I'm patiently awaiting my freind and when the time comes we shall spend much time together and socialize and all that good junk.
You know, like Play video games, order pizza, the works.
I just began my spring semester at college today. Ever since the first semester, I've felt that this college wasn't the right one for me. This was mainly because of my own lack of connection with the campus itself. I'm a commuter, so I show up for classes and then promptly leave after they're done. I only know a few people on the campus itself, and this lack of a social life has naturally had its effect on me.
Plus, if you commute and live 30 minutes away, it's a big hassle.
Lady Arianrod wrote:Yeah, that's the same with my situation... I live 25 minutes from my college and the residence fee is over 8,500 dollars per year.

While I'm not completely discouraged, I do feel alone quite often. I haven't been praying as much or reading the Bible at all... My faith isn't dead, but it's just not a strong force in my life.
