Member leaving

Postby Ashley » Sun Jun 15, 2003 9:40 am

Well, it's finally happened. The first member on the new forums to be punished has left us for good. But, I feel you guys--our members--deserve an explanation of what happened.

It began on the NGE review thread, and what was once a generally agreeable disagreement turned into an ugly personal attack on both myself and other administrators. We dealt with it as per our policy: addressment on the boards first, then move to Private Messages/Emails/Chats, and finally, suspension. Brian was talked with personally, and then banned for a week, but before that time was up he told me personally he was leaving. So be it.

The main reason he was suspended was for a lack of common courtesy; you just don't flame and attack people on any board, much less a Christian one. You can read Shatterheart and my responses; I believe we were more than fair in our replies. On a secular board he would have probably been banned permanently, no questions asked.

Of course I am sorry to see him leave, but we will carry on as we always have, and continue to grow as God blesses us. If anyone has any questions as to what happens, I will be more than glad to answer them.

Unless I'm on the wrong thread, I think Shatterheart edited out all of the posts in question. So actually, we can't go back and see what was said.

Overall, I don't think that matters. We don't really need to hear about arguements.

I agree with your decision, though it was a tough one. Thanks for being a responsible administration!

Note, this wasn't moved to the comment box for you guys to commentate on our performance; but apparhently it was giving us a bad rap being on the front page. But, you can still ask questions or what not about the "case", that won't change.

I feel for you Ashley, this is the hardest part of running a Christian site, I had it happen a few months ago on Anime Angels. It's never pretty, and so hard to handle, it sounds like you all did wonderfully though, considering the circumstances.

Having member problems is something I hate too...its never any fun. When a member either has to leave or when they want to leave...no "happy feelings" ever come. The member we were talking about however, has decided they would like back...and is back in the fold....which I think is great. I like to think that rather then hide behind the title of manager and banning like a nazi...its better to deal with cases case to case and more human like. When managers start banning rather then try to deal with an issue....its very trying on everyone. And nothing good is gained. Anyway, keep the Fayth...I mean...Faith all.
