Ive seen the History Channel (TV14) editions. I've only seen the first episode on DVD. After we saw that, my dad said I'd have to wait and see them on regular cable.

I'll reccomend the History Channel version to anybody, but I don't know if I should tell them to buy the DVDs.

How are the versions any different? What one's more historically accurate than the other?

History Channel: TV14, No f-word

I had to mortage the house I live in (confidentially since it belongs to my parents) to buy myself the DVD disc-set and I have to say that it is without a doubt one of the best stories filmed, EVER, wether on TV, animation, live action of Motion-Picture format. It is THE BEST. Each episode can stand alone as an individual short as well as a whole production when watched in sequence.

I'm also reading the non-fiction book by Stephen A Ambrose. Although it goes more into detail on the campaigns and the historical backgrounds, about the characters it tells the reader very little that has not been shown in the mini-series, which shows you just how well it has been adapted. I love "Band of Brothers". I would recommend it to everybody.

And yes, too much "F" word. The TV series also omits the fact that Col. Winters is a Christian, albeit it not a Quaker. ;)

Count me in as another who really enjoyed this series. I could watch it over and over again. The way each chapter focused on a different character was great. It was action-packed, thought provoking, compassionate, and deep. You instantly fall in love with all the characters and their stories.

I just loved ‘Spear’s Charge’ (towards the end of Bastogne). I could feel my adrenaline pumping, it was the kind of scene that inspires you to ‘fight on’, even though you are safely in your living room.

My favorite parts were definitely the interviews with the actual soldier. They were so similar to the people who played them it was scary. (But cool)

Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

You think that they wouldn't have mind using the f word on the History Channel, since they let them say the lord's name in vain in it.

Well in the eyes of the general populace saying God's name in anger and yelling f*ck are on two different levels.

And yes Band of Brothers is the best series to ever come out of HBO. While I got alotta respect for the 101st boys my great uncle is an 82nd all the way.;)

I like Band of Brothers. I just wish it that it didn't use the God's name in anger in it.

Then again, this was war and they are trying to make the look and feel of it real. So, that is how I look at it and watch it.

I agree that it was one of the best WWII movie (if you can call it that) ever made.

IMO: The best WWII show was the 2 hour story that was on the History Channel, called the last Mission!

I really liked what I saw of it. And Jamie Bamber who played the medic did an excellent job- heck, they all did! I only wish I could have seen all of it. >sigh< However, my reenactor friends tell me that it is merely a ploy to boost prices of airbourne kit and that the next Spielberg movie is going to be about the Marines for the same reason. Personally I say 'Whatever' to that, because my WWII impression is going to be Russian, supposedly the cheapest- oh, besides partisan. That's ridiculously easy. Anyway, awesome series, I highly recommend it. Oh, and btw, I've yet to be in such dangerous situations, but in the dangerous situations I have been in, I've been surprised and ashamed at the words that came out of my mouth. Sometimes 'darn' isn't enough to express your surprise/dismay. But at least thus far in recent memory, I haven't profaned God's holy name. It's one of the things that bug me a lot.

Kingpin and I watched the first episode a little while ago. It was really good. It was one of those shows that made you know a little how it must of felt to be in the war.

Yes I know that... People tend say vulgar things when someone's trying to kill them.

I supose if one was in the middle of a battle field, you'd hear much worse then what is in Band of Brothers.

It's every bit as good as Saving Privet Ryan- which is one of the best movies ever. My dad got the enire thing in a tin case back when we celebrated Christmas. That day, he had a BoB marathon...

my father and I have yet to get the series....Winters is by far the best character...either him or Spears.

One episode that freaked me out was when the war ended and people were still dying cause of drnk soldiers. It was about that one wierd guy who killed people who didnt give him gas. Then he shot that guy in the head who survived. That kinda disturbed me but hey, that's war for ya.

I have read before and I 100% agree that generation who fought in WWII was the last great generation and a generation such as that one will never see again.

We're burning some of the Hist. Chan. episodes to DVD today!

Finanaly, after about 1-1/2 months of them sitting there, taking up room, with those annoying Ben Fanklinn commercials.
