Unngghhh I really haven't put much thought into this, but now I have. I really like to draw anime characters and even make my own anime-style comic. I know how bad and unnessecary fanservice is, but I'm ashamed to admit I put an instance of fanservice in my own comic!! :shake: It's pretty mild compared to some of the other stuff out there, but it's still there. There's one scene in which my male protagonist unwittingly save one of my female characters from a barrage of machine gun fire. Basically, she says that she's very grateful and owes him her life. My other male character(not the one who saved her.) Gets all excited and starts to have a fantasy. In it, she is wearing a leotard(pretty much like a one-piece swimsuit) and she comes in and tells him that his pizza is ready(no sexual referance, as I said earlier, it's pretty mild) he throws his wrench on the ground and when she bends over to pick it up, he looks down her outfit. Then the fantasy ends and he gets slapped on the head. I put a lot of effort into this scene. I just guess I put it there because I knew that some of my friends would get a kick out of it. But I think that maybe I should get rid of it. I would hate it if my parents wanted to read it and I would be all like, "ummm... ugghhh :red: "
The big difference between an anime and my comic is that an anime reflects the directirs while my comic reflects me. If this was in an anime, it probably wouldn't bother me or my parents( mom at least) because we realize that I'm old enough to take some of that. But in a comic it's coming straight from me. It's reflecting my personality and I would hate for my parents to think that anime has had a negative influence on me. I guess I should take out of my comic, but would I have to throw it away? I mean I put a lot of effort into the artwork and I kinda' don't wanna just waste it. It's not like looking at it gives me lustful thoughts or anything like that, but still... If I should throw it away then that is that. I 'spose I shouldn't have too much trouble of getting rid of somethin if it displeases the Lord. Please give your thoughts on this.

Shame on you! Jk! JK! But if you feel convicted about it then yeah, take it out.

Hey ya know what I thought would be cool someday? To write a Gundam-like manga only Christian! umm sorry just my ramblin'

Thanks! I 'spose I will get rid of it.

BTW I can see that you're a Gundam fan. Rock on!! I am too. Wing is my fav. but the original rocks too. Though my comic is not really Christain, I definitely plan to place some Christain values in it. It is an old-fashioned Good-vs.-Evil tale after all. The heroes are noble and the villains are vile.

Anyway, gues I'll get rid of it.

I think you should definitely get rid of it, the thought of having sexual reference in a Christian Manga just does not belong. This is just my opinion.

I agree with those above me: If it makes you uncomfortable then you should ditch it.

I would like to ask a different question, though. Why does it make you uncomfortable? From reading your post, it seems you're uneasy with it because you're afraid your parents will find it and that they won't approve. I understand this "fear", and I admire you for wanting to do what your parents would have you do while you're under their roof. But I'd like to just say that you might want to think through how you feel about this issue. Sooner than you think, you won't have your parents standards as a gauge for your behavior. It'll be you and God. Everyday I'm coming to realize more and more that the things I do need to be from my own convictions-- not those that are laid out parentally.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do what your parents would want. In this situation, I think you know you should toss it out. Do that, but, when you're done, try to think what you would have done if you knew they didn't care. Part of growing us is deciding what your convictions are and thinking carefully about how they're going to effect your life.

Okay-- I'm done. [/twocents]
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

First, what you described sounds like fanservice to me since it doesn't contribute anything to the original storyline except informing everyone that your male character has fantasies (which your readers probably don't need to know anyway).

Secondly, you are correct. What you draw reflects what goes on in your mind. You reveal much about yourself in drawings. Now, if you want to draw Christian manga, I suppose you want to reflect who God is, rather than who you are, right? You have to take the extra responsibility to keep your mind as holy as possible. Is this a daily effort? You bet. Join the club. Let's constantly guard our hearts and minds against any fanservice.

me. It's reflecting my personality and I would hate for my parents to think that anime has had a negative influence on me.

I would be more worried of what God thinks, rather than my parents. If even half the world worried themselves about what God thought of their actions, I bet there'll be a lot more happy parents out there.

I have torn up and thrown away many of my old artworks. Lucky for me, that was probably 5-10% of my total artworks. It was very difficult at first but have faith, God will bless you when you make the right choice. Follow Him and you'll be drawing way greater things than the junk you sacrificed.

Just some additional thoughts:

A little seed can grow into a tree. So does a little thought/piece of art. If you don't kill it, right now, you'll giving it a chance to grow. You don't want to wait until it becomes out of your control. One of the favourite tactic of temptation is "Aww, it's something small, it's not a big deal." I speak from personal experience.

Think about it, if I keep drawing unholy stuff using a God-given talent, the Giver has every right to remove the talent. To be more specific, if God so desires, he can have me lose my physical hand and I would have deserved it since I provided the excuse for it. God loves us yes, but don't test God in His Holiness. <--- this conviction hellps to keep me in humility and discipline my mind and hand.

This is a part of learning to surrender your drawing talent to God. Hope you make the right choice.

Thanks everbady! No worries. I just got rid of it. I'll probably replace the void with something a little more harmless( like something goofy or having to do with food.)
Sorry for posting something as trivial as this. It was just bugging me.
I'll probably show it to my parents in the near future, though I'm not anywhere near finished. Well, thanks anyway.

I find the idea of him imagining her in a stupid outfit and then saying "Your pizza is ready" kinda funny.

I like what Skynes said. Just replace it with something unrelated to fan service. Have her dress up as a polar bear...or maybe his mom...

I'm glad you have the maturtiy though to know what is bad and actually take the initative to take it out. My current manga is basicaly Love Hina minus the extreme fan service however I find myself focusing the humor around a fan servicey scene. So I then tend to throw in something totally random which turns out to be more funny than the fan service humor.

Good work. :thumb:

Personally, I wouldn't put that in one of my manga, but if it did happen I wouldn't have a good character do it...like if it's a really bad, idiotic character or something with no respect, I wouldn't think it was that offensive, but I'm also a female, so it wouldn't seem like I was thinking like that.

Fanservice should always be avoided though.
(I'm working on a manga called Thunder Epic......it's fun... )
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!
