Job change???

Postby Ashley » Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:33 am

Hi everyone,

I know I don't post here often, but I just got a call to line up a job interview with another company. I didn't even think they'd call me back because I told them up front I'm a full-time college student and they wanted someone full time. One of the secretaries called today to try to set up an appointment. I don't know what to do! While I love my current job (some days more than others, granted) this is an opportunity for the field I'm going in to....so I'm really torn. Please pray that as I pray over this situation, God would give me guidance, reassurance, peace and direction. Simply, if it isn't God's will that I wouldn't take it and it wouldn't work out. I appriciate it in advance.

You got it Ash. It can't hurt to do the interview - it cold be a good learning experience in the future. It could be that they want you to go full time even though you told them you didn't want to. (Companies are notoriously bad at hearing things they don't want to hear). Anyway, I pray things work out for the best and that you understand what "the best" is.

Sometimes we are at our jobs too long you can't imagine yourself anywhere else. It's kind of like the comfort zone we are placed in. When I worked at a grocery store I put in an application to another place and got hired. Then I was thinking... "should I leave, is it my time?" or I got the feelings like I may not know what I'm doing. THen I decided, it was time for me to move on. I was there for almost 3 yrs, worked myself up pretty high, but it's not like this was my career. So I left. THen like 3 weeks later, my old store started to cut everyone hours drastically--worse then where I'm at now.

Later I got an interview at Blockbuster and an organic food store and got offered the job. I turned it down because after thinking about it, it wasn't for me. Not that I felt "too good for it," but sometimes we need to make decision that will help advance ourselves or put us in the better postion to pursue our future plans and careers. THese jobs didn't provide that. Sometimes it's best to step back and analyze what's in front of us. You will know deep down if it's the right choice or not, just look past the "comfort zone" we make for ourselves. Don't make the decision based on how your current employer, friends or parents may feel, but whether or not you feel it's the right move to make.

Best of luck. I'll be praying.

You're going into graphic design, right? What type of job is this that you're trying for (i.e., more specific description)?

Anyway, I'll pray, Ash.

Rogie_san, it's listed as an entry level graphic artist position at a company here in town. They do logo design, letterheads, company/church shirts, hats--stuff like that. And yes, my current major is graphic communications.

I will sure pray. Aren't we lucky to have the Lord's discernment when it comes to these things? Even though we don't deserve it, God wants to give us more responsibilities as we grow in His grace. I pray that God would give you His discernment and place you where He wants you to be and prepare you for what He wants you to do.
