Anyone gonna see the new matrix

Postby Bobtheduck » Wed Oct 01, 2003 4:12 am

Well, the first matrix was hailed by many as "God's message" well not necissarily but that was pretty close to the sentiment... I never really bought that, and felt after watching Reloaded that many people would change their minds.. I know at least 1 who has...

I loved the matrix, and I sorta liked reloaded, but the Zion scene, though completely unnecissary, did not "ruin" the movie for me like some people i know. I will still be watching "Revolutions" despite the second movie taking a more, um, non-family-friendly place than the first. However, I didn't really view it as "God speaking through non-Christian directors" so I am not as shocked as some people I had talked to. It is an interesting story and I'm not going to just cut it off and not finish it... I'm going to learn how it ends. If I don't buy reloaded/revolutions, that will be decided when I see the last one, but I will be seeing it.

I havent seen 2 yet (being in Japan and all) but 3 comes out the day after I get back. MIght have to watch 2 very fast.

The story is ok, it could take a turn for the worse or for the best, the action scenes rock though. Kinda like "the 13th floor" with action.

I'll definately be seeing it. I'd like to think I'm old enough to handle what hollywood can throw at me dirty scene wise and just ignore it.

Oh, and as far as the "God's message through non-Christian directors"...I've said this before. All that is is Christians liking a particular movie (as in, oo, that's cool!),drawing some vague/sketchy parallels and then claiming an allegory. All it does is give Christians a bad name and, more dangerously, give others a twisted view of Christianity. Because more often than not, it's a flawed allegory because it was never meant to be one in the first place. An allegory has a specific symbolism that is consistent throughout the entire story. So saying Neo is Christ and then seeing "Christ" sleep with Trinity, well, you've completely thrown out the example. But some people believe you can just pick and chose scenes, throw them together, and voila. Allegory. Message. Whatever you want to call it.Then people get upset when the "message" is "corrupted" by Zion scenes or what have you. In reality, the Wachowski brothers have said over and over they wanted elements from a variety of ideaologies (i.e. religions), so you're bound to see Christian allusions, but they'll be right alongside Buddhist and Hindu and whatever else.

I liked the Matrix all right (mostly because it reminded me of a live-action anime) save the fanservice and gratuitous philosobabble. I too, do not understand why everyone's getting so excited about drawing Christian analogies in it...did anyone other than me pick up the MULTIPLE refrences to Buddhism? And if there can be a parallel to Christianity, it's only Gnostic Christianity (which I believe is some sort of deviant sect...) and it's waaaaay outshadowed by all the new-agey junk.

A very very good essay on all the religious parallels in the movies can be found here: http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/rl_cmp/new_phil_wakeup.html

Sure..And then there'r movie that are giving a bad name to, let see...
African, Arabs, Russian politics, French...OK about relgions now, Voodoo has this bad reputation for witchcraft. I've a friend who been doing some research on it for her religion class...And well it isn't as spooky as the media shows. It a good religion like any other. As a christian, I believe that there's no religion which is better than the other. The media, specially Hollywood (it has a strong influence on people), has this steriotypes on cultures they don't understant (or if they do, it's just some sort of boycotting). And many people fall under the spell. I think people who are aware of this should talk about it. This will remove the negatif effect of stereotypes.

And as for the Matrix. I've seen the second on so far. It isn't bad, but the first one was definitely the best:thumb: . I can't wait for the third!! Right now I wish I put my hand on Animematrix

Probally not when it first comes out, but maybe ill go like a week after with some friends and see it. I thought the 2nd one was kinda bad, due to it had a very weak plot and depended on the first movie's plot to work. I have the animatrix, and i like all the eps except the last one on the DVD, i dont like the animator and its too wierd

I never see a movie when it first comes out, unless someone invites me. I will, however, see the movie. Due to the fact that I'm not interested in waiting until a DVD or VHS is made, I'll have to see it in a theater.

But, as is obvious, I will see it. I very much enjoyed the first two movies, and I love their fight coreographer. By this point, I am somewhat involved with the plot, so I'm interested in what is going to happen. And to see more of Seraph.

In regard to everything Christian: It'd be very hard to shock me with anything, though it'd be a shame to see yet another scene like the Zion one. So while I can't approve of this, I'll not watch and view the parts that matter to me.

Also, I think making any sort of religious connotations (with Christianity, anyway) would not be a good idea. Ashley took my words. Nothing else to say.

This is amusing, though. In Reloaded with Agent Smith's liscene plate is visible, it reads a verse that refers to the "smith who has come to destroy." Just a minor funny thing.

I'll probably see it. I honestly can't see the film as being specifically Christian, especially given the heavy gnostic overtones of the first movie. Granted, the storyline reflects an eschatological imagination, although this is not a specifically Chrisitian idea. In any event, the party scene did have a point after all, even if one thinks it was done hamhandedly.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

What's everyone think of the lesser infamous "chocolate cake scene" I think this scene established the Frenchman's character as manipulative and drunk on power. But I know some people who were greatly offended by that scene.

i'll be there at the first showing... midnight i guess. ;) i was a huge fan of the first one, saw it at least 7 times in the theater. the second really couldn't keep it as intense to me, but i still liked it and i am gonna finish the story.
(Man i would love to learn everything if i got it in a few min. after jacking in. thats my favorite idea of the "matrix world." easy learning. ;))

Yeah... Unfortunately, before matrix came out I wrote in my story a similar thing, only the learning was temporary. For instance, "climbing" was a chip that this guy would put in to be an expert climber, but he'd lose it when he traded the chip out.

The only problem is taht people will see it and think "Matrix rip off"

And, they are likely to say rip off of

1. LotR
2. Star Wars
3. Several Anime
4. Some thing I've never even watched or read but is similar to what I'm writing...

I'm not a hack, i swear! I do have somewhat original ideas, but there is nothing new under the sun... I had to be inspired by something, it just turns out that I've been inspired by a lot of things...

Hmm... First I will say that I was sorely disappointed in the Matrix Reloaded. Not just because of the gratuitous sex scene, but also the gratuitous fight scene -- the one where Neo fights Agents Smith for....ev.....er...... It just dragged on and on. Yeah, the fighting was cool, but after a while they (the choreographers) were just showing off, and it began to bore me. The whole movie was sadly inferior to the first one. I guess my expectations were too high, because I liked the first one so much.

The chocolate cake scene didn't bother me, since there was a point to it. The Zion/Neo/Trinity scene was unnecessary though. Waaaaaay too much fanservice there... and not for this fan.

But... I'll probably see Revolutions. Not in the theater, unless it gets much better reviews from my friends than Reloaded did.

I have a fourteen-year-old son - YEAH, I'm seein' it! He'll drag me and the hubby along. Then, we'll have to take all the friends and he'll want to go for his birthday. Needless to say, we're sci-fi nerds at this house. :dizzy: Oh yeah, and my daughter wants to see it too, as well as, the new release of Alien. Ooooo... it's so great.

And, I don't read that much into the movie and just enjoy it. Maybe because I'm not very deep, or maybe it's because... (read in Matrix slo-mo) it's a movie.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I'll see it, although it better be *darn* good.

I forgave Reloaded for some of its sins because, strictly speaking, it's just half of a much larger film. Nevertheless, this means Revolutions better be the best movie I have ever seen now or ever, because it has an awful lot of loose ends to tie up. I suspect I'll be disappointed, but I'll see it anyhow :)

I had no real problem with said chocolate cake. As has been stated, it got a point across about the <insert real name of the M guy here.>

What really disappointed me about the Neo vs Agents Smith fighting scene was the continual slowing down of the action. I can deal with a lot of action, because I enjoy the artform, but in my opinion that ruined the scene.

Yeah, I will see it... I was Dissappointed with Reloaded at first... But that was until Neo met the Architect... Then it got good.

Anyway, I'm not offended by the Zion scene... I thought it was stupid, but if you take an Anthropology class, it teaches you to ignore nudity very, very quickly. ;) As far as the Chocolate Cake Scene... It had a point, but I think it could have been done... more tastefully?

The student becomes the teacher... Such is life! [_spoiler="Text on Spoiler Button"] then you put stuff in here what you want to hide. If you say something with apostrophes in them, youve gotta cut them out otherwise the button wont work (Ive learned my lesson the hard way and still forget occasionally... you can use something else instead of quotes like >>>this<<<[_/spoiler] just with no underscores. Make sure nothing you write has quotes or apostrophes. (that would be " and ' respectively) so be very careful of things like she's or they've or Bob's.

Example (hit reply to see what I did in case you still need more)

Hmm... I didn't... I didn't even close my eyes. However, I would say watch it again and FF through or close your eyes in that scene then... Though it is rather long... If you see it at the theater, just go get some candy or something. After that point the movie is pretty nice, though not quite as plot heavy as the first matrix... Ok, so it was quite thin on plot. However, what i liked was that the Oracle was dymystified, which had always bugged me about the first movie. You really need to see the thing with the Architect. I think you can avoid that scene if you want to watch it... Well, on second thought if you don't want to watch it, don't... I'm just saying that you can avoid that one scene if that's all that bugged you. Stand outside of the theater in earshot of it and just wait for the beat to stop. When the music stops, the other stuff stops (at least I think) so then you can watch the rest of it.

Whenever it comes out on DVD, I'm sure that scene will be skippable. So if you have access to one, that could work pretty well.

On a side note, that drumbeat is really annoying. Especially when you aren't watching.
