Electronic/Techno music recommendations?

Postby Ichigo_89 » Mon Jan 10, 2005 4:53 pm

I need some recommendations for cool techno music. The only CDs I have that are close to this genre are:

Toonami-Deep Space Bass
Animatrix OST
GITS:stand alone complex OST

I really like drum & bass and stuff like the GITS:SAC opening theme song, but I don't really know where to start in the vast sea of electronic music. HELP!!!

Anything by DJ Sandstorm or DJ Tiesto is really good. I'm not a big techno guy but the stuff I've heard from them is really good.

Right. I know how you feel cause I love that stuff but can't give you any specific artists but try some songs out from these mainstream artists;

Daft Punk
Moby
Cowboy Bebop Remixes, Music for Freelance (thats an ablum with bebop songs remixed, GOLD)
The Chemical Brothers (try the song; Hoops)

They are kinda mainstream, I would recommend going to the Library and listening to a couple of compelation CDs either by The Ministry of Music (or is that sound, can't remember)and other ones. There are heaps of different artists and styles so the best way to get into it is to listen to some compelation CDs and the songs you like, look at the artist and then listen to one of his/her albums and go from there.

It also depends if you want chill out music, jazzy stuff, Rob D - Clubbed to Death stuff (matrix), or hard struting music ie. Moby-Mortal Kombat.

Oh and another artist I've just heard of is; Mouse on Mars. But I haven't had a chance to listen to any of their stuff yet, maybe you can let me know what you think :)

Prodigal Sons is a Christian techno group. You might also try Exodus, by Andy Hunter; he's a Christian, so it's clean, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the CD. Metro One is Prodigal Sons' label, so it is possible that some of the other Metro One artists or groups are techno, but I don't know for sure since I'm not very familiar with the label.

hmm....not sure if this counts or if others have mentioned? but have you heard Echoing Green? I don't know ALOT by them, but I like what I've heard.

ooh..and as to what you already own, is the Stand Alone Complex CD good? I love the opening theme for that show.

Well, I don't know much about good CD's (since I download most of my music off the internet), but there are a lot of bands I like. Electronic/Techno/Dance is almost the only stuff I listen to. If you like to download songs from the internet, Dogpile Audio Search (at http://www.dogpile.com) has done wonders for me. But you would need the name of a song or band you like.

Here are some bands I like. I hope this helps.

4 Strings
Darude
DJ Tiesto
Eiffel 65
Ian Van Dahl
Iio
Kreo
Lasgo

ULTRABEAT
My favorite band.
Very techno.
Very Christian.
I think they have 3 CD's right now. (I have 3 anyway)
Ultrabeat CD's:
Beyond the Stars
Trip to a Planet Called Heaven
Shine Through My Life

Andy Hunter also excellent, but I'm sure you know that if you've got it.
