User Rating System

Postby Godly Paladin » Thu Jan 06, 2005 9:25 am

I thought it would be interesting if users could rate other users (similar to the Christian Forum's blessing system) with "kudos" or something. That way people who are highly active can get a bit of recognition for their efforts. Just a thought, obviously.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea. I second that opinion.

I'm confused... couldn't it end up as a popularity contest?

I'm not so sure it's a good idea. Like Lehn said, it could become a popularity contest -- and we don't want anyone to think of themselves as any better or worse than anyone else. I advise caution concerning this.

Hmm...Now that I really think about it, you guys are correct. It would become a contest for popularity. Thank you for pointing it out to me.

kudos to felix for abandoning pride and admitting he was wrong!! XD

(Personally i think that handing out kudos or put-ups are cool as long as they are encouraging.)

I believe this discussion has ended itself quite nicely. For the sake of organization, I will point out that the administration's position is very similar to the concerns that have been expressed in this thread, and we feel that user ratings would ultimately not benefit these forums.

Interesting to see it so summarily and quickly trounced...

Actually I had thought of popularity when I put this up, but I did anyway because it works well on other sites in order to seperate people who give junk advice from people who know what they're talking about. I guess that's unnecessary because CAA has good members. I apologize for troubling you.

If you want to rate "highly active", just pull up a user's profile. It gives posts/day.

Actually, Godly Paladin, the staff considered the issue ourselves some time ago, so there is no need to apologize. Meanwhile, however...

This issue is basically decided; I would suggest that further discussion would not benefit us greatly (if at all). Unless someone has something key to add to the discussion, this thread should probably not be in much use.

Volt wrote:Ashley would have the highest rating, followed by either UC or OldPhil... I don't know, but it is defintaly a popularity contest. Users who actually put thought into their opinion would no doubt get disagreed with and have the lowest vote.

Does that imply that Ashley/UC/OldPhil do not put thought into their opinions? (I would imagine you do not mean that, but as it is stated...)

I am very sorry I worded it like that, I can only stay on for a while seeing how classes start, and so in between classes I rush over here and check out anything new.

I agree with ya volt. The admins and mods whould automatically get higher scores. And if they didn't they could always edit the scores ]<irrelevant example clipped my agasfas :thumb:>[/i]

That's why I don't think the rating system would be fair. It's a popularity contest that would only hurt others feelings.

You just expressed your opinion, agasfas; I think this shall have to be dealt with harshly.

I think that you make a good point that it would largely be a popularity contest. Keep in mind, however, that in real life people with greater charisma (or who are generally respected) can also get away with a great deal more, so this is to be expected. On the subject, I would hope that no one deems it necessary to argue about the example used.

And for the record, neither was I; I am merely pedantic.

No I agree, I was just pointing out how some with more charisma can get away with more while someone like me wouldn't. By no means was I saying it the people were good or bad... just an example of how the user rating system wouldn't be totally fair or how it may make people feel bad, nothing more. Sorry if my example (which was clipped by me) didn't really connect w/ the main point. My apologies.

Dealt with harshly? Think I should run for the hills.... *duck and hides* <.< II >.>

At least CAA wont be implying th rating system :P
