Countdown until MGS3

Postby Bobtheduck » Sun Nov 14, 2004 9:02 pm

5 days... Yeah, I know, I'm just jumping on the countdown bandwagon, so sue me...

Anyhow... MG has always been about the lone infiltrator... What is this CC about online play? Gah... That upsets me to a degree impossible to portray with the allowance of language that I am given to prevent offense.

However, it doesn't appear the single player game is compromised... Yay! I can't wait... I hope my friend is done with kingdom hearts soon, so I can send it back... Either that, or just send back DDR ultimate or whatever it was called... Man, I wanted to unlock some more stuff... I got addicted to that Silent Hill 4 song, too... Your rain.

Anyhow, I can't wait to play as Big Boss, even with the "you may not want to play after the first (15?) minutes" warning...

I wonder if this is going to be the last real MG game... Hmm... I think it would be cool if that were the case. I mean, why is it that game series never really end?

Anyhow, just a few more days.

If they'd tie everything together, then I'd be very, very happy, and I'd be able to live with this being the last game. I want to know about the La li lu le lo and The Patriots and whatnot. Bottom line, though, this game WILL rock.

I just got it today and I can already say it is indeed much cooler than even the demo version could make it out to be. As for that "first 15 minutes" warning, I think I know what it refers to, but just wait a bit, cause Kojima-san's just yanking our chains. You'll see what I mean when you play it. ^_~ I'm not sure about online play (I've barely scratched the surface of it yet), but I think you can download new camo outfits.

I thought there would be an "I got MGS3" thread by now, but I guess you are all probably still playing it.

Please tell; how goes the saga of Snake?
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Oh, is it good? I have to wait till after Christmas to play this game, and even that's after my dad beating it. :waah!:

I heard they already licenced MGS4, but that's just what I heard.

Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! It's a bit more action-oriented than the others - for me, at least. Largely due to the fact that you don't have the Soliton radar system this time around, because in 1964 it hadn't been invented yet. There are anti-personnel sonar and motion detector devices, but they don't help much. So I've gotten into a few more scrapes as a result. Of course, this does not in any way make the game any less awesome.

I found that this game requires much more sneaking than usual, sometimes a little tedious as you switch between first and third person frequently to look around (as you don't have a radar). It's also harder to evade enemies once you've been detected, and enemy soldiers have a longer spotting range, but that largely depends on your camo stealth gauge. However, it has a great story, memorable characters, and much longer than previous MGS games I think. Must buy for MGS fans.

I am 10 hours in now....(lol only started playing last night too...can we say obsessed?) This game is amazing. Seeing the origins of certain characters really brings the whole story full circle. I won't spoil anything...but I am very impressed with the gameplay and new weapons...the game all around rocks. However...I will be very disapointed if this is the final Metal Gear. Those who beat MG2...know there are some very large issues we need explained. Olga issue, Lalelulaylo....Patriots....But anyway...I will probably do a review of the game when I am done...which could be as soon as tomorrow...at the rate im going.

Obsessed? Perhaps. But hey, I'm right there with ya. It's a tough game to put down. I know what you're talking about with MGS2 though. Snake's part needed some closure between the time he dives in after MG Ray and the time he meets Raiden on the street.

Well I just beat the game tonight....took me a little over 14 hours total. So, it was a bit longer then the first 2 for Sony. I won't spoil anything for anyone...but pay attention during the final cinemas...they will jam your brain full of answers so fast its gonna make your head spin. And much kudos on the design of the final few battles. Very very exciting and well done. But I will say this. The end of the series? Heck no. They made a few more questions to be answered in a possible MG4.

I played alot of it but stopped to give Metroid Prime 2 some attention...it's a LOT better than the convoluted plot of Metal Gear 2, plus no whiny Raiden. I dig the survival view and little quirks like having to heal yourself, eating and camoflouge --it adds an extra layer of strategy.

I also heard it is a much longer game than the last two MGS games.

Oh my word... I just beat it... I'm gonna have a hard time saying what my favorite game is now... Silent Hill 2 or MGS3... MGS3 is so epic, so grand... SH2 is so targeted, so poignant... Well, since it's fresh in my mind, I guess that's going to be MGS3...

I have to admit, my gaming skills are crap right now... I was getting so frustrated on Normal, I couldn't do anything... I finally gave up and played it on Very Easy... I really need to practice, but that's rather hard with my hands in the condition they are in... It was about halfway through the game that I started to get into the story. It seemed too much like the babble that often passes for deep thought in some anime, but it really fixed itself at the end... That was very impressive. I was thinking I was going to be really disappointed for most of the game, but I was very pleasantly surprised...

There is very little not to like with this game, but there is some not to like... The controls got frustrating, for instance... In efforts, I'm assuming, to fix the colision detection, mobility is lessened. You often get stuck when crawling along walls. Also, the need to get up twice to get out of a crawl caused me MUCH heartache. I loved the second aim thing with the L1 button, that made shooting a whole lot easier, particularly with the sniper rifle.

I personally felt this made a very good END to the series. If they do anything, I want to see a remake of Metal Gear and MG2:Solid Snake. While the stories may have been sumarized(sp??) in MGS, that isn't quite the same as living it out... Of course, since everyone knows who big boss is, and a lot of the twists and turns are rehashed in MGS, it may not have much of an effect... Oh well...

I'm getting better at working without the Soliton. Those other items are more useful than I originally gave them credit for. Right now I'm at the boss fight with The End. I'm sure I could beat him if I could only FIND HIM! Rrrgh.... Oh well.

Thermal goggles, my friend... That, and good use of the map and your camo... Crawl, and stake out the sniping spots...
Another thing you can do is save, and quit and wait a week... When you play again, he'll be dead from old age...
Um... THere is something I didn't realize until I read some stuff on other boards... Why did they have to do this again?
Volgin is Bi, and Raikov is his lover?! Geez... I wonder if there's a pattern... Then, snake says he's affraid of Vampires... Vamp was also Bi, and his "other" lover was Scott Dolph... Is there some sort of theme?
That was one thing I didn't need...

I have to say, this game really earned its M rating... It's not gory (MGS and MGS2 beat it in that respect) but it is much more disturbing than MGS and a bit more disturbing even than MGS2...

Does anyone know if that conversation with Johnny Sasaki actually happens in the game, and if it does, how do you pull it off?

I hope to one this game soon, but I may wait until after a re-release happens for the X-box, and then finally comes to the PS2 (I'm not bitter because I don't have any friends, quite the opposite)

Well, I beat The End. Actually, the thermal goggles didn't do me a whole lotta good. What really helped (aside from the map) was the D Mic. You can hear him rustling around or snoring.
Now, before this turns into a 2-way conversation, someone else have a go.

Hmm...I can never seem to shut up about MG3. As for the controls...while yes there are slight bugs...they are so far head and shoulders above all other MG games...I was not bothered by them in the least. As for the Raikov thing...that was simply a big joke. Kojima was tossing a bone to all the Raiden haters. Nothing super deep to read into. Just a joke. As far as ending the series on this...I think that would be quite lame actaully. And I would lose a great deal of respect for Kojima if he did that. There are still far to many lingering questions from the end of MG2 to leave it open. The whole series points at a huge cycle.
My idea is, one snake one boss. At the end of MG2 there is no Boss...I am starting to think that Snake may break this cycle...since I don't see Raiden becoming Snake and killing Solid Snake. I also belive that Liquid through Ocelot will succede in flushing the patriots out...and destroying them. Thus altering everything. And "freeing" everyone from the unknown bonds they have living as puppets. I also belive that Olgas child will be the next Snake of sorts if they choose to do future games.
I felt the controls were awesome overall. While yeah they're probably the most complicated control scheme in any game on PS2 they still work extremely well.

And no I don't think the MGS series is over far from it. I know the guy taking over for Kojima as the Director is gonna have a heck of a hard time making a sequel to MGS 2 though. I mean they have to do something with that to tie it all in since MGS 2 has such a huge cliff hanger ending.

Remakes of Metal Gear 1 and 2 would be a cool thing. And wouldn't be too hard to improvise and play around with since they both were kinda skimpy on characters and story compared to the Solid series.

One of the only things that kinda bugged me about MGS 3 was that there wasn't too many references to Metal Gear 1 and 2. For example why was Metal Gear Rex mentioned but not the TX-55 or Metal Gear D models? Both of those came at least 15 or so years before Rex. And I was expecting see maybe Frank Jaegar aka Grey Fox somewhere in the game and how he joined up with Big Boss and Fox unit. Oh well it was probably because of the fact that it would confuse people too much to mention things to come in the first two Metal Gear games.

Well I'm not a huge Raiden hater like some people but I'll give you a couple reasons why I don't like him very much. He was so darn whiny half the game oh I'm a government plaything...oh I got a hot girlfriend but I treat her like crap...oh defusing these bombs is such hard work. Some of his dialogue was just ridiculous..."Yeah remember Rose we watched King Kong in your apartment." "Did you say a nerd?!" And he looked ridiculous I mean comeon a 20 something year old with straight snow white hair and a pretty boy face?! But the main reason why people don't like him is because he took the place of our beloved Solid Snake.

Kojima's excuse for that was to try to show just how much of a legend Snake was in the third person. Well...we already knew how much of a legend he was I mean they don't call him "The Legend" for nothing. I mean he didn't just infiltrate into three seperate fortresses, with three armies of heavily armed soldiers, while fighting three special forces units, while taking down two nuclear totting walking battletanks. Yes two unless you count the evil Windows 95 bluescreen in Metal Gear.

"He was so darn whiny half the game oh I'm a government plaything...oh I got a hot girlfriend but I treat her like crap...oh defusing these bombs is such hard work."

Now mind you, I haven't seen Raiden's dialogue in a long time, so I'm going off your examples. Being a government plaything...yeah, sounds like a pretty good reason to whine. Being a government super-infiltrator-dude is hard on the personal relationships, so yeah, that would cause stress. Defusing bombs IS hard work. If it wasn't, we wouldn't need to have a specially trained bomb squad.

"Some of his dialogue was just ridiculous..."Yeah remember Rose we watched King Kong in your apartment." "Did you say a nerd?!"

Sounds pretty real to me, after all, real life isn't scripted, leading to some ridiculous dialogue, especially in conversation with one's girlfriend. Believe me, I know.

"And he looked ridiculous I mean come on a 20 something year old with straight snow white hair and a pretty boy face?!"

This from an anime fan. Besides, the Metal Gear series is known for having some pretty "ridiculous" stuff...bipedal nuclear battletanks, conspiracy theories, walking around wearing cardborad boxes, a guy fighting an M1 abrams tank with hand grenades...and winning, a boss character who wields an Avenger cannon off of an A-10 Thunderbolt II, another boss who carries a railgun, a psychic boss, etc...

Mind you, I respect your right to think Raiden is a whiny dork, but I think he's a welcome break from all the "ooh look, I'm such a bad dude, I can kill without remorse, I'm so invincible" bit that is in nearly every game. Note that I understand Snake is a deeper character than that (thank God), but still.

Anyways, that's my reasoning. Your mileage may vary.

I won't touch the raiden hating or raiden defending except to say "Did you say nerd?" was the single worst line in all of those games... Much worse than "The truck have started to move" or "I feel asleep", hehe.

No, funny lines are things like "I hear it's amazing when the purple stuffed woman in flap-jaw space does a raw blink on hara kiri rock. I need scissors! 61!"

Now THAT was a good line.

"Did you say nerd" was just wrong...

Those freaky lines in MG2 were like mind shatteringly odd. That mixed with the fact that you are running around naked with ninja guards running around..I think I got a taste of what life in the 70s was like...all they needed was a spinning tye die pattern behind it...and like....music wiht awesome lyrics such as.

Bah Snake took being lied to like a man in every Metal Gear. He went out and killed the guy at least with Big Boss and Gray Fox. Comeon Raiden you work for Foxhound or at least you thought you did. You're just a grunt did you really think they were going to tell ya anything? But of course Raiden just went on to complain even more "What if none of this is real what if it's all in my head!" "What if Rose isn't real?!" Seriously I so wanted to slap him when he said that.

And yes we all know how hard it was to defuse those bombs in MGS2...yes I know real bombs would be much harder to defuse but regardless. Raiden wasn't even defusing the bombs in the first place he was only preventing an explosion from occuring.

There's a difference between Vulcan Raven, Metal Gears, The Ninja, etc. Those things are cool and at least somewhat believable. Raiden just looked ridiculous from the start. Comeon when a guy has to pat you down to tell whether you're a man or a woman that says quite a bit right there...
