Earthquake and Tidal Waves in Asia

Postby Mave » Sun Dec 26, 2004 9:55 pm

Hi all,

If you could pray for quick relief and safety of ppl in Asia affected by the tsunami/tidal waves, I'll greatly appreciate that. This natural disaster hits a little too close to home where I have family and friends (i.e Indonesia and Malaysia).

While the death toll in Malaysia is small as compared to Indonesia, I am quite worried coz my older brother lives in the Penang island that was affected the most in Malaysia (~50 ppl dead). Tremors were felt in the area of my own home but my parents are fine. This is quite awful; my home country has never been hit by this before and I have friends in Medan, Indonesia, which is terribly affected (~5,000 ppl dead). My brother is fine (just called home) but the situation of all affected areas is just nasty.

I feel really shocked and sad because this tragedy occurred during the worse times, the Christmas/New Year holidays and during fishing hours. The tourism industry in the countries is hit badly, affecting the economies.

In Sri Lanka, India and Thailand, the situation is probably far worse. Please pray for the situation there and that follow-up earthquakes do not occur. Thanks!

EDIT: My parents and brother: They're OK. But pls keep praying for Asia as a whole. Thanks!

Sure Mave. I'll be praying for them. Please let us know how your family and friends are when you hear.

I will definitely be praying for the situation and have been keeping a close eye on the news about it.

I was about to call you and see how you and your boyfriend's family had held up. I'm so thankful they are all right. ^__________^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

It's been horrifying watching the news and seeing the devastation. We can't even begin to understand what is going in those peoples lives. Lord of Healing we lift our prayers up to you today.

What a nightmare. I could hardly believe it when I saw it in the paper this morning. We should all be in prayer for the people affected.

I read an article in the paper about this. That's so terrible. I'll gladly pray, but I'm glad that your brother and parents are better.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

The situation is whole lot worse than I thought as I watch the death toll rise each hour due to unsanitary conditions (decomposing bodies in water and lack of food/basic necessities). Just watching the news is depressing. :( I'll add an additional prayer request to hopes that epidemics don't break out.

Thanks guys, your prayers are important!

I don't know anyone in malaysia, but I know someone who used to live there... Also in Thailand. Besides that, Southern India has been affected. I know someone in Andra Prakash, and I have some friends somewhere else in India, I'm not sure if they were affected...

Besides people we know, I read that it affected the Earth's rotation... That's not good no matter what...

I wanna go help... I don't know if I would be able to, though... I wonder if my base is sending anyone to one of the affected places... It would be a prime place to send the construction school graduates...

I've been praying as I read and watch updates in the news, and I'll certainly be continuing to do so.

I saw some of the devastation on the news...terrible. I'll pray for the dead and their families may they be comforted. And for the survivors may they be able to recover and continue their lives.

I have cried and cried over all of this death! The news said that if help doesn't get there, that the death may double from 60,000! So many people, gone and many not having a relationship with Jesus Christ! I have been and will continue to pray over this whole area. Did you know that the tsunamis also hit Eastern Africa? Luckily only a few died(ten, maybe less/more in the big cities), and some are missing. I personally have a place in my heart for that place in my heart and rejoice over that! I just have to find something good in all of this tragedy. The Lord IS Lord over all and maybe I think this will do something positive? Perhaps there will be a spiritual awakening in Asia. I pray that there will be, through the missionaries already there and all the help groups that are Christians. This makes you painfully aware of all those who need Jesus.

the deathtoll has climbed over 100000 now apparently... and now a real scare of Malaria and Malaria-vaccine shortage is expected already for 2005... The US has already donated about 35-40 million dollars to this which sounds like a lot in comparison to other countries, but I personally don't think it's enough... we are capable of donating much more than that... but we can offer more prayer, which is worth more than any number of dollars.

As for the earth's rotation thing... meh. it's changed by making the year like .000008 of a second shorter or something like that. Interesting yes, but I don't think anyone'll be affected.

what I find disturbing is how some people on the internet find this tragedy to be an excuse to sit around and whine about how God is unjust. it makes me sick. ¬¬
