A very merry Christmas from the CAA staff

Postby shooraijin » Wed Dec 22, 2004 8:25 pm

Based on an idea from Gypsy, we decided to release a Christmas card from the staff to the members ... but it's audio. We couldn't get everyone on it, but even the ones who aren't on it love ya just the same. :)

Now, a serious note: this file is 2.6MB, and too large for CAA itself to host, so we're mirroring it across several sites. Please respect the bandwidth of those who are hosting it by *downloading it* rather than trying to play it over the network (it's zipped to force you to do so), and if you have CAA friends on IM, feel free to pass it around from person to person so they don't have to download. If anyone wants to mirror it, please PM me with the URL and your geographical location. Thanks, done lecturing now ^^

Pick your closest host (please note that these locations are where the servers are, not necessarily where the people are  ):

http://www.the-difference.net/stuff/card.zip -- glitch1501, Karlsruhe, Germany
http://lorentztheory.com/caa/card.zip -- LorentzForce, South Korea

Have a very blessed Christmas, and a wonderful new 2005!

Some technical notes: this was done in GarageBand on the Mac. Not all of us had access to a nice microphone (in my case, I didn't have access to a place with good acoustics), so the audio quality varies, but we still hope you'll find it a blessing. The music is courtesy Gypsy; thanks! ^_^

Ah so cool! ^____^ Merry Christmas to you guys too!

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

Wow, that was really cool of you guys to do that for us and a really nice surprise! ^_^ (And Gypsy, that's a really nice arrangement of O Come, All Ye Faithful. :thumb: ) I had suggested to Ashley a few months ago about starting a thread or something where we could post samples of our voices, because I wanted to hear what you all sounded like; though she never did get back to me on it. I guess I got to hear some of you anyway. :)

Alas, the way our bandwidth and disk space usage has been, it probably wouldn't work out too well ... but this is a start. ^_^

Indeed, we're blessed to hear you guys are happy with it! I have to say it was really hard to think of something short but meaningful to say, but it was a blast to do.

Ashley, I never knew you sounded so... um American. That acent is so cool!

That's what Straylight said. I'll be curious to see how many people were expecting something more along the lines of Jesse the cowgirl from Toy Story...

No, not like Jesse. I was thinking more subtly american. I don't know what got me thinking that, maybe your avatar?

It took me a while to download over my poor modem connection, but it was worth the wait. My only disappointment is that I did not get to hear all of the staff. Regardless, it is very nice to put voices with those pictures of you.

I would also like to express my thanks to you for hosting this card on your sites and spending the time in creating it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

That rocked
Way cool guys. Neat and a great idea.

The most suprising one was Gypsy. She is so softspoken. Total not expecting that. Somehow all the other voices seemed like I would expect, and fit quite well with my deranged mental images. Was a bit suprised by Ashleys, but not as much as Gypsys. There be a brit in that there staff, lol.

Next year UC has to do it too ;) I am so curious as to what he sounds like :)

Anyway great idea and thanks it was cool :thumb:

All you super-steath-cloaking-toll-busting administrators and moderators have a great and totally bless Christmas. And that goes for all the CAA members as well.

Its the most wonderful time...of the year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I remember the first time I spoke to Ashley on the phone and I found it funny that she sounded *older* than I did. And doesn't she hide her accent well? Image

As for me being soft spoken, I shudder to imagine what you thought I would sound like.

And the idea was to have the entire staff say something, but it just didn't work out ... this year. ;) But I can tell you that all of us meant what we said, and the entire staff wishes you the best for the New Year. Merry Christmas, you guys! ^^

That was so wonderful! What a blessing to hear all of the staff members bearing the most important message of the season. :)

It was really neat you hear all of your voices; it was a bit of a wake up call for me. "Wow! These are really actual people!" Heheh. ^^ It was very cool.

Merry Christmas to all of you; and thank you for holding CAA together and being such awesome mods and staff members. The forum would not be what it is today without your leadership. In fact, it wouldn't be here today if it weren't for all of you!

Thanks again and God Bless you. =)

what was that strange little sound sequence thing right after Aaron//Lightbringer's part? =3

never knew you sounded so... um American. That acent is so cool!

Sounding so American... "That's us Texans for ya, I tell you what." :P. Now let me get on my horse and ride to the grocery store. JK
Though, oddly the people in Wisconsin like to joke around about my Texan accent. Oh well... :(

Anyways, the card was awesome. It's nice to hear how some of y'all sound like--a nice treat indeed. Also, the music in the background was a nice touch. I fully enjoyed each message y'all had to tell us for this upcoming year. Thank you all for the message.
*Thinks to himself*
Perhaps I should make my own.... nah, I have to muffle the microphone to make my voice sound somewhat tolerate. ^_^

Again, the card was awesome and I hope y'all have a great Christmas and New Year as well.

WOW!!! That was a GREAT gift for the staff to give us for Christmas. It was very, very nice and sweet and... gosh it was just awesome! Like someone said, it makes you feel like you know the people on it at a far more personal level.

If I had to pick the top best-sounding voices on the tape I'd say it was Ashley and Shatterheart. Straylight has an awesome accent!

The music was great too.. especially at the beginning right before Ash talks! So good job, Gypsy :thumb:

Thanks again and Merry Christmas, CAA Staff!
