Need help in FFII

Postby Nate » Sat Dec 18, 2004 5:39 pm

Okay, so I own Final Fantasy 1&2 Dawn of Souls for GBA, right? Well, I'm playing through FFII at the moment, and I have a difficult question. I've searched the net far and wide, and own the strategy guide, but I can't find anything that describes the spells in FFII.

Here's the problem. You can only hold 16 spells, right? Well, there are two spells that I have NO idea what they do, and I need to clear some space in Maria's spell list (she's my magic user).

Wall: The description says that it "Forms a magic wall, raising magic defense." However, Shell does the exact same thing, raises magic defense. So, is Wall more powerful than Shell? Should I dump Shell and just use Wall?

Barrier: "Raises a barrier to defend against special attacks." I'm confused. What are special attacks? So, does it not affect my defense stats at all, or what?

You'd THINK they'd have DECENT spell descriptions, but NO. So if someone could please help me figure out what these spells do, I'd appreciate it.

Kae, I'm going to take a look at my Final Fantasy Origins Strategy Guide to see if there's anything and I'll get back to you on that (though I can't promise anything). My suspicion, though, is that Wall may be a combination of Shell and Protect -- if memory serves me correctly.

Well, it looks like it helps a little bit, though not much. Here's what I came up with:

Shell vs. Wall
Shell claims to "boost magic defense", while Wall "boosts defense against black magic" which does almost sound like the same thing. In both cases, it says that the level-up effect results in "greater chance of success; increase in magic defense value." My guess is that because Wall is so much more expensive than Shell, it must be simply a more powerful version of Shell.

Barrier and special attacks
The level-up effect for Barrier is described as "accuracy and protection increase", which wasn't really much help at all. But I remember reading something somewhere in the FF1 section about special attacks and the evade stat being linked somehow, so my guess is that maybe Barrier raises the character's evade stat for a better chance of dodging these so-called special attacks.

*sigh* I hope that was some help; it was all I could come up with. ^_^;

Hmm...

Okay, thanks. I guess I'll dump Shell, then. I'm still not too sure about Barrier, though...oh well...

If i remember from final fantasy 4, wall reflected elemental black magic attacks, but could be eventually broken by physical attacks. Shell tends to raise more defense I think

And Barrier.... not exactally sure

wall reflects everything in most FF's. Wall can reflect white mage, black magic, or other kinds of magic (like red magic or the like). Though some magic that isn't white or black, can get through the wall. Depends.

Heck, even Bahamuts attacks could be reflected with wall.

I might be confusing reflect with wall. But i dont remember any reflect spell. Feel free to correct me.
