Baptism...

Postby Spencer » Sun Sep 07, 2003 5:16 pm

I'm kind of stuck in a bind right now, and I really don't know what to do about it. If you haven't guessed by the title, I haven't been baptised (sorry for the crummy spelling, my brain is fried) yet. I dunno if that's just a baptist thing, or if all denominations do it, but either way...I've been putting this off for awhile. I need to get it done, but it's kinda hard. Then my parents are pressuring me, when I dunno if I'm ready...Please pray for God to give me the courage to do what's right.

Thanks to all who pray.
:)

Sure thing!

Everyone's perspective on baptism as necessity differs, but as an external demonstration of your commitment to Christ, there are very few better ways.

I think most Christians see it as just a way to be identified with Christ, but not needed for salvation. (atleast thats my take and everyone i have personally talked with. :))
I pray that you in regards to this Spencer.

You should get baptised. But I will pray for you. I know it's a hard to make your mind up but I will pray that you make the right choice. All Denominations have different views on it like my denomination Belives you need it to be saved, most other denominations don't belive that but I look at what the Bible says You must be born of the water and of the spirit to enter the kingdom of God. But I hope I did not offend any one already, but it's also a way of making a commitment with God and leaving the Old man Behind and being washed from your sins and any sins in the future. It's just like showing God I want to serve you I'm all yours. But sorry If I have offended anyone please forgive me if I have, Because I'm only stating what the Bible says. But I will keep you in my Prayers Spencer.

it is a good thing, and i would recommend it. it is a good witness to people, but it is not needed for salvation according the bible. Maybe (a strong maybe) it was, during the transition or forming of the church, but no longer. just like i don't have to sacrifice lambs now. we are saved by grace and not works... even easy works like taking a swim.
it sure would be bad news for people who accept Christ on their deathbeds if works were needed.

Still i am all for it, for what it is- a great witness for Christ. A public statement of faith. We should not be ashamed. :thumb:

I've got to agree with what has already been said in this thread - it is a powerful witness and something that you will never regret, but I can also sympathize with your hesitation. What do you think the root of this is? As God to show you what is holding you back and pray for wisdom.

I will be praying for you.

Update:

Went to church today; we had a guest speaker. I wasn't expecting much since they are there a lot, but he really moved me with his words. It was amazing. Anyway, I felt that God was telling me to go whenever he invited us, so I did. It was...beyond words. I went to our preacher, and we prayed about it. This is like a weight off my shoulders. I'm not sure when I'll be baptised, but I'll be sure and tell you all when I do. I really appreciate the prayer.

no its not just a baptist thing my family most of it is baptist although i to have yet to take this step i feel it really isnt a must i feel you must simply accept christ as saviour and repent its just another way to repent really and or except christ at leasts thats how i feel. anyway not just baptists some others do as well not a bad thing to do i to still am in deciding i will pray for you and ask in return that you pray for me lets all pray for each other and others!
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
