Can anyone tell me why I keep hurting people?!

Postby Nightshade X » Wed Dec 08, 2004 2:30 pm

I'm suddenly having a lot of trouble controlling what I say and what I don't say. Recently, I met a girl and we became friends, in fact we got really close... but... I ended up not saying something to her that really needed to be said, which wasn't taken very well (I'm NOT going into it)... which led to even more stuff that didn't get said right and didn't get taken well... and, I'm afraid that because of what I said, I may have lost what could have been a wonderful friend. This isn't even the first time this has happened. I've been close to losing a lot of people in my life because of what comes out of my mouth, even because of what I don't say. I don't ever want to be that kind of person again... I don't want to lose her as a friend... I know that God wants me to watch what I say and to always speak the truth... but I don't know how to change my ways. I just don't know what to do... still, could you pray for this girl as well as for me?

EDIT: I can't type today... -_-

I know what you mean, I used to have a problem with that. When younger I didn't have a filter between my brain and mouth. Things always came out w/o evening thinking. I really had to train myself. It took a lot of patience and practice. First the results where slow, I would say what I was thinking but stopped myself in the middle. Even now, I still have stop myself right before something bad comes out. So now, I can usually catch myself before something bad comes out. But yeah, It happens. Also now, if I ever get some really hurtful news or whatever, I always just politly excuse myself (in person or email) then I take time (usually a few hours to day) to really contemplate and organize my thoughts and words I want to say. I hope y'all dont loose your friend. I don't know what you said, but it must have been hurtful. My advice, if you have not yet done so is to apologies. And try to explain it the way you wanted to w/o offending her. Recovery can take some time so be patient. I'll will pray for both of y'all.

Seems like you dug yourself a pit, and while you were trying to get out you just dug in deeper. I think the safest thing to do after saying something hurtful is to just apologize and ask if they can forget about it (assuming it was something you didn't really mean, or it just sounded bad) rather than trying to explain you're way out of it. I've done that myself a few times. I'll pray for you.
