heyhey, they still play!, and that "recommended" is still a decent computer, heck, many pc gamers out there have like

3 ghz processor

2 gigs of ram

like an ati radeon X800 XT 256 MB card, and thats like almsot 500 bucks there

i have a friend who has a computer that either IS or lower than the "minimun requirements" and he still practically worships the game

okay he doesn't, but he has tons of fun with it

ZiP wrote:Have you noticed that those are the MINIMUM system requirments?
Since when do games play great on those?

since valve MADE half-life 2 able to run on a bad computer, you notice many games nowadays ONLY run on directx9, such as like jedi academy, and such. Cause valve people are smart

There was a whole lot of hype surrounding the first Halo. I remember EGM saying how amazing the multiplayer was and that it would be the one to succeed Goldeneye in console multiplayer FPS. It also had a lot of hype because it was the Xbox's heavy hitter in the launch lineup.

Publishers and developers. Microsoft is not the developer. They're the publisher. Bungie and Valve are developers. Microsoft and Vivendi are the publishers. Both Bungie and Valve have proven their skill at developing and both Microsoft and Vivendi are loathed immensely.

cbwing0, I find the original Unreal Tournament and Giants: Citizen Kabuto to be a lot more fun than Halo. I'm just stating my opinon. And yes a game doesn't have to be original to be fun but the gaming industry does lack mountains of innovation these days. That is a fact. Games now more then ever seem to cater to the masses to make big bucks. I thought games were meant to be an art form. I guess in the sense that many are crap and there are some gems among them that is true to a certain extent. I'm not saying Halo is bad, the game is all right but when you've been spoilt be games like the Thief series, Age of Empires Series and Giants: not many games these days impress me.

warrior, play halflife 2! it's like art! (or i think so) because there seems to be detail in every little thing there is, and it's not a run and gun like many other first person shooters

Didn't cbwing say something about that earlier in this thread? Or maybe it was someone else on Guild of Redeemed Gamers.

*Has bad memory* :eh:

Anyway, whoever it was said that that's a POV held by a lot of gamers...that gaming should be like a secretive "only those who are in should know" type thing, and get disgusted when gaming becomes mainstream, such as in the case of Halo or GTA3.

Personally, I think it's a GOOD thing that games are becoming more mainstream. It makes them easier to find, for one thing. For another, it means companies are more willing to take chances on obscure games, such as Katarm...whatever the game is where the alien dude rolls around a ball and picks up stuff to build stars. If gaming wasn't as popular as it is BECAUSE of mainstream games, I doubt we would see this game on our store shelves here in America.

Oh, wait, Warrior doesn't live in America...D'OH!

Well, anyway, that's my take on it.

Anyway, Warrior, though NO ONE else seems to enjoy this game as much as me, if you want an excellent game with great attention to detail and a quick mind as well as a quick trigger finger, may I humbly suggest Metroid Prime 2 for Gamecube? As far as FPS's go, this one is TRULY great.

Yep, I'm an Aussie!
I wasn't saying games shouldn't go mainstream (did I really say that?). What I meant was there aren't many non-mainstream games that are of great quality that get the attention they deserve. And in masses I mean they seem to cater to 12 year olds and below even if the game is MA15+ or what have you.

I've heard great things about Metroid 2 and although I don't have a Gamecube I think I know someone who does and has the game - hopefully they do, I'll check it out.

Mr. Smarty Pants: Half-life 2 looks very good but I'm not into gore and blood so much. But the screenshots of the War of the World like tripods and the decrepiant cars and building environments look very interesting. If I find one of my friend's has it I'll play it.

OT, but Metroid Prime and MP2 are not FPSs. You're in first person, but the game plays more like a platformer than a shooter.

yes it plays more like a platformer, but it's still classified as a FPS

As far as replacing Goldeneye, it has. Goldeneye was the original ultra-popular console FPS, and now Halo is the undisputed holder of that title. I have had a subscription to EGM for many years, so I will look through my back-issues (yes, I still have all of them) to see exactly what EGM had to say about Halo.

Games are meant to be an art form (and I won't bother to point out that most "art" is imitation, except I just did  ) however they are also both a craft (from a developer's standpoint) and an entertainment medium. For that reason, the fact that Halo has excellent gameplay makes it an excellent game in my opinion. Of course that is not to say that Halo lacks any originality or artistic elements. The environments are quite detailed, and many of the single-player levels look quite good.

Ok, sorry. Out of Golden Eye and Halo, Golden Eye wins for me. Although Perfect Dark is better than both of them!

I used to play golden-eye with my friends all the time and I like Halo better now too. And Citizen Kabuto was fun but It had inferior world detail to both Halo games and I found it a little to corney for my serious gamer half, Though I did like to do the cannon ball on unsuspecting Smarty villages with Kabuto, but that is a completely different type of game so it doesn't really compare. Besides there is more to Halo than meets the eye loads of stuff you can discover if you have played earlier Bungie games. Halo 2 has tons of new weapons though I don't think they are as balanced as they were in the first one, I was using what I call the "mining beam" in a 1 on 1 multiplayer game and I found that this heavy gun did less damage than a pair of hand guns. The hand guns were even better than a machine gun or a shotgun too. I liked the original Halo handgun better though, reminded me of the old Marathon one, from which Halo bears many similarities.

By the way I have a Dual 1.8 GHz G5 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM and I prefer to play realistic FPS games on my computer, games like America's Army and such. But for my Xbox the game that made the Xbox is definitely Halo, and thats what I will play. I remember when Bungie was first talking about making Halo, even before Microsoft bought them out (which I still believe was a great atrocity to all mankind) The original game was supposed to be multiplayer only and take place over the whole Halo planetoid, things have changed but I still think it came out nicely.

I heard perfect dark was lame and only had a few different levels because you kept going back to the same places. I played it too and it was disapointing.

Now my favorite game makers hands down are Bungie then Blizzard. They just seem to be the best. I have played all their games from the very beginnning when they started. I remember Warcraft I, II, and III. Marathon, Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, Oni. Starcraft, and recently World of Warcraft. Those are games that were designed well in their time and still make a difference. Also one of the best strategy games was Myth II, simply put it that was one of those games that you can play for ten years before it became outdated. The WW II plug-ins added to the endless delight, and they were free!

Alright, having just voted for HL2, I must state my case: In-depth storyline. Just my preference, folks. No real argument. However, the list of improvements with Halo over Halo 2 sound like mostly cosmetic stuff. Having never played the original HL, I would have no idea how the two games compare.
Take it like you gave it; what else matters in the end? To be honest, it's all a one-shot test; that leaves plenty of places to go wrong, but how will you ever know? There's a pointer, I will admit. Turn it on, listen to it, feel it burn.

Don't forget that one of the features that is supposed to be part of the latest update to Live is that it supports the option for users to create new content for download via Live (I think the creation of the content will be done on Winodws based computers). Halo could see just as much add-on content as Half-life (though I somehow doubt it as much as the original Half-life was modded and converted for other games, only slightly less than the Unreal Tornament engine I think).
