Sorry about that CB, I must have missed that post.

So, what do you say? Do you want to give it a go? I would like to help fine-tune the game mechanics with you.

The grid idea almost seams like a necessity. Though, I would like to offer a motion that the grid be made in one inch blocks (or roughly the diameter or one mini) rather then 6â€

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

sounds good,

it would be awesome though probably impossible to get someone with some programming experience to actually be able to create some type of client where we could actually see the pieces and chat back and forth, i think that would be awesome lol

Games Workshop is a PLC, meaning they are 100% controlled by moron shareholder who care only for their back pockets and not for the players. The paint from the early 90s did NOT dry up, EVER. Paints today? less than a month and they're unusable. Plastic models 10yrs ago, tough as nails. Today? They snap like soggy paper....

The online game would be a good idea, but it would be shut down almost instantly, unless it was made like MTG Online were you BOUGHT the models online and were only useable online.

First of all, thanks for the input. Keep it coming and before you know it we will be playing online to our heart's content :thumb: .

kaji wrote:One other problem that comes to mind is the rule against measuring exacts (guess weapons wouldn’t really work well with this set up).
One possible solution to this problem is to take the exact distance, and then just roll an extra scatter dice to see represent whether or not the player guessed correctly. Alternatively, each play could roll a die. If the attacker rolls higher, then the "guess" is on target. If the defender rolls equal to or lower, then the "guess" is off. Whatever happens, guess weapons will necessitate some modifications to the game rules.

I agree that 1" squares would make a better base for the grid. That would definitely help when constructing the virtual terrain, measuring distance, etc.

Razgriz wrote: The only concern that I see is the fact of the GW coming and asking it to be taken down if it's public.
I can think of a number of ways around this:

1.Keep it simple-We could run into problems if there was some sort of working graphical interface. In this respect, I think that we should go with the simpler option of just having a grid drawing on which the players would report their deployment, moves, etc. Avoiding any graphical representations of the copyrighted miniatures would also go a long way towards making it permissible.

2.Keep it under wraps-If we keep the final system to a small group, there is less chance of GW ever finding out about it; and if they do find out, we can always just switch to an email system in which players would email their moves to each other (as well as anyone who wanted to "watch" the battle, if the players agreed to have spectators). I don't see any way that GW could touch that.

3.Don't post copyrighted material-I could see us getting into trouble if we started posting quotes and such from the rulebook/codices, so we should make it a rule that this cannot be done. Any rule discussion would have to be taken to Email or PMs. Perhaps there could be a referee for each game, and if there was a rules dispute, each player would email/PM their case to the referee. The referee would then make the final ruling by which the players would have to abide. This would also mean that players would have to actually own the rulebook and relevant codex/codices in order to play (or just pull unit stats from the free trial version of the official Army Builder software ;) ;) ); so no money out of GW's pocket there.

That should solve the legal issues (and thanks for pointing them out, Razgriz :) ). Keep the feedback coming :thumb: .

I second the idea for a Moderator for each battle. This person would be responsible for solving player discrepancies, and validating dubious actions.

I would be happy to, although I am afraid that it would have to wait until after Thanksgiving, since I will be away from a computer all day and night on Thanksgiving Day.

I have the 4th edition rulebook, but I haven't read it yet  . In the meantime, I suppose we can just use the 3rd edition rules (after all, it is just a beta test as this point).

For those weapons, place the template where you want it to hit and roll for scatter. If you don't have LOS (indirect fire), you scatter 2d6 instead of 1d6 and pick the highest.

I third the idea of a moderator, it would make it greatly easier, and we don't have to add in additional programming in for a "comp ref."

Quite a few things changed in the 4th edition rules, mostly detailed things (targeting priority, can shoot twice with pistol if you don't move, AP1 weapons; glancing count as penetrating on vehicles, etc) I'd highly recommend picking it up.

Cbwing, that's what I've been thinking too, keep it within this small group of people, and no prob, I want to see this work out as well.

Such a bummer. Given the little I actualy get to play 40k now, its probably not worth me buying.

*sigh*

Oh-well.

If you want a truly excellent Tyrant check out http://www.forgeworld.co.uk They have some truly awesome Nid models.

On the guess thing, that sucks... It makes hitting with basilisks too easy! The fun of a 120" range shot was making your guess then finding out your 20" short and landed the template on top of your command unit!

Have any of the 'older' gamers noticed that this new edition of 40K is getting more similar to 2nd Ed?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Eldar codex, especially with the "traits" to create your own Craftworlds. Also the rumored addition of a command level Exarch called the "Autarch." But the Eldar codex as a whole needs a major revamp.

I agree also with move back toward 2nd edition. I think the boost in power to the SM characters in the new codex is a very glaring example of that. Back in the 2nd edition days, independent characters were quite the powerhouses, and now the SM characters are just as so.

lol sure, i kinda keep putting it off
the battle was tyranid, chaos and chaos
vs
eldar and space marines

i would say that the tyranid chaos chaos forces won, the chaos pretty much wiped out my brothers bloodangels(he forgot his codex)
and noeleon(eldar) and myself(tyranid) had a great battle
we pretty much evend out in the end, but i think we both could agree that if he had not had some of his heroes, that he wouldnt have dont that much damage

it went great!
so i think for christmas im getting a lictor so far...not sure about anything else
