Weirdest Reason for Watching an Anime?

I watched Twin Spica because it has a guy that wears a giant fake lion head over his regular clothes (picture attached). I saw it and I was all, okay, I just have to see what's up with that!!!

I watch Pita-ten because it reminds me of the alternative of DiGi Charat. (most characters in DiGi wear white, where Pita characters wear black.) o.O

I soppose my first experience with real anime was gundam. I watched it because my brother (who ironicly hates anime) got me into the gundam action figures. I saw an advertisment for Gundam Wing on the back and decided to check it out.

I now blame the fact that I am an anime nut on a toy...and my brother.

I've watched a number of older, widely-known-to-be-less-than-good anime for the purpose of making fun of them while I watched (Yes, Mystery Science Theater 3000 has taken over my mind)

I've got a lot of weird reasons.

Magic Knight Rayearth: I downloaded the intro off Working Design's website and right after I watched it I said "I must see this anime" ^^ I think it was CLAMP calling to me. (this was before I was aware of their existance. the only other CLAMP series I knew about at the time was CCS)

His and Her Circumstances: Because Veronica Taylor plays the main character in the dub

Fushigi Yugi: My mom offered to buy me a DVD and I was looking around and saw the FY OVA box and was look "ooh, I'll try that". It was a total gamble.

Shamanic Princess: The box said "A must for CLAMP fans". I couldn't resist ^_^.

Ai Yori Aoshi: Because I liked the song in Pioneer's trailer. And it was on sale.

Sakura Diaries/Wars: I was really into CCS back then, and the "Sakura" in the titles drew me.

Memories: an awesome AMV with scenes from Magnetic Rose.

Love Hina: an AMV

Revolutionary Girl Utena: Rachel Lillis plays the main character in the dub, and everyone said it was really good.

I had to watch it or else my brother would beat me up. Not weird but mean.

Just kidding. The situation was in a way similar though.

weirdest reason...Actually I bought Princess Nine on ebay by mistake; I ment to bid for another product. But hey, it turned out to be pretty good series.

I bought my first GTO dvd because my brother suggested it; he didn't even know what it was about. That ended up to be good too. Plus the back description sounded interesting: 22yr old ex-biker who wants to become a teacher. Can't go wrong there :P

Hum, well I bought full moon wo sagashite simply because it was written by tanemura arina. I hadn't even read the manga, and I had no idea what it was about, but I fell in love with it.

Fruits Basket I saw only because Gypsy put it in a box with her dress she let me borrow with post it notes like "watch me!"

Cowboy Bebop the movie I bought because it was on sale. ^^;

I was on a gaming forum site and the discussion was about the steampunk genre. Someone mentioned that there was an anime called Last Exile that was very good steampunk. I love the genre and so I bought the first volume without knowing if it would be any good. I don't normally do this but since then I've bought two more volumes and now its my favourite anime! I'm hoping to get volume 4 and Return of the King Extended DVD for Christmas.

Well, a while back when A.S. showed their 'Anime Sunday Commercials' (yeah i kno, that's a reallllly long time ago) anyways, I saw some clips from Bebop and Yu Yu Hakusho and I was thinking "I'm never gonna watch that" and low and behold, here I am some fine summer evening and I end up watching Bebop and getting hooked.

I guess you could say it was a.... well coincidence rather than an odd reason. i dunno

Well, I started watching Inuyasha because I saw Sesshoumaru on a layout and I was like "... IS THAT HIS TAIL?!"
I started reading the FMA manga because I saw an advertisement for one of the games in a magazine and I said "Whoa, that guy's BUFF. And he's got a braid!!" It was love at first sight.
I started watching Shaman King because, well... I went to go watch it with my brother, to make fun of it. While the dub was horrible, I could see a good plot and story with it. So I starting collecting the manga, as the series is unavailable at this time.
I started reading Fruits basket because a couple of people told me to. The pressure got to me, lol.
I started reading Bleach, DNAngel, and Naruto because my friend told me to. Now I only read Bleach.
I watched Digimon because I was bored and wanted to poke fun at it.

I thought that watching FLCL would suddenly make me intellectual and avant garde if I "got it." I did, but it didn't.

FLCL. I saw the commercials and said to myself, "It can't be that strange." 6 episodes later, I said, "OK, it is that strange. And now I hate myself for picking it."

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't know about EVA (a show that'd be more worthy of their protests, IMHO) yet.

If you read those sites they make it sound like Sailor Moon is a Satanic plot to turn 10 year old American Girls into Satan Worshipping Lesbian Liberal Socialists.I mean give me a break. They also make Pokemon sound just as Evil.I think that people who think that way are sort a few marbles.

Heh. I remember reading one of those online articles that stated that Japan was a dark island trying to brainwash children to cast demons. :/ Now that is taking it too far.

My friend wrote her senior thesis on feminist themes in shojo anime or something like that, so she had to watch a lot of anime for that. It was research. ^__^

After having surgery, I was still in an anestesia(sp?) induced state.

After calling one friend and terrifying her with my bizarre state, I proceeded to call my brother to see where he was. I then acquired a brillliant idea!

"BRING ME GIRLY ANIME!"
"ummmm.....I'll get some from Edd when I come home"

Indeed, upon his arrival I laid in the recliner, still in a completely different world.

He hands me Kodocha.

I watch.

I am now obsessed.

Can anyone else here imagining watching Kodocha while working anestesia (it really bothers me that I can't spell this word) out of your system? Twas.....bizarre.

I only began to watch FMA because I had turned 18 and was desperate to watch SOMETHING from AS nowthat I was "of age". I actaully meant to watch Inuyasha, but I didn't like it and I thought MA was a mecha anime, which interested me.

My little sister's friend knew I'm an artist and requested a RuroKen fanart from me. I wasn't willing to do art from a show that I knew nothing about (I'd never heard of the show previously, and didn't know if it was clean or not :eyeroll: ). I watched a couple episodes with my sister, got hooked, and was sucked into the world of anime/manga.

They typically only hunt down the more "popular" ones, it seems. This would be why we've still heard so little opposition to the like of Inuyasha, FMA, NGE, etc.
