Should MelMak change his avatar?

Postby TheMelodyMaker » Sun Oct 24, 2004 7:42 pm

Are you all getting tired of my avatar yet? I've been using it since early last year, and I'm thinking of changing it -- though I wasn't planning to for a while yet. For those of you that don't know, my current avatar is the old obsolete 8-bit version of the heroine of my work-in-progress computer game The Traveller's Guide, Melody Rouge. I'd like to change it to her newer, more updated look -- but I wasn't originally going to until got a demo of the game released.

What do you all think? Should I wait until I release my demo (which is still a little ways down the road), or sooner? I can't decide, so I've started a poll that will last a week and will close the evening of October 31. Vote (and post if you like) and let me know what you all think! ^_^

And for those concerned about size, it won't be too much bigger than the one I'm using now -- my current one is 46*44 with 4 animation frames, and the new one will be 32*96 with 6 frames.

[Edit: If I do change it, I'll move the old one into my signature. That way those who still want to see it can, while getting something new at the same time. ^_^ ]

I know you by your avatar. Please don't change to anything too different.

I don't think you should change your avatar even when you -do- release your game. Commodore 64 forever.

It's old school man. Though it does mess w/ my eyes. So I don't know how to vote on this one. I guess I'm neutral.

I say change it. I think it's too expressionless for an avatar. An avatar should partly be a representation of yourself. I chose mine because the character represents all the qualities that I find very admirable in a person. I think a good avatar gives life to a post.

I still like your avatar there as your avatar. I scroll through a thread and look a little at the avatars, then I notice yours. I can't see you as any other avatar.

I agree with Shooby. While I learn to just look at the names of the people who change their avatars weekly *coughElric_kuncough*, when people who keep an avatar for a long time finally change, I get really thrown off. (I suppose if uc ever changed his avatar, the world would end for me...)

I personally recognise people by their Avatars so i get confused when someone changes theirs. Although it doesnt take me too long to get used to a new avatar . Change it if you want to. I'm sure everyone will get used to your new avatar given time. It's up to you.

MalMak should as MelMak wishes. I'm one of those people that recognizes people by there avatar. It took me several posts to figure out Shatter's new look. But, for those who change regularly, I get used to that as well. I even changed my avatar once, for a couple weeks.

I may change agian, but it will probably always have "termyt" in it, he's me, after all.

On anoterh note, I never noticed your current avatar has four frames in it. I always thought it was just two, but now I see there are four different frames. Well, three different frames, anyway. Tricky.

Good idea. Done! ^_^ (At least for now; now the question is where you'd like each version of her to go -- signature or profile.)

If it is just one more picture, then I would say try the sig and we'll see from there.

Well, the poll results are in and it looks like I'm changing my avatar to the new one. But those who frequent the other message boards that I go to will be glad to know that I'm keeping the old one on those boards. Thanks to all who gave their input! ^_^ (Also, I'm not putting the old one in my sig like I thought I would at first; it'll be less strain on my server logs that way.)

Edit: Apparently I'm not changing it -- the new one is 6 pixels too tall! So much for that idea...

I--I---I don't know!!!! I mean, your avatar now rocks. But I don't know what you're thinking of changing to. How about giving us some samples?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Can you somehow reduce the pixel image without loosing the quality of the pic? If it's 6 pixels, shouldn't affect your quality that drastically. I really want to see it though
