Quite a few people I know use Macs for everything but games - and have a spare PC for those few games they play.

I sat down and thought about it for a while, and made a decision to switch to the new macs, and then bought a playstation. It's just so much cheaper. If you can afford it, a new PC every year is a fun hobby, but it *does* get expensive after a while. My new(ish) mac will last me at least 5 years, and I don't have any random crashes or reboots. My mac cost about $2000 and the play station + games ran to about $500. Since I was upgrading to the fastest system I could by every 18 months (before I switched), I was dropping $800-$1000 each time. Cheap for one box, but added together, that's Hardware for the price of Hardware+OS+Games the other way. Throw in a new copy of windows each upgrade and the latest games, and my break even point shrinks to 3 years. I figure at that point, I can buy a PS III. ^.^

Boy was that a weird wandering post...

I have an eMac that works great. The only thing is I don't think it has a wireless card.

because apple does not them, therefore you would have to ask HP to fix them (if there is a problem) and hp is just bad at a lot of things.

Plus they sponsor Microsoft in a way

I say, don't buy HP anything...XD except maybe the printers, and I'm not even sure about that. :p

if I had 1500 dollars, I'd be typing to you from an Apple. and PC gaming? fft...I won't get into that. my boyfriend's already having to build a whole new PC just to keep up with gaming, and it's gonna cost a pretty penny. to me, console gaming is more economical (and you don't have to worry about "will my PS2 run this game...?"). at least it's only like $500 every four or five years to keep up with consoles.

this topic is so weird, lol.

Too bad the Sims 2 isn't on a console... it would have saved me about $300 that I had to spend on upping my computer. But, I do like Mirosoft's Windows more than Macintosh...

Macintosh.. >: (

You can have a virtual pc on your mac to play games. That is what my dad does.

I use Virtual PC on my Mac as well, but its game performance actually is pretty bad. It's much better for productivity applications. (As this thread is reasonably on-topic, I'm going to move it *out* of Goof-Off into Computing for now.)

...and remember - Virtual PC 7 will be the ONLY virtual PC that will run on a G5. NO OTHER ONES WILL!!!!

I really dispise that M$ bought and shelved it. They are planning to release the G5 version "...in later summer or early fall of 2003."

It's like windows 95, er 96, er the one that works? That'd be osr2, and it'll be out in 98.

As for HP, their printers are good, but expensive. Their PCs are worthless and their iPods, well, I can't say anything about them.

BTW sunako: If you want to bash apple, be prepaired for a fight, here. Most of the computer nerds on CAA *like* apple. If you would like to "step outside..."

Um, VPC7 is out, actually.

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc

It only comes with XP, but Knowledgeable People(tm) state that you can still install other OSes on it. However, the VPC Additions components aren't available for anything else but XP.

I'm pretty much staying with Connectix VPC6, myself. There's not much difference other than the G5 support and some modest at best speed improvements, and VPC6 does include VPC Additions for other versions of Windows (I run 98, 2000 and XP side by side, along with RH Linux 9).

Huh. They actually released it earlier this month when I wasn't looking... I'll be.

Let me see if I can find some academic pricing on that guy now. Wmuhuhahahahaha.

Edit: For $80.00 you can get an upgrade, provided you have a licensed version also installed. That makes me really look closely at this one. I'd be able to play call to power on my mac... Since there's a mac version out there somewhere, it's not *that* big a deal, but, you know...

I don't know how to use Macs... whenever I go to my friends house and get online, they have to do everything for me XD

Actually, I did have a Mac when I was about 5; it was my parent's first color computer and I remember them drooling over it (not literally). "Carrie, look at this!! It's color! And we're getting 'electronic mail,' too!" XD

Just felt like sharing my Mac story...

What? Windows are more confusing to me. I got one over Christmas, and it took me a while to adjust.(it was a shared present, don't worry) The only reason my parents didn't get a Mac was the price. I used to have one, but it sorta became useless. It is about as old as I am. That's why.
But my dad, the head, has an apple powerbook. That is all that counts^_^
I could play my Age of Empires on it! My dad did correct me, saying what y'all have already said. Excuse my ignorance.
Does anyone here buy macaddict? My dad gets it a lot. I like the old issues which forcused more on games, but what can I say, I am a kid.
