Hi,
We have DSL through AOL on a verizn line. This is connected to a wireless family network thing. We also have AOL software. It rained Sunday through Wednesday if not part of early Thursday. Tuesday, the internet here stopped working.
I was able to get online through opra yesterday, and only while using opra, I had some success with internet explorer. Yesterday MSN messenger did not work.
Today, I can use opra, internet explorer at least while using opra, AIM, Yahoo! messenger, and MSN messenger. AOL still does not work. Opra shows a connection speed on my computer of 2.8 Kb/s. Now it shows up to 6. something kb/s. Internet explorer seems to be speeding up a little. Late this morning, opra was closing on my mom.
The wireless symbol on my computer has given the appearance of internet all along. It shows Speed 11.0 Mbps, signal strength good, status connected.
Mom saw a news article about bugs on the internet. I thing she said it was on yahoo. Yahoo did not recognize my mom's password to let her sign on to yahoo to check her mail. Her computer is only recognizing that there is a dial-up modem.
Thoughts?

There is some kind of windows firewall or something on each of the computers that should be turned off and zone alarm is not set to block the programs.

is what I usually use...As for you problem, I'm nervous to suggest anything because it really doesn't seem to point to any given thing. If you aren't experiencing random pop-ups, it's not spyware. It *could* be a virus, I guess; if you don't have anti-virus software, it's worth getting for peace of mind alone.
My first impression is that there is a problem with AOL somehow, but I really don't know much other than that. Do you have any computers that are connected via a regular network cable, and can you at least verify that you have the same problems that way? It would get the wireless card out of the mix, at least.
