iPod troubles

okay, i disconnected the usb cord out of my laptop when ti said "don't disconnect" or whatever. Now whenever i try to turn my ipod on, i get this folder with an exclamation mark on it. Websites told me to do a system restore. But i can't seem to beable to. My ipod also keeps makign this weird "whirring" and "crrrkkkinnngg" grinding noise inside. Any way on how to restore it?

other notes: i can reset it, but it doesn't help. Goes back to that whirring and that "!" folder.

Yikes. Are you under warrenty? Sounds to me like your fried something. Have you tried letting the battery run all the way out? Sometimes that will clear the flash and let you re-format it.

hmmm, exactally how do i let the battery run out? That sounds like a possibility. Do I just leave it off (err, sleeping) for like a month or something?

That would work, or you could leave it *on* - which might run the battery down faster. Although if that wirrrr sounds like it's damaging the ipod, I wouldn't recommend that option...

the thing is is that it shuts off by itself, unless i press a button ever 10 seconds, that wouldn't work too well

Oh, but Mr. SmartyPants, how could you not want to give your fingers a work-out?! I mean... a button pressed every 10 seconds... you'll build a lot of thumb muscles!!!! XDDD

Okay, um... ::is serious now:: Yeah, that just might work. System restores usually help me with all my computing glitches, but, uh.. it's not working for you.. Gah, that's so horrible!!!

what operating system are you running, if its windows xp try the safely remove hardware icon on your start bar (the icon of a small keyboard and a green arrow) while its plugged in, that might fix it. Its one of those things that are usually reccomended for USB devices (but if something has happened to the hardware then it might not work)

it's not that. It's the ipod itself. Not becasue it's conneted to the usb/firewire cable. And attempting to disconnect it safely doesn't work either.

I called hp, becasue apple is being mean to my hp ipod (im so stupid, but supporting HP) so they'ye all like "we'll send you a bok for you to ship back your ipod to us and we'll try to fix it" and that goodys. Im sure it'll work becasue i believe it's a corrupted harddrive.
