Car Accidents

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Sat Oct 09, 2004 10:02 pm

When my and my sister were driving to my dad's store, where were tons and tons of police cars and ambulances and stuff in front of his store (around early this afternoon) I got scared that by dad was injured or something. But it turns out it was a car accident. It was crazy! I mean there was this white car that actualyl FLIPPED over and was resting on it's hood. It was crazy! Well, that's all. Scared me though. So many car accidents in this world. Hmm, but i heard that the driver was somehow okay! Which is really good. Um... there wasn't much of a point to this thread. But I wanted to share you what happened today.

Gah, that's always a scary feeling. When you either think someone you care about has been in a car accident, and even worse, when they have been.... Glad you're all safe, though.

Oh, wow. I almost had an accident today. I thought of making a thread about it. 18 inches short of hitting a car on a short peice of road between on and off ramps of a highway on a street where people drive 50 mph in the middle lane. So I was accelorating to to speed limit and I accidentally got up to 3 miles over, this one car pulled in front of me from the left. Then in front of that car, another car moved over from the right. The car in front of me had to slow down a lot for it. I slammed on the breaks when I saw this, and the car I was driving went from 53 mph to 0 mph about a foot and a half from the car in front of me. That was close. The car that moved over from the right (the second car in front of me) moved over again to the left like nothing had happened, never mind the fact that he almost caused an accident.

A couple of weeks ago, an SUV driver killed a police officer a couple of blocks from my home. The SUV spead up because he got a yellow light and he crashed right into a motorcycle officer, killing him.

Recently, an SUV was waiting to turn while my mom was driving. The SUV hadn't been waiting more than a moment, but couldn't wait just a minute or two longer for my mom to pass and turned left right in front of my mom like she was trying to have and accident.

My dad was driving somewhere and there was this bigrig truck that pulled into the intersection the otherway driving through a red light for him and a green light for my dad. As soon as the light for my dad turned green and my dad didn't immediately go, the driver behind my dad started honking his horn like he wanted my dad to go already. It wasn't a long wait, but if my dad had, he could be dead by now.

Honestly, I have kind of a threatened view of other drivers. I expect them to be irritable and impatient, especially if they are the ones right behind me.

The near accident today got me thingking about drivers and when happened with my parents and the officer make me think that Christians should try to be good witnesses in how they drive too, especially if they have any kind of Christian marking on their car. It would have been poor witness if one of the SUVs had a Chrstian bumper sticker or the car behind my dad had a Christian license plate frame. There are such crazy and impatient drivers out there, and honestly, they scare me sometimes.

The number of accidents I have run on in my time in the fire department are so many to count. Some fender benders to where is the rest of the car and the person has insurancitious to I hope we find the rest of them.
Just yesterday on my way home from shopping I heard on my radio scanner a motorcycle accident somewhere in the area ahead of me but the location was not clear. Units were running in different directions trying to find it. I come to the traffic light and the traffic was backed up and then I see the state trooper on the side. I pulled up behind him and there are the people who were onthe cycle. I walked up and the woman was sitting on the ground with a small firstaid kit working on herself for a small cut. I asked if she was OK and she said yes. One of the officers from the fire department I know was there in his FD car he told what units to stay and go in service. I left it up to the ambulance that came up after I showed up and left. I have comeup on alot accidents many times while not on duty on this highway.
This highway where this accident happen just had a deadly accident just a few weeks ago at 5 AM in the morning.
A woman's car ran out of gas in the fast lane and she couldn't get it off the road. She left it walked a mile to a gas staion where after she got there heard a big boom.
A taxi cab came up on the car at high speed and swered across the median to avoid the car ran head on into a large dump truck which caused the truck to across the median hit a lunch truck with propane tanks on it and 2 cars pinning 1 car under the dump truck. The propane tanks on the lunch truck went off setting the four vehicles on fire killing 3 and injuring 2.
The whole incident was captured on a surveillance camera which was shown on the news.
The fire department got bad press in the paper because the reporter took a bystander's word about the time it took the fire dept to get there and put out the fire. Said it took 20 minutes when it might have been 5 minutes for the first units in and additional units requested to arrive 5 to 7 after.

Amen. Driving's a part of life like anything else and there's no excuse for road rage among anyone, but particularly Christians. :brow: It's not cool when someone proudly wearing the fish on their car is flipping birds out of the window or, like you said, being impatient in traffic to the point that it almost causes accidents. If people would just chill out on the road, then accidents would probably decrease.

As for me, I can't add any accident stories that have happened in my two years of driving, thank God. The worst that's ever happened to me was this one time when it was dark and I was backing out of the little parking space dad set up for me and I ended up backing the side of my car into one of the thick wires that hold up telephone poles. o_o Let's just say, if it was Car vs. Telephone Pole Wire, Telephone Pole Wire body slammed the car and then made rude marks about my car's mother. I now have this ugly looking dent in the side of my car. It's great.

Wow! I'm glad everyone's okay!

I almost got in one last year. My dad, mom, and I were driving out of state and we were on a bridge when a car hit the median strip and flew up into the air. It almost landed on us. Luckily my dad accelerated the car and sped out from underneath it and got away just in time. :wow!: We called the police on the cell phone, but I don't know what happened to the driver... :(

And my mom went through a windshield once...cars can be somewhat scary... :o

Car accidents are terribly frightening. >.< I remember one time, my friend and I were driving home from a concert, and we saw a gigantic car accident - cars overturned, off the road, into the center divider, and worst of all, blood and something that made my friend scream "ohmigosh, don't look!" Worst part is, it happened literally SECONDS before we reached that stretch of road. There were no police or fire department vehicles in sight, and boy were we praising God for keeping us safe. I'm glad everyone here has come out of similar experiences a-okay.

In the past three or four years, my mother has been in about....four accidents, I believe. She's a very good driver. So far, all the people who have hit here were young, teenager-ish boys. It's really scary. Image

Iguess you could say it was calling for me to be The Good Samaritan, the one to help those in danger or need aid or comfort.
My interest started with befriending a boy in my elementary class who's family had been volunteer fire fighters with the same department for years.
We form a group with other friends to be fire buffs or fire engine chasers.
Then when we were old enough, 16 to 18 we joined the local department.
Took the classes, learn from the others, appointed or voted into positions.
Out of our little group I am still a member where the other moved on to other places where they are still involved in some way with the fire service or Emergency Medical Services.

I have been involved in a few minor accidents. Only one involved more then me. Rearended some woman in a 4 way intercection...she decided jacking on her breaks for a "car she saw" was a good idea. Last winter a guy with a huge plow on his truck ran me off the road...slammed down over an embankment. Thankfully the Lord dident have me hit any trees or anything. Burried my car in the snow between a tree and a town line post.

A campaign has started in the Washington DC area to get teenage drivers to drive safely because of the number of deadly accidents involving teenagers.
In one weekend 5 teenages were killed in separate accidents. Most of them because of driving too fast or racing. One involved alcohol.
Other accidents were because of not paying attention to their driving.

technically, the only vehical accidents that i have been in myself have been in school buses (tells you something about my main mode of transportation for 13 years of my life ^_^). once my speech team's bus, while heading home during an ice storm, turned onto an exit on the interstate, and the brakes locked because the exit was covered in black ice, and we did a 180 off the the road, taking out a reflector post - no one was hurt luckily. the second bus accident was on the way to school. we were stopped to let some kids on, and two vehicals rear ended us (hmm, easy to miss those big, yellow school buses ><).

drivers can be very scary - especially when you see someone next to you talking on a cell phone or putting on make up or eating or physically turning to talk/interact with someone else in the vehical - or any combination of those options.

that's very cool that you're a fire fighter ashfire. sadly, not all fire fighters are good at nor take their jobs seriously, as you do.
my high school had a tragedy my junior year - the local volunteer fire department allowed high schoolers to participate, and one of the girls who volunteered was killed. the adult driver of the rural fire truck was drunk, and turned the truck over as they went around a corner on a gravel road, killing the girl. the local department made national press and got into trouble because there was a bar inside, and drinks were available to volunteer fire fighters of the drinking age at any time. it was very, very sad.

Yeah, being in a car accident is scary.... I was in one several years ago. Some guy in a white car pushed the car I was in off the road, and we nearly flipped over. o.o; Never found out who it was either, he kept going. o_o;

Within the past days the number of teenagers being killed in traffic accidents in The Washington DC area in Maryland and Virginia is rising. This weekend a teenage driver and his girl friend died in a rollover accident, three when the car they were in broke a electric pole after which drugs and alcohol were discoveried and a football player was killed after leaving a game with teenage driver and passenger.

Love is that feeling you get when a girl looks at you and it feels like your driving a car at high speeds and experience a sudden drop. You know what i mean? That sudden sinking feeling you get in your stomach? Yeah, that's love. Leave's you speechless everytime.

This is a good place for a CAA PSA. For all the members that drive, or will be driving soon, please always pay attention. It's really easy to space out or look down to play with your cd player, and a few seconds of not watching the road is all it takes. Excercise common sense and pay attention to lights, lanes and signs.
