Sword Fighting Techniques

My sister and I are choreographing a sword fight and we'd like to find some web sites that have some tips on sword fighting. Anybody know of some?

"The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case." - Chuck Close[/color]

Okay, so I'm assuming we're talking eastern style fencing rather than western - Zorro or 3 Muskteers type stuff etc.?

More like medieval broadsword fighting, actually.

I'd suggest watching First Knight. Cinema fighting will look very different from any authentic moves you could come up with and that's what people expect to see in a staged sword fight. Do you have Soul Caliber 2? There's a few different sword styles in there that you could easily adapt to broadsword.

So ... do we get to see this sword fight? Are you making a video or is this for a play?

Making a video, actually. However, I don't exactly know if m'dear sis would want others to see it! ;-)

Thanks for the links, Galant.

I'd suggest using your search engine. I used it to find CAA! There are various search engines to try. Here are some I know of.

http://google.com
http://ixquick.com

If you use them but don't find what you really want, please forgive me.

Yeah, I found an interesting site called "sickindividual.com" that has some cool videos of swordfights in action and some tips on fighting as well. (DISCLAIMER: I haven't explored the site thoroughly so I can't say if there's objectionable stuff there. I haven't seen any so far, but be warned.)

i know of a site, i think its http://www.thehaca.com somethin' like that anyways, they are a site devoted to mideval hand to hand combat, but they also have sword techniques on there, i was able to copy some sword techniques for just excersize and attacking techniques, i'd also recommend watching braveheart if your going for big broadsword action, as in 5 ft claymores and that kind of thing, aside from that excalibur is good, if your into video games just pay attention to some of the moves that nightmare does in soul calibur 2, raphael would be a good example too, but he tends to go a lil' on the fencing side of things
