I've been known to mess around with Hexidecimal, but only after I have completely beaten a game. It doesn't seem fair to alter something that you haven't already enjoyed the proper way. On the subject, it can be very fun to create ultra-powered characters, especially in rpgs. Furthermore, playing Super Mario Brothers with permanent invincibility is at least somewhat amusing.

But it's pretty tough to do, unless you have an emulator, and most of those are still illegal.

I tried once to hack into my PC version of Final Fantasy 7 just to edit out the cursing, but that was a bust. Whenever I tried, for some reason the background music would change. (Imagine Cait Sith's theme playing inside the first Mako reactor. )

Here's my most popular hack:
http://www.flactem.com/index.php?action=ff8§ion=cheats

Gets a pretty decent number of downloads, too.

I also liked hacking Bards Tale, original CIV, Baulders Gate, Ultima Underworld, etc. Mostly the old games, as I don't have any newer ones any more. I don't hack my PS games, though.

My personal favorite, for Chrono Trigger:

You set attack variables to 9999, and the three party characters' HP to 999. That means everything deals insane damage, but your characters are effectively immortal because their HP is a constant 999.

Also, that means that Crono's Confuse attack deals a total of 39,996 damage, which is enough to kill any of the bosses immediately.

i hack into ps2, gamecube, and n64 games... i'm not good with pc games. lol. gameecube i hack ssbm, making all my characters (the ones i use) invincable so they don't gain percent damage, and they can all do 1 hit kill moves and fly around. wow it's fun ^_^

n64, since the system is old and really glitchy, makes it really easy to hack into anygame or find glitches or change stuff around.

ps2... i've only been able to hack an old game called suikoden III

I know you could do it in an emulator rather easily, but I'll give these guys the benefit of the doubt that they aren't doing anything illegal. ;)

I'd love to learn how to hack my PS2 games, but first I'd need to figure out how to access the memory cards...

I used to use a hack for Rainbow Six: Rouge Spear. I just haven't played that game for like a year.

I hack my games a bit... usually, though, it's to make them harder or less tedious. I prefer stuff with a programming language - I once made a teleportation rifle for Unreal Tournament. Yes, it was cool.

Right now, I'm trying to adjust to C# (not too hard) and learn RunUO scripting (hard)

Yeah, I did the ol' hex editing back in the day. Still do it, too.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Much like UC, I only like to hack my games after I have beaten them. I find it adds a nice replay value.

I think I had the most fun hacking my friends PC version of FF7. I used ‘GameHack’ which was pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I liked to give each character one outstanding trait. So all their other stats are normal, but I would double or triple one stat. Like Starting Aeris at Spirit =150, Cloud at 150 Dex, Berret with 150 Con, and Tifa with 150 Str.

We also hacked the game so we could have Sephiroth in our party, but this could cuase all kinds of glitches. He would appear as the Sephiroth from the Nebilhime (however you spell that) flashback, but you couldn’t alter his equipment, and some times he would ‘possess’ everyone in your party. So you would have 3 Sephiroths in battle. This would also cause the game to freeze at boss most boss fights. But it was fun for a little while.

I think you can still get a free trial of Game Hack online, Check it out.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Is that just a character with the Sephiroth traits, or the actual flashback Sephiroth (eg cannot be harmed)?

Good question, this Sephiroth is virtualy the one from the flash back (you know, you get to fight with him in your party for a little bit). In the stat screen he has the same pic, the same stats, the same name, the same weapons/ accesory, and materia as the flashback.

Honestly I dont know if he cannot be harmed. We only used the hack in the begining of the game where every enemy was easily dispatched before they could attack. Like I said, it would glitch at a lot of boss battles.

before gameshark was reduced to a boot disk, back when it was an external connection, I hacked PS1 games like crazy... I loved changing everyone's names on Ehrgeiz to my friends' names and Changing the descriptions of items in metal gear solid... I never found actual dialogue in stuff like Final Fantasy games, maybe because it is likely encrypted and, like someone said, embeded with function codes... The game that was the MOST infested with function codes in the dialogue was earthbound... If you try to change the dialogue in that one, you can seriously mess the game up...

Fun times... I no longer have any emulators and my PS1 and gameshark is in the posession of my brother, who still hasn't played it yet... Grr...
