strange feeling of sadness and fear

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Sat Sep 25, 2004 9:50 pm

Whenever I look up at the sky, stars or moon at night. I get awfully depressed for some reason. (only when looking up in the sky). Then I get scared of being in space... all alone... and I mean TOTALLY alone. In space, or in the moon. With NOBODY around to talk to. Just imagine that... pretty scary

anyone else like this?

Hmm, no, at least not by looking at the sky. Personally I enjoy looking up at the moon, especially when it's full, and some nights it's so bright you could read by it. The night sky really amazes me (well the occasion blood red moon scares me a bit  )

Okay that was trailing a little off topic, but the thought of being the only one in the universe can be frightening. Sometimes I think of my life as being a rpg video game; I'm the only [human] "player" and everyone else is a "CPU" for you to interact with. That kinda frightens me now that I think about it :stressed: But, I guess my imagination just needs a leash on it

But yeah, loneliness can be awful.

i don't like to feel a lone, so when i start to feel that way i just start singing and i'm all better or i start to talk/pray to God, now that always makes me better. i've always been intriged(spell?) by the sky. it always amazes me that God can do all that he has done.

Sometimes when I start to get that alone feeling, I look for something that will remind me of how I am not alone.

I mentioned in another thread that people make me happy. This is because they remind me that there is more than just me.

When I look up at the night sky, I usually feel inspired rather than alone. It reminds me that the universe is bigger than me, and that there is so much more to discover.

It can be a bit daunting to realize that every person in the world has a mind that is as complex as our own. Although you couldn't possibly know them all, the important thing to remember is that everyone else has a mind of extraordinary complexity (but then how much they use it is another matter :P ).

I don't have any problems being alone (in fact, I prefer it a lot of the time). Of course this can cause some problems, but I think that it is untimately a positive trait. Other people won't always be around, so it is good not to need them every second of the day.

Interesting . . .
When I look into the night sky I tend to feel like its just me and God . . . it can be kina scary cause I feel like He can see all of me more tha normal, like we are face to face, but its also comfortiing at the same time. I feel alone in the spot I am at, but I feel like God is right there more than usual.

I'm also petrified of forever. My stomach is getting all twisted up just talking about it. But I guess it'll just be like a dream, no Time...

Dude.....I'm totally the opposite. I look up at the sky of stars and I see potential. I look at the moon and I feel peace. The night sky just reaffirms the fact that we're not here by some random fluke of chance for me. I don't think of us as being alone in the universe.

But then again I've been a space case since I was little. Wanted to be an astronaut and still do. :P

Stars are horribly scary...the Sun is a SMALL star and Earth is only like one-hundred-thousandth the size of a BIG star. (Is that true?!!!)

I'm also sort of scared of clouds... ESPECIALLY thunderheads.

the grandeur and vastness of space is sublime. Staring into the night sky on a clear night reminds me of God's power and immense rightness. Rather than feeling lonely, I have the blessing of being able to appreciate the incomprehensible greatness of the Divine and the beauty of his works.

When I look up into the night sky I'm too busy looking for UFO's.

However, I know what you are talking about, and I have felt similar feelings before, not from the sky, but simply from lying awake in bed at night. I know I'm not depressed or anything, maybe it's just that I'm so used to moving about I don't like stopping and lying still?

The night sky is so peaceful ... in general being around people takes energy out of me (I have hermit-like tendancies, but I do love being around people), it gives me energy to be alone so when I get the chance to just stare up at the vast emptiness of the night sky it energizes me. When I have a rough day or am in a bad mood staring up at the moon and the stars and laying in the grass or whatever helps me to focus on just being and just being for/with God.

Sometimes I try to make myself feel scared and small when I look up at the sky, but somehow when I'm with people but withdrawn from the activity of the group that makes me feel a lot more like what you described, adrift and lonely and/or insignificant or scared.

Looking up at the sky makes me feel insignificant. Of course, I ALWAYS feel insignificant. - Crow T. Robot

I feel a sense of calmness when I look at the sky. It reminds me that even though God created this whole, (probably) infinite universe, he still cares about me. Me, who is nothing more than a speck of a speck compared to the vastness of it all.

Heart of Sword wrote:I'm also petrified of forever. My stomach is getting all twisted up just talking about it. But I guess it'll just be like a dream, no Time...

To be honest, I'm the same way. Everyone is. As human beings with a finite lifespan, we aren't meant to fully grasp the concept of infinity, as everything on Earth has an end (days, television shows, etc.). So we can't fathom something that has no end.

Heart of Sword wrote:the Sun is a SMALL star and Earth is only like one-hundred-thousandth the size of a BIG star

Actually, the sun is a middle sized star. If the sun were hollow, a million Earths would fit inside. That should give you some idea of how large a large star is. The sun is 93 million miles away, that's why it looks so small. It takes eight minutes for the light of the sun to reach us.

And people say I need a girlfriend...

When I was younger, looking up at the clear, blue sky, (or any sky for that matter) used to freak me out, it felt like I was gonna get sucked up any moment. Actually, I haven't tried it in a long time, I probably would still be freaked out. o_O
