Zelda and Christianity???

Postby Linksquest » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:16 pm

Some people have made connections betweeen The Legend of Zelda story, and the Bible... although, of course, these were not made on purpose... it is very interesting to find the allegories, allusions, and parallels.

Give an example of how you think the two coincide :thumb:

As far as I know, the two don't coincide at all.

I second shooraijin's statement.

The only connection I can think of is that Hyrule and the other worlds were created by the power of a "Trinity" (the concept of which is mirrored in the Triforce). Other than that, I doubt you're going to find much...

But that trinity were 3 individual goddesses, not a single triune God.

Yeah, I...really can't think of anything in Zelda that really pertains to Christianity.

True, but it is a sort of "Trinity" nonetheless, and I find it hard to believe that the concept of the Trinity did not influence the idea to have three goddesses anyway.

I can't say that anything comes to mind, other than the obvious presence of the number three in relation to God. A triangle (as the original Triforce was, not the newer version) does have three seperate points, but it is all one triangle. That could be a similie; taken any further, however (especially pertaining to Ganon) that would become strange very quickly.

But I actually didn't post to say that (which is worthy fairly little). I think we've posted plenty of times that we do not see an immediate correlation. So further posts saying the same thing would not be necessary.

Well, besides the whole Trifore/Trinity thing, I've heard theories that the Legend of Zelda series is similiar to the eternal battle of good and evil.

Of course, you may say "Well that's with every game." What I mean by that is that no matter what title the game is given or what system the game is made for, there is always the character of Link(good) fighting to stop the works of Ganon(evil).

With these games, good always victors over evil (unless you decide not to finish the game :P ). But what makes Christianity different from the Legend of Zelda is that one day the "forever" battle between good and evil will come to an end; evil will be defeated and righteousness will reign victorious for all eternity. You don't have to worry about waiting for the "next release."

Theoretically Ganon dies in A Link to the Past. At the moment that is the furthest along in the series, chronologically, and the only Ganon the series has ever had is finally destroyed.

Wait, I thought Winda Waker was the furthest along in the series...

WW is the furthest along in chronological releases. But it isn't the furthest in terms of storyline.

*scratches head.* Really? I remember hearing The legend of Zelda: The Adventure of Link was the furthest. Because I thought OoA and OoS took place after LttP.

*confused.*

Personally, I put the games into completely different chronologies with almost no Links between them. The first was evidently Ocarina of Time (with Majora's Mask related). At some later point we have the original and then The Adventure of Link; Link's Awakening also factors somewhere into that timeline. I personally hold that A Link to the Past is the furthest chronologically.

However, Oracle of Ages and Season are unknown quantities. I would term them stories about a completely different Link.

OOT and MM are related. 100yrs or so after OOT is WW.

I believe that the Oracles are prequels to Links Awakening. Cause after the Oracles (both of them) Link sails away, alone, on a ship, that looks identical to the Links Awakening ship.

The original Zelda refers to a war against Ganon, it is plausible that this war could be the upcoming Zelda game (you seen the armies of enemies right?)
