If you were an instrument...

Talk about anything in here.

If you were an instrument...

Postby Galant » Fri Sep 17, 2004 4:54 pm

If you were an instrument what would you be and why?

I've actually thought about this a lot - I think I need a new hobby, or a girlfriend or something - anyway I'm pretty sure I'd be a violin. The reason being that it is so versatile. You can play everything from bluegrass to Bach, and it captures well varying moods from romantic to pensive to energetic and even down right silly. They can even come in electric if one feels like rocking out! In addtion, whilst a piano might be able to do all of these things, a violin is far more practical and portable and to me a violin is a far less 'common' instrument than a piano or some other instrument, it retains a distance and mystery.

Now, assuming you all don't get sidetracked psycho-analysing me, or just laughing - what would you be - AND WHY?

Snap out of it, man! A girlfriend?! Are you NUTS?! Best to just stay away from 'em!

What? Oh, sorry...er, to answer your question, I agree with you on the violin thing. I'd want to be a violin too. The violin is one of the most expressive instruments in the world.

Or I'd be a kazoo!

I would be a piano. You can play ANY kind of music (save rap (which isn't music IMO) and techno) on one.

You=COOL! :thumb:

I play the violin and you're right on the money there about it's versatility. Heavy metal to Debussey, if you can think of it then it can be played on the violin. :) Electric or regular. Mine's a regular one. A Franz Werner model. ^_^

I'd pick the guitar. The why is simmilar to the violin.

A violin, or some really cool sounding african instrument. I would want to be something different, elegant, and familiar. Maybe I would be a dijeradoo(sp).

Does a synthesizer count as an instrument? ^_^; I love electronic music. I would either want to be a synthesizer, a keyboard (for the same reason as CT Girl), or a violin (for Galant's reason).

 I've actually thought about this before, and I've come to the conclusion that I would be a piccolo (yes, the instrument, not the DBZ character. >.>; ). I'm a tiny person, and I have a squeaky voice. Some people think I'm annoying, but then I know other who love me to death, apparently.

I think I'd probably be a cello, even though I play the violin. Celli (yes, acceptable plural, just like cellos) are deep, vibrant instruments, and they add a solid framework and rich undertone to pieces. I am deep, vibrant, and I add a solid framework and rich untertone to life; at least, so I've been told. ^_^

That's cool finding an instrument just like you. ^_^

An instrument most like me would probably be...a guitar, I think. My life just reminds me of the sound of a guitar.

I've never thought about this before.... I play the trombone in band and I like it. It's got a nice range that matches my voice pretty well I think, although it sometimes a bit slow, moving your slide around like that  But then, sometimes I'm slow too... like, I'm not a particularly fast runner, and I usually take longer to think about things than most people (in school)

I would be an electric guitar ( even though I play acoustic ). I guess because you can play any kind of music on one. Blues, rock, pop, punk, emo, jazz. You can play anything. So yeah, a guitar.

I am a piano, plainly said.

After playing said instrument for twelve years -- yes, I'm highly musically inclined -- it's something that has grown within me... It is so versitle like my emotions... ranging from brightness to melancholoy with a few minor adjustments. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoy multi-tasking which you need to be good at when playing a piano, e.g. reading both the bass and treble cleff, using your hands to play two different parts and using your feet to change how the notes are held, et cetera. Oh, I can sing with it, too.

Besides, I have the long, slender fingers of a pianist to begin with. ~_^

If I weren't a piano, though, I would be a cello -- alto, sanguine, and slightly melancholy.

I'd say the violin for all the aforementioned reasons and because it's the first instrument I learned to play.

Moogs rule. Have you ever heard the 'Switched on Bach' album?
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I think I would be a bass. Standing not electric.

It larger than most, more versatile some give it credit for. It has a deep voice and its influence is subtle. You may not find yourself following the bass in an orchestra, but you will feel it's prescence, and when it's gone, you know something's lacking

An instrument eh?

I would probably be a metronome…

That’s about all the music I can handle.

*CLICK CLICK, CLICK CLICK, CLICK CLICK*

Well, if the instrument is supposed to be a representation of who I think I am. I would have to be a clarinet. Though I don’t particularly enjoy the clarinet, it seams to fit my personality fairly well. Never really a main part, not loud, not high pitched nothing spectacular. Just smooth, cool, friendly and soothing. :thumb:
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I would be an electric guitar because, like me, they are so cool!

No, I'd prolly be a bass guitar. Why? I dunno, I just like the low sound of it--well, and my dad plays it.

As much as I dislike it...I used to like playing it...If I were an instrument, I would be the piano. I love pressing the keys quickly and precisely to bring forth muuuuuusic...I like playing fast, flowing songs....

But...I don't know exactly why I'd be a piano...I just think so cuz I like it better than any other instruments..^^u

I love the explanations of those who like the cello. This is by far the most beautiful sounding instrument to me. It's very mellow and it's not too low, yet it is not a high pitched instrument. It is like me, and alto. I play guitar, but feel more at one with the beautiful cello. When it cries, it is a somber and serious sadness, when it is happy, it is not overbearing - it just is.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
