Tried to watch a Quicktime movie, but cant because the 'right compressor couldn't'...

I tried to watch a movie on Quicktime of this guy playing Halo, but it wouldn't play because 'the right compressor couldn't be found'. What does that mean?

What version of QuickTime? What's the filename extension? Mac or Windows?

chances are that you don't have the right codec. Download divx at http://www.divx.com

get the free one, the run spybot/adaware cause it has spyware. But i still encourage you to download it cause of it's awesome codec

you might need a different codec than DivX. GSpot is the name of a free utility that will tell you what codecs a movie file requires to play. google it

Divx is a codec on "audio video interlaced" aka "avi" files only which are native to windows. Quicktime is entirely different, and native to Mac... Divx is only one of like 30 types of avi codecs, plus there's like 10-20 quicktime codecs out there too. I think the most common one is called "sorenson" Maybe apple has the codec you need. http://www.apple.com

There's a QT plugin for DivX now, which I'm using and appears to work. However, it would be nice if the original poster would give us a little more to work with ^^

Ok... Um... He said he was trying to watch on quicktime, it wasn't working... Neither getting a divx codec for quicktime nor getting a quicktime plugin for divx would matter, as he is using a quicktime file and the plugin would only work with the quicktime codecs he has... So, yeah, we do need more info, but this would have nothing to do with divx...
