Has Griff Sealed Her Fate?

Postby Golden_Griff » Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:20 am

I was just talking with my friends about me and my talents. The question came up over what I was going to do when I'm out of school. Not that I was so serious about it but my response was "I might be working in Walmart for all I know." Then my friends got on me for saying that, talking about "don't say that!" or "don't you dare throw your talent away!"

Then me and my roommate decided to talk more about the issue. She told me that I shouldn't speak over my life like that because "what we say as Christians have an affect on us" and if I keep saying I'll end up doing one thing it'll happen.

Well, I said that I regretted saying that I might end up a Walmart employee and so she had me saying some words like "I renounce what I have spoken over my life that is against God's will and I now speak the things over my life that is in God's will" or something like that.

But now that we've talked about it I really feel bad about ever saying what I said. I really don't want to end up at Walmart; I only said that because I feel like I'm not one of those people to really get that job working in an animation studio or in the video gaming industry. And this isn't the first time that I've said something like that, actually I've said it many times before.

My friend says that if I ask for forgiveness (I guess for cancelling out what God has planned for me) God will forgive me but I don't know. Have I sealed my fate with my words? :( :bang: :sniffle: :waah!:

I don't think you have at all. Whatever God's will for your life is, if you're willing to do it, He'll see that it's accomplished. Words are just words. How can whatever we say change God's mind when He sees the entire picture of whatever He wants for you?

I'll pray that you get peace about this. ^_^

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

I agree with exactly what Spirit Wolf said in her above post. Furthermore, I will pray for you as well. *hugs* So please, don't be discouraged! Have faith and it will turn out all right.

Side note: isn't it a tad silly to believe in jinxing? Of course, this is coming from someone who used to believe in the theatre superstitions, so I'll just shut mah yap now. ~_^

Hey, Griff, as the Bible says in Proverbs 6:2--"You are snared by the words of your mouth...."

But wait! Even though you may have said that you'd end up at Wal-Mart, it sounds like you have changed your confession. If you've already countered it then you don't have anything to worry about. You can have what you say. :)
And all things work together for good for those who love the Lord...I can't remember where that one's located, but it's in the Bible I know.

Whatever kind of job you want, just ask God for it and believe Him and He'll help you out
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

Here ya go Griff.....

*Puts bandage over forehead*
Hope that makes you feel better as well, and don't go beating yourself up too much.

I also don't believe in jynxing, but if things are really bothering you that much, just pray that the Lord's will be done in your life. If there is anyone who knows what's best for you, it's Him right? He will more then guide you in the path that you choose, as long as you strive to please Him, and give glory to Him, He'll always be watching over you. It might feel like your blindly walking into the future that is your life, but thats why we have faith, faith can move mountains and any other obsticle that will keep you from achiveng His plan for you.

Hope this helps some,
God Bless,
Archan

And what if God's plan for you does land you at Wall Market (haven't called it Walmart since FFVII). Will you not be able to serve God and others there as well? Even a life spent doing menial tasks is not a life wasted if you are serving the Lord.

I pray God has many more wonderful things in store for you, but justbe willing to go where He leads even if it doesn't sem to make sense at the time - like a time spent working for Wall Market.

I don't think that your fate is sealed-besides, as long as you live there is always hope with God. My roommate from last year took that stuff very seriously. I think that from a human view (sorry, don't know enough to do theological) if you really believe that you will end up working at Wal-Mart, then you will live you life in such a way that that happen, thus disregarding the Spirit's leading in your life and throwing your life away. When we say something often enough, we can start to believe it. Th Bible is among other things a very practical book, which is perhaps why Proverbs 6:2 is in it (as I read it from Ssjjvash's post).

It sounds like you said you "might" end up working there, which is better than saying that you will unless you absolutely know you will. Was it as an example of not knowing what you will end up doing or somthing you honestly would think you might eventually do? God has great things in mind for each of us so feel free to wonder about other great things and never settle until you know it's right. Trust God, don't settle and aim high in life, but then maybe you know that if your worried about ending up at Wal-Mart. I don't think you have sealed your fate to Wal-Mart.

I have studied psychology a little bit, and I can say that it is a proven fact that whatever we BELIEVE, we ARE. Put simply, you have to believe that you are something in life and are destined for great things. If you say you're never going to amount to nothing, you are programming your mind for failure.

If you haven't yet figured out what to do with your life, then fine. It will come to you someday. Then, once you have a goal, all you have to do is believe that you have the skills and abilities to conquer that goal. And don't give up.

Others have already covered this well, GG, so I'll just reiterate that God is sovereign, and has His plan for your life set out. Just trust in Him.

I will pray that God grants you peace of heart and mind.

James 4
13Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

you just have to trust that God knows what He is doing

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been able to respond sooner. But I do appreciate your prayers and encouragement. Yes, I do agree that if we say something about ourselves enough we will begin to believe it to be true. Which is what I tend to struggle with from time to time.

Although I am no longer worried by what I said, I still wonder over what path my life will take. But I guess the way to take care of that is to trust God.

And like what termyte and Volt mentioned, even if I do end up in a job that's not exactly my "dream job" I can still serve and bring glory to God in whatever I do.

Thanks again,
~G_G
