I need college and career guidance

Postby Saint Kevin » Sun Aug 22, 2004 2:59 am

Well folks, it's that time again. That's right, school's back in session.

I'll cut to the chase. I need prayer to know what to do with my last two years in college, and also, where to go and what to do after college.

I'm majoring in Chemistry right now. Why? It was easy in high school, and I maybe thought I wanted to be an MD, so it seemed like a logical choice. Now, I'm not so sure what I want to do, honestly I don't think I was ever sure.

Well, I'm considering adding a major - Spanish. What I'll do with that I don't know, but I do realize that I'm not far from making those 6 years of Spanish I took really useful, so it seems like a good thing to try for.

Also, school aside, I don't really know what I want to do, or, more importantly, what GOD wants me to do.

Some careers I've considered, in no particular order: MD, Chemist, Pilot, Teacher, Pastor, Missionary, Various military careers (Intelligence, Translator, Medical, Officer) and a couple others. I just need some guidance, some specific guidance from the Lord on this.

What I said to someone on the issue was this, that I HAD received an answer from the Lord to my prayers, some guidance if you will. Promptings from the Holy Spirit on small things, like, for example, God wanting me to read my bible everyday (note this isn't true for everyone, but in my case I'm almost sure God wants me to do this), among other changes in my life God wants me to make. I feel that until I take these small steps of faith, God won't give me more to take, and so, I'm asking you all to pray for my strengthing, that I will yield to God and do His will, even in the small things. Also, pray that God would give me some specific guidance on what he wants me to do with my life. If there is one thing I've learned, it's the value of prayer. Thanks in advance for your fervent and sincere prayer.

Your brother in Christ,
Kevin.

I will pray as well. If you would like to talk about military careers, PM me.

I didn't know what I was going to study until my third year in college - it made thast two years very difficult (I had only high level computer sciences classes left to take and I took way to many of them in each semester, but I digress), so I know a little bit of what you are feeling. May the Lord bless you and guide you in the road that you take.

I'll pray for you as well. Obviously, if becoming an MD is still something of a consideration, I can offer you some thoughts. Myself, I was a linguist in college, and then a database administrator, and now I'm an MD, and already I'm thinking about picking up my master's in Linguistics and considering Bible translation, so I definitely empathize with many interests ^^;;

I shall undertake this task of prayer for you as well, Saint Kevin. However, I ask that you do the same for me, for I am experiencing the same circumstance... except that I am not as far along as you are. I simply, absolutely must know what I am to do with the days I am given.
